  1. Have a 'gander' at this. Nero
  2. I am anti it. Not really against gambling, just would prefer to see something more of use to more people. Think there are enough bookies' yards. Not classist. Nero
  3. Does anyone have an old phone that's been configured to work wiht the three network, preferably a Nokia? I dropped my old one, am using another, but I can't receive messages as ig was previously used with 02. Nero
  4. Why not go up Donkey Alley (which is not a euphemism) and watch the fireworks from the top of the hill there? That's what we plan to do. Nero
  5. Fourthed! Nero
  6. I would definitely try the man on Forest Hill Road, just past the Coop. He is very good. He might not be open though. Nero
  7. Bald, I entirely agree. Franklins is good but it is too expensive, by about 15%, and that's because the other places in and around LL are not in the same league, apart from Palmerston's, but that's a posh pub. If there were a good bistro, ie. if Le Moulin were more like Franklins (I am not calling for it to change, Moulin fans, just asking you to make believe for a while), then the competition might get Franklins to shape up. And the village is awful for food, and I wish that would change. Bloody Pizza Express, Le Piaf and Cafe Rouge are not what I would like to see. I could put up wth two of them, but to have three chain-like restos in such a small and well-off place is awful. So, budding restaurant entrepreneurs, if you are reading this, or if you know anyone who's thinking of setting up a decent bistro, then point them in this direction to read this support. Nero

    Unwell

Spadetownboy, You need salts at the very least to be replaced, and bananas and flat cola can do that, though a rehydration salt is better. Also, you need fuel, so anything bland like banana, a cracker, dry toast, a bit of rice all help, but I agree, you often feel like it will make you worse. Don't underestimate the effect it can have on you if you have been spewing and squitting for some time. Don't go and tire out your body by trying to get back on the merry go round too quickly. Nero
  9. That's alright. Don't worry. It's not so bad. There are even journalists and solicitors on this site. Nero
  10. Just one - an occasional treat?

    Unwell

Bananas, yoghurt, fluid (water) and dry toast. Once you feel better, try a clear soup, or chicken broth. Avoid alcohol and anything oily. Nero
  12. Waitron is a real word. They say it a bit in America. Never quite worked out whether it is derog or not, but I don't think it is. Nero
  13. Tipping binmen and the like is ok. I would much prefer to tip those blokes than some ditzy, language-challenged waitron. The binmen are not 'useless' just because they miss a collection. At least with nurses, doctors, firemen etc, we sometimes get the chance to say 'thankyou' and they know that, on the whole, society is on their side. Nero
  14. BBC iplayer launches n Xmas Day, so it might be there. Nero
  15. I think eating chicken and turkey and pork etc that is bog standard is not a good thing. I don't like the idea of animals suffering, of beating treated like they're already dead. I'll pay the extra for organic and free range. I am not against the idea of animals being used as food, but am against their abuse for that purpose. Nero
  16. I'm pleased that the shop isn't empty and hope it doesn't fail, but I am surprised that there should be another place that sells booze. Are we really that dipsomaniacal in SE22 that Threshers, Nicolas, G and B, the supermarkets, the bars, the pubs and the other offies and convenience shops are not enough? It makes me feel a bit queasy just thinking of all that alcohol! (And yes, I would like a noodle shop, preferably Japanese and not wagamama. Does Shu not feel like picking up the apron on that one?) Nero
  17. Cookwank is fantastic and I too smile to myself when I go past that shop and others like it. Nero
  18. I'm off to Harbin in China where it will be about -15C in the day and even colder at night. I've been before and was only a kid and was not properly kitted out, so froze! So, not being a skier or climber, I wanted to know what type to stuff to wear. Can ED climbers and skiers who are used to really cold temps let me know what I should take? I've already thought about leggings, but what about socks - how many pairs etc? (I'm only going to be in Harbin for three days so don't want to spalsh out on loads of expensive kit. Can you hire it?) Either post here or PM me please. Nero
  19. Tottenham Court Road is TCR chez Nero. I know it is not about ED, but I encourage you to try it out and see whether your friends like it. Or not. Nero
  20. It's a good place to eat and have an aperitif, but I really don't like their chain-cafe chairs and tables outside (which I've already gone on about on here!) Nero
  21. You know, Maurice, I agree with some of what you say. I think that we spend too much of our time thinking about content (ie shops, restaurants, cafes) and not enough about form (architecture, roads, trees, street furniture etc). LL is a bit grubby, really, in parts. The flats above the shops are not always pretty, paving stones are sometimes broken, there's a lack of greenery, especially from Budgens down to Goose Green, which is the most used section. Further up, the houses past the (horrid) police station, some of which are divided into flats, are past their prime. Interested to know whether others agree with this reality check? Nero

    Tights?

Hilarious! When I was growing up, we had a man called the 'coffee man' who would bring my nana lots of Nescafe from dodgy provenance. One day, nana had knickers (bloomers) blowing on the line when the coffee man came. After he'd gone she noticed that clothes pegs had been attached to the crotch areas of all her undies, which she found hilarious. Ah, childhood memories.....Nero
  23. Ah, I see. I like hot weather, though, but not in Britain. Death Valley was great. Nero
  24. It's not opening in Bellenden any more. See the other thread on Viet cafe. Nero
  25. Azul, where are you talking about? Nero
