  1. Not very specific this, but my neighbour and pal told me she saw a man she recognised in the Uplands a while back. She couldn't place him but then got talking to him and he told her he was an actor and had been in Troy with Brad Pitt. Don't know his name, but he lives on CP Road. Nero
  2. I am v far removed from SE22. I'm in SK3 ,in fact. Time on my hands and a computer in front of them, so here I am. Is anyone else not at home this holiday weekend? Or I am v sad logging in to EDF while oop north? Nero

    Happy Easter!

Buona pasqua! I'm off oop north and thence to Wales. Enjoy yourselves! Nero
  4. I HAVE SEEN THIS LADY! She truly exists and is not a collective Gothic Baby Jane fantasy of certain E Dulwich types. She is straight out of central casting. I've already written about how I imagine her shuffling out of her lair down to the idiosyncratic French restaurant near the Plough for a vin rouge and a Gitane of a night. She and her place have fascinated me for a long time. Nero
  5. Chener books - good place, could do with a mini-spruce up, staff ok. Collective nouns - a smuck of jellyfish. Impress your friends with this one. Nero
  6. There's a new barber's on F Hill Rd, past the post office. It's owned by a man in his 30s, and I have had good haircuts for a tenner, including tip. Better, in my opinion, than the place on N Cross Rd. It's well worth a shot. Nero (but more like grigio these days.)
  7. The man behind Jacks (sic) cafe said he might go in for the lease of the PRP cafe. Think this would be good. Nero
  8. STOP PRESS Just seen a couple of wardens driving up G'rich Rd near the school, eyes a-peeled for parking violators. This part of E Dulwich is sleepy and law-abiding, I'll have them know! Harumph! Nero
  9. Evenin' all. I walked down Landells earlier today and those blue gates were wide open. I had a peek at the eco houses and saw nobbut two wooden-clad boxes, sans windows, sans doors. Maybe I didn't go far enough down the alley to get a proper gander, but they looked a bit rum to me. Still, the wood was nice to look at. Nero
  10. Coriander is one of my faves, too. Tried Chandri at W Dulwich station on Saturday and was v impressed. Cheaper than most and decent decor, good service and Bangla beer - that's a new one on me! BTW it is always empty on Sunday nights, which always makes me wonder why it stays open on the week's most non-curry-eating night. (Unless of course you know better!) Nero
  11. You made me think of the word 'denier'. Great word! Nero
  12. The best was the Lebanese one. And biodynamic is the new organic, or so Kate says.
  13. I think the G and B woman has a future in broadcasting if she wants it. It was a great night. She was so well informed and it was good to put names to faces. Black Cherry good too. Nero
  14. The bloke at the Drum was also v nice to me last night, pre Green and Blue. I wanted a sarny, but the cook was already gone, so he gave me crisps and then he gave me some lovely nachos with a lovely home made salsa. Lovely! Nero
  15. Hello, What bit of the G are you referring to? I must have missed it. Nero
  16. The Drum is indeed a good place. Nice sarnies and good prices. But it is too smoky at times. Nero
  17. "ED went right down hill in my opinion when Nero arrived." ?! Nero :-)
  18. I missed it too, as I was oop north. Shall make it to the Green and Blue do, though. Nero
  19. 020 7525 2000 to request a clean and also 'bag it and bin it' signs for the pavement.
  20. I reported graffiti to the wardens and within a few days it was gone. Pretty impressed. They're on 020 7525 0051. And they manage to pull off that red and black Athena bedroom look too! Nero
  21. The crap-strewn E Dulwich station is my bane too. If I get a name and address to write to and put it here, would you all write a letter telling the train company to sort it out? There are bleached-out cans of Fresca and Tab, I swear! Nero
  22. It is far from a cure, but one way of at least doing something is to not tolerate graffiti, tagging, and other forms of ugliness on the streets. The council will remove old cars, graffiti, dumped rubbish etc if you tell them. Give Southwark its dues in this case as it is really good at dealing with enviro-crime IF they know about it. 020 7525 2000. Some might not see a connection between a piece of graffiti and gangs, but the link is there. Not only does tagging etc give a sense of lawlessness, encouraging crims to take root and discouraging law-abiding types, but it also suggests that any one area 'belongs' to the tagger. Turf wars start like that. Pick up rubbish, report fly tipping, tell your neighbours about the council hotline, tell the councillors you are happy/upset. Do SOMETHING! Nero
  23. I really do not like that bit of Upland Road across from Barry Road. It is so grubby and ugly, with shabby shop-fronts and grafitti on the walls and garage doors. It looks like something out of the 70s. Best bit is the library. Nero
  24. Dunno. But they will be covered by the Mail order protection scheme - Mops - so I reckon even if they do not work you will be covered. I would get one if I had a fire. Cd get ur or friends' kids to make them.
  25. Why not get a briquette maker for ?15 and recycle your paper?
