  1. was it bellenden road or an adjoining road? we had two men wanting to go through our house to remove our neighbours back scaffoldilng- neighbours were at work and the guys didnt have their number. Our Neighbours do have back scaffolding but these two were well dodgy.
  2. did we get an answer on when the bin men will come after the strike? we are awash with rubbish and kitchen waste.
  3. actually I certainly agree with New Mother re things like credit cards. If you find them, hand them straight in to bank or police. You can always put a note on the forum that you have done so.
  4. if you ever use boarding kennels the jabs have to be up to date with paper proof of it.
  5. despicable. Will keep an eye out for her on our walks.
  6. what about those interwar flats opposite side of the bookshop but a bit further towards ed...arent they called dekker something?
  7. Ive had blue one removed and have two boxes and a bag for paper. Still awaiting slim green bin. But it looks much better.
  8. really? this could be so as I was away that middle week so didnt see collection.....but now rubbish and kitchen on two different days of same week? it is very confusing.
  9. This week our rubbish and our kitchen waste was collected but not our bottles, cans or paper. So now it's well over two weeks since the last collection. Is there a strike?
  10. That week did encompass half term for some schools- including some state schools, one of which takes two weeks for autumn half term.
  11. but what did it mean? was tom going to kill him?
  12. Had a woman caller re loft insulation. She said she was from the government. Having read this thread I suggested she was actually from a company. I told her we had just had it done with our loft conversion and she asked specific dates. I was actually on my way out and she was very pushy. She was more or less suggesting it was compulsory for me to give her the information. When I again suggested she didnt actually 'come from the governemnt' she got quite argumentative.
  13. Our loft conversion gave us a fourth bedroom and extra bathroom- with bath! It is a proper square shaped room with the eaves being used for cupboards and generous bathrooom. we also have undereaves storage and storage under the new staircase. I really wanted a proper integrated bedroom that looked like it had always been there rather than a tacked on extra bedroom so we lost a little bit of our front bedroom so that the stairs could do a proper sweep without being too steep. It's the nicest room in the house, with balcony type doors and railing and is our bedroom full of light. We lived in our house for ten years before doing it. It has changed our living space dramatically and we now have loads more room. The only drawback is it makes the rest of our house look shabby.
  14. we didn't get our recycling collected yesterday! that's over two weeks. anyone else?
  15. there's a first time for everything.
  16. there's not really 14 hours missing. There's Solecito panicking when police tell him the y can prove Knox was in apartment (they couldnt)during the night and he admits that if he was asleep she could have left. They were stoned they were bonking, they were probably doing mushrooms too, they couldnt specify every moment. phones turned off, big deal, or battery run out? or just turned off.
  17. no, it was a very hard crossword but luckily I had two days to do it.
  18. the interview with Knox (40 hours)in which she pointed finger at innocent man was not filmed or recorded in any way, so really we only have police word or her word. But she says that Patrick person was suggested to her - at that time the police did think it might be him. So yes she accused an innocent man, but she didnt pluck his name from thin air and she did so after 40 hours of questioning without lawyer, translator or appropriate adult- presumably to get out of there. And she RETRACTED it immediately the next morning. He was kept in jail for two weeks till he provided an alabi, but that was because the police suspected him, not because it took her that long to retract her accusation. As mature adults we know that 'the truth' should be enough and that that is all we are required to tell- we are not required to explain inconsistencies or offer up alternative explanations or solve the crime. As adults we can probably stand up for ourselves and say this. I don't know if I could have done that at the age of 20. The police were wrong to ask her to do so, 'explain this' then or 'explain that' and she was stupid to try and explain those anomolies. the carwheels? well they weren't for anyone else so I imagine they were picked up by cctv. The police and media projected them as celebratory images. But under huge stress and anxiety, in private or with one person, we may choose to pass the time in extraordinary ways. I did the cross word int he middle of giving birth. Does that make me cold or disinterested in givng birth? It was a way of passing some excruciating time.
  19. It was very windy last night- coult there be a connection if it is still quite a young tree?
  20. No evidence against her. They had the perpetrator- a career burglar who knew them vaguely and who'd already been apprehended with a knife on other premises and who's dna was found in the room,on and in the victim but who then pointed the finger at Knox and got his sentence reduced by half- who is serving 16 years. But the prosecutor had already fixated on his pet theory- satanic rituals, which he had already tried to impose on a previous unrelated case- and so he merged the two theories together. For a close comparison, see Colin Stagg, who was aquitted on a technicality and then completely exonerated when the real perp who had committed a copycat crime had his dna tested. The police convinced Rachel Nickels parents that Stagg was the man and had walked on a technicality. Like the Kerchers, the Nickells were disappointed and broken. Staggs relief at getting off was seen as 'gloating' and 'not respecting the real victim' and daily mail readers were outraged that he may profit from his story. But just as Private Eye had suggested years before, a mentally ill man who went on to kill a mother in exactly the same way Rachel had been killed, but this time killed her child too, at last had his dna tested and was found to be the killer of Rachel Nickell. If this hadnt happened Colin Stagg would have always been seen as 'the one who got away'. Every protestation of innocence was seen as signs of guilt. Also Cleveland non existent child abuse scandal when children were taken from their parents on the magical thinking of a social worker who beleived in satanic ritual abuse and then interpreted everything accordingly- even to the point that a child describing the ring in a circus visited was seen as 'disclosing' a witches circle. A lot of the 'evidence' against Knox circulating on the internet is from the movie made after the first trial, which included scenes which never happened in real life. Why did she lie in the police station? stoned, scared and being led by the police to 'imagine what might have happened if she had been there' all in italian and without a lawyer. She immediately retracted, but it was on paper for all to see. I have read some of the prosecutions proposals that the fact the break in looked like the modus operandus of Rudi Guid, the man who is serving 16 years already, showed it was staged as why would he be so obvious? well, if that was his modus operandi, that was his modus operandi. A British police investigation would have worked from the premise that what a burglar normally does , he continues to do. The Lindy Chamberlain dingo baby comparisons are also apt. THere is no doubt that Amanda Knox was immature, attention seeking and wanted everyone to think she was cute, also thick skinned, with little idea how her dippsy behaviour appeared. But being vain and self obsessed does not make you a killer, specially when there are no bloody clothes, no laundry, no murder weapon. Lets hope for Knoxs sake they find that dingo.
  21. This morning, before 7am, four pints taken from our doorstep in Nutbrook Street. Anyone else?
  22. Rosie I did tell her off for doing that and in no way condoned her-and I had to calm her down-she had become hysterical because it was the fourth time a friend had been ticketed in her road when they had bought a voucher. Each time some extraordinary event had rendered it invalid and she was therefore very paranoid. Unfortunately Lambeth has a history of dastardly deeds. On my letter today it said it was facedown- so i have to take their word for it. But the warden himself said that it was my voucher and it was on the seat- at the time- so he must have had some means of recognising it and I thought when he pointed it out that it was face up, but there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then and I honestly can't say which way it was.
  23. ah but the ticket landed face down! But as supporting evidence I was able to send them a meteogical link to a high wind warning posted that very day - it was Hurricane Katia day- and the winds were very high. It was a freak occurance with wind displacing voucher from windscreen. And they knew I would go to court too. The displacement of the voucher was an act of nature we could not forsee. Am I expected, having parked my car and paid for the voucher, and correctly displayed it, to return to the car every five minutes to inspect whether such an occurance has in fact occurred? Is the fine for not paying/trying to cheat Lambeth or is the fine for failing to display even when you started off displaying?
  24. Victory! Thank you for all your advice - I used most of it in my appeal letter and WON! The ticket has been waived! Well done East Dulwich Forum! The faceless beauracracy of Lambeth parking could not withstand your logic!
