1st Birthday present ideas
philiphenslowe replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Family Room Discussion
`My son got a Wheelybug & a rocking caterpillar - http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-wheelybug-ladybird/8501f3000/type-i/ http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-rocking-animal-babyplay-charlie-caterpillar/644982700/type-i/ Both take up a bit of space, but he loves them + they actually look really nice so I don't mind having them out in the sitting room all the time. Small presents for Christmas though I think! -
Can anyone suggest a nice egg-free cake recipe for my son's birthday? Or anywhere I can buy a ready made one. He has a 'suspected' egg allergy + we're currently waiting for the results of an allergy test so don't want to take any risks. Thanks

I've lost an underwire in my washing machine + it's started making holes in all my clothes. I've tried to find it sticking out of one of the holes in the drum, but I can't find it. Is there anything else I do? Or can anybody suggest somebody who can have a look at it who won't cost an arm & a leg (on maternity leave at the mo). Thanks

Moving to Maidenhead/High Wycombe
philiphenslowe replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for all the replies - we went to both places to look round and although I wasn't taken with either plac, it looks like we'll be renting in Maidenhead for the first year until we get to know the area. I've also realised that I really do need to learn how to drive (I last attempted that 18 years ago!). Thanks again -
Moving to Maidenhead/High Wycombe
philiphenslowe replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I should have said we'll be renting for a year initially, as we don't want to commit to buying in a particular area before we've done a lot more research on schools etc. -
My husband has been offered a job in Maidenhead + it looks like we'll be moving West in the summer. I don't know these areas at all + was hoping somebody could advise me. I'll still be working in Covent Garden 4 days a week + I don't drive so I'll need to be within 1 mile of a train station. I have a 6 month old boy + I'll be at home on Mondays + Fridays. We're going to look at a few areas soon but until then I'm frantically googling. Is there more to do in High Wycombe than Maidenhead? I've lived in London all my life, except for university, and I'm so used to the freedom I have here - I'm dreading being stuck somewhere with an hourly bus service which won't let me board with my pushchair. Are there any other ares we should consider within a fairly short drive of Maidenhead + on a direct train line to London? Thanks x

Baby passport - maiden name on my passport
philiphenslowe replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for all the advice - really helpful x -
I'm in the process of applying for a passport for my 5 month old son, but I've realised my passport is still in my maiden name + my married name is on his birth certificate. I've tried calling the passport line (no answer) + the Post Office staff in FH all had a different opinion. Does anybody know what name I need to put for myself on the form - maiden name as it appears on my passport or married name as on birth certificate? I've tried looking on mumsnet etc (I'm guessing this is a fairly common problem), but again information was conflicting. I'm going to send my marriage certificate off anyway because this has both names on it. Thanks x

Borough Market with baby?
philiphenslowe replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for all the suggestions - I fed + changed him in Clink Street Starbucks, then later in the Old Thameside Inn. Much easier than I'd first imagined x -
Borough Market with baby?
philiphenslowe replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Amazing - thank you -
I'm hoping to go Borough Market with my 8 week old baby tomorrow (in a sling of course), but I'm a bit worried about finding somewhere to change + feed him. I usually stick to places where I can rely on baby-friendly facilities. Any suggestions? Thanks x

Catarrh/chest infection during pregnancy
philiphenslowe replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for all your advice. I went to see a doctor, but it turned out to be a viral infection so I can't take anything anyway. Lots of honey, lemon + fresh ginger for me. After 5 days it seems to be getting a little bit better though. Thanks again. -
Catarrh/chest infection during pregnancy
philiphenslowe posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can anybody advise if I can take anything for catarrh or a possible chest infection while I'm pregnant (20 weeks)? I'm currently waiting for NHS Direct to call me back with some advice. I went to the pharmacy in Boots yesterday + got some catarrh pastilles, but it's got much worse + now I have a really hard cough + a temperature. Is it worth trying to get an emergency doctors appointment before the weekend or will they just tell me they can't prescribe anything? Thanks x -
Reading Festival for teens
philiphenslowe replied to womanofdulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went to Reading every year from 16-25 + I'm sure it will be fine. Loads of teenagers go, especially now it's viewed as a post-GCSE celebration. It's definitely aimed towards a younger crowd than a lot of the other festivals. -
