    Sloe News Day

I collected sloes from Lincolnshire last October, froze them for a few weeks, then pricked them (although this is not always necessary if you freeze them) and added them to gin and sugar, waited, and the result was great.
  2. I agree that the line from PR to Dalston wd be a good way to go. You'd obv have to change somewhere, but it does seem like a good way to make a few ???. Are there rules regarding taxes etc?

Is it possible that the person whose pix, wall, whatever you are looking at knows you are doing so? I've read it is not possible, but I wonder why I get people I don't (want to) know appearing under the banner 'people you might know'.

    Factoids

There is no rhyme for the word 'month'.

    A story

..not forgetting to add comments about the murderously loud and cock-crowingly early railway line screeches that had unfortunately begun once more, now that the nice station manager had been demoted to trainee departures-board input operative at the hands of his evil (and desperately unimaginative) bosses.
  6. There's a series of them - Fela Kuti, Manu Chao, K'Naan, and eight other names that are probably bigger overseas than here. Listen or not listen - the choice is yours!
  7. "I wrote 'Talkin' Bout a Revolution' when I was 16 years old " - Tracy Chapman on @bbcnewshour http://bbc.in/atzEFh It's part of an eleven-part series called 'Striking a Chord', about songs that have had great success within a particular country or demographic.
  8. My pal Andre - not of this parish, he wsa just passing through - says he was cruised by Kate Thornton in the Tesco near to the (supposed/mythical) Dulwich Baths on Thursday.
  9. Saw some - to me, at least - unusual snails on the top of a concrete gate post on Friern Road. They were smaller in length than the usual snails, and their shells were dark-brown and straw-coloured, shiny, and flatter.
  10. Yup, I saw it too, yesterday morning around 6ish. Wonder where it takes off from and lands?
  11. I saw a rat scurry into Goodrich School about five weeks ago. It was BIG and fast and seemed to like the gutters.
  12. All this will stop come November when normal, double-deckers replace the bendies.
  13. I was at PR station yesterday and thought it was looking good - the new paintwork, the removal of the tagging. I hope the booking hall is going to get a spruce up, too. Thanks.
  14. I've just seen Southwark council workers install two recycling bins - for paper, tins, plastic and glass - at the bus stop opposite Curry Cabin. The van they were using was full of them, so there might well be more of them being put in.
  15. Oh, Julie, give me and the rest of us a break from your Pollyana-ish nonsense! The pool is six months behind schedule, which is not acceptable, likewise the excuse (no, not reason) given that it was because of the cold weather. I am not a typically cynical, bash-the-politicians type, but I am a realist and apply common sense and reasonable-mindedness to my criticisms. The Dulwich Baths Affair is officially a FAIL.
  16. Karrie, It seems very likely that the young man in the video does have a mental health problem, perhaps undiagnosed. The degree and length of the outburst is different from the short, staccato flip-outs that many of us have had when pushed. The very fact the other passengers stayed calm and did not get involved in a fight with him suggests that they knew he was unwell and not your average disgruntled passenger. I found the action of the two potty-mouthed trendies nearly as disturbing as that of the 'star' of the video, unable to hide their glee at being able to film their very own potentially-viral YouTube hit.
  17. Are there different versions of the Jersey Tiger? I see a fair few of them in the morning but not sure if they are the same thing. Lots of what I think are hover-flies, again in the morning and those moths that look like a T-lock - very slim wings, almost twig-like.
  18. What will happen to the bendies? Will they be sold, or are they on a lease? If you don't know, could you at least tell us where I could find out. Thanks.
  19. Very good. Clever, but not smart-arse, great themes - love, life, reality, guilt, redemption, good effects and NOT 3D!
  20. Just having a jolly hassling people? Do you really think they do that? I don't.
  21. Call and register you complaints and thoughts to TfL - 0845 305 1234.
  22. I was on the 12 this morning, hoping that the new bus lane in SE15 would be open - finally. It looks finished but there is a small area cordoned off by the seemingly ubiquitous Conway plastic fences, surroundng absolutely nothing! I will ring Southwark today to see whether I can get to the bottom of it.
  23. Devo's new offering. V good. If you like Whip It, you won't be disappointed. Great oover, too!
  24. Smashing; ta-ta; indeed; yonks; skinnymalink; dobber; super; togs; clobber; get-up; tutty (make-up); vim (gusto); pep.
  25. This from the thread on the new Goose Green playground. Could you look into to it to see whether the poster is correct? So frustrating I am in the playground most afternoons and can not believe the workmens attitude to the job rom 330 onwards no work happens they either sit just inside the cabin or go to the loo with newspapers to read no actual work happens i had hoped with the signs up for the launch of the playground they might pull their fingers out ( or put down their newspapers) but no and so the oficial launch happened beore the playground was ready and when i drove past friday evenin there was tons of litter- shoddy to say the least. I hope there was a clause in the contract so builders didnt get paid unless they completed on time- unlikely i know
