  1. 41 is a great age - I'm going to call it my favourite ever for... oooh, let's say the next year or so
  2. Why have we all gone beardy lately? Quids, Mr Moos, me....
  3. I only pay groats for mine the Ryness on Fleet St has had alarmist notices all over the shop for ages - so much so that I won't buy anything from them anymore. The tone of the notices reminded me of Trago Mills in Devon - hilariously bizaare antiEU rants as well as the usual ragbag of prejudices still, at least people complained about them One of the Ryness notices - "shining a light on an EU coverup" indeed... I can still say I don't like the new bulbs all that much - it's just that I don't think The Man is really interfering that much with my life here
  4. The joys of not having kids Mick. I know they pale into insignificance compared to the very real joy of raising your own, but I get by...
  5. The tweed-clad other half of BB, myself and a number of others will be rolling up around 9ish
  6. To the "posts that made me laugh" thread immediatement - good work quids
  7. quids tells me he is otherwise-engaged for the next litte while... so if this gets to 99, it's an open goal
  8. How about doing the Monopoly Board drinking game?
  9. * a queue forms outside Hatton Gardens *
  10. I'm going to suggest avoiding anything to do with water - anyone suggests punting on the Serpentine for example, tell them do do one.. Is London the venue for anything London-specific or is it the location handiest for everyone? My stag do consisted of my local pub, a darts board, a bowling alley, the landlord being very generous, and then a house part across the road. It was a fine night and never entered the realms of silliness
  11. "In the 1950s I did nearly all my shopping in Lordship Lane between The Plough and Goose Green." Has that changed much? i wasn't here in the 50's but I still do this. Of course the premises themselves have changed but the habit hasn't. Regulars listed below but I can't think of more than a handful of shops on the Lane that I haven't been in Meat - Sparkes or William Rose Veg - combo of SMBS/the Turkish shop opposite Black Cherry/the new English grocer next to the Warehouse Hair - Roches usually but will be tryuing out the new barbers General grocers - depends what's needed but whichever of the small shops I'm closest to at the time and CoOp when I'm stuck Estate Agents - bought from Bushess, rented from Haart Wine - Green & Blue mostly with occassional forays into Bossman and Nicolas White Dent (estate agents) Follet's (record shop) Smith's (greengrocers) David Grieg (chain grocer) Woolworths Co-op (chain grocer - then still interconnected shacks built on stilts over the bomb site) Segar's (hairdressers) United Dairies (chain dairy) Kingston's (butchers) Melbourne Pianos (piano and musical instrument shop)
  12. erm... yes. guilty on that one. I'll do more homework
  13. man-mouse - it was you came crashing in with the statement above. I haven't seen, nor am I advocating we ALL abandon our cars. But if you think that's the argument of course you have the hump If diesel is a less efficient/ecofriendly fuel, it does at least get a lot more people the same distance at a fraction of the fuel cost surely? I'm not telling you (or even suggesting) what to do - I'm just saying: The reasons you state are by and large preferences not obstacles People need to get around - no one is saying abandon all cars or all vehicles - there is no moral equivalence. But there is a practical benefit in moving close to 100 people in a vehicle slightly larger than 2 cars, than there is in moving 2 people in the same space. If we are all in buses and still the streets are clogged, I'll listen to you equate the two again European don't have the same mind-set as Londoners - they don't take to the roads and say "when we have an integrated system THEN I will use it" etc.. They just use it. You said not everyone lives near a tube station or easy connection. My girlfriend and I lived at the top end of Friern Rd for 8 years - as far from any connection you can get I would say? You WANT to drive - and that's fine. Just say it. Don't make up reasons. Your descriptions of those of us who do use public transport don't endear you - I arrive at work smelly and unclean do I?
  14. Quids LOVES the competition - go on, ask 'im!
  15. We can't all abandon our cars - but a majority of drivers can. Most of the reasons you highlight are preferences, and not genuine obstacles Just saying like And as more and more people take to the roads and petrol starts to run out, cost, convenience and speed will all disappear so any changes you can make in advance can only be beneficial
  16. LtPaperClip Sadly, BBW is often offsenive and rude. We have however, taken him off the troll list
