Thames Water Works in Melbourne Grove
Dr De Soto replied to rch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
thanks Robin, really appreciate this update. -
Sorry to miss you all. Next week full on, but hope to get together the week after that--Monday to Wednesdays are best for me.

Hi, weather forecast tomorrow is pretty dire--we could decamp from the Horniman playground to the museum if it is raining. Notesink, VerySeriousGirl and JBoleyn are you all still free about 1 (or 2 in your case VSG)? How's the venue sound?
-
How about the playground across from the Horniman?
-
I have used Daisylets, they are very good.

Hi, onefifty, how's Wednesday 26th, 1pmish? Anyone else free then?

Hi, I'd love to meet up. Three days a week during school hours, it'd be my 2, almost 3, year old daughter and me; otherwise it'd be my 9 year old girl and 6 year old boy as well. Weekends are trickier given juggling everyone's schedule. Maybe we could do one of the days you work from home, twinsmom, and see who else can meet up then too. Does a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday work for anyone?

Sorry, have moved this thread to Lost/Found.

Aha, this will explain why my computer cut out twice today, I was fearing it was overheating or something. Thank you EDF for saving me having to call the IT guys tomorrow.

It's galling that a restaurant that so consistently gets bad reviews has stayed in business for so long. I can only assume that they coin it from their wedding business, and that there's a regular supply of guests nostalgically returning to "that lovely place where we went to the wedding" (only to be disappointed and never go back again).

Lordship Lane still shut in the stretch between Mr Liu and Colwell Road, traffic being diverted while they deal with gas leak. Porsche was still up on the kerb when I last looked.

GCSE maths giving any parents grief?
Dr De Soto replied to Katy Tonbridge's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm almost tempted to say that you're lucky to have a teenager that is prepared to let you help them. What gives me grief is when I see maths becoming a matter of blindly learning a set of rules without any understanding of what they mean. It seems to happen a lot in trigonometry. -
I fully endorse this, shovel away any loose snow or slush before it turns to an ice rink.

Just saw a group of four goldfinches in the gardens between Colwell Rd and Lordship Lane. Also saw a great tit. Normally the only birds we see here are blackbirds and the occasional robin (and pigeons of course).

It's been nicknamed locally "Hedwig House" because of its resemblance to an owl. That's how I'll refer to it from now on.

Green and Blue. I'm told the left hand half as viewed from the street was Redgewells, and before that an Italian. The right half, added to G&B when they expanded, was an empty shop for years. The Jewellers shop was elsewhere (it was a strange dark shop, behind mesh, had to press a button to enter).

Weather issues in East Dulwich - Schools, Transport...
Dr De Soto replied to Mark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

According to the Southwark website, if a school doesn't appear on their list then it will be open. However nothing is guaranteed in the current conditions. -
Weather issues in East Dulwich - Schools, Transport...

Eddie M Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yes - Heber definitely having to close today. > Parents being notified via new text service. Blimey, how is it that Goodrich is able to be open and not Heber. And when will Heber finally get itself a simple website. It's not rocket science! -
Is ED about to experience another property boom?
Dr De Soto replied to Emily's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
dc Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > But prices rose in Dulwich during the last > recession and flatlined in ED. DC I don't know what part of Dulwich you are talking about, but most people I know saw prices drop 30% or more during the early 90s recession, across East Dulwich and Dulwich. I remember a friend buying a house for ?100k that had originally been listed at ?135k, and that was fairly typical. -
Heber primary school memories
Dr De Soto replied to jim_the_chin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Regarding the porters house - there are plans. I think some development can be expected there in the next year or so. -
How Much.. (have property proces really dropped in East D?)
Dr De Soto replied to AG's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Three houses up the road were on the market early last year for between ?599k and ?625k. One eventually sold for ?525k, one sold for ?450k and one is now on the market for about ?450k so will presumably get less. So there is some evidence that homes are getting about 25% less than was being asked at the top of the market. The absolute peak in the market came around September 2007, when another house in the road went on the market for a speculative ?720k. It didn't sell. It probably wouldn't get much more than ?530k today. -
Thanks Eddie M. This episode confirms that Heber needs a blog or a simple website so that it can announce news like this in an orderly and timely way without relying on word of mouth. It will also combat unhelpful rumours (see the Family section).

We're not far from a full moon at the moment, and in between heavy snow showers the sky was clear for a while last night. That might have something to do with it.

Harris Academy for boys on Peckham Rye approved
Dr De Soto replied to Dr De Soto's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
> A > councillor I spoke to a few months ago (who would > not remain nameless if I could remember his name) > told me that Peckham Rye would be up for > discussion for use as a sports' ground for the > school. Are assurances that the council will not > permit this rock solid? At the emotional council meeting where the go-ahead was decided, there seemed to be no question that the Rye would be used by the school (because it would require change of use of a public park, and the local objections would be insurmountable). However, come 3.30pm or whenever school is out, there will surely be nothing to stop groups of lads going over the road to play impromptu games of football in the park. Just a pity they can't do that at lunchtime in their own grounds, too. -
Heber Road closed down at lunchtime because of a power cut - same thing presumably.
