  1. I know people are different but after 8 years on Friern Rd I settled into the rhythms of the bin-men - if they altered the routes so that it only happened occasionaly on Friern Rd at 6am it would seem more of a disturbance. To me anyway (it didn't take me 8 years to settle - that was more to let yo know how long I have been aware of them !)
  2. website says 30th but for some reason I had the same idea as you, ratty
  3. Indeed Wouldn't it be worth it if he made his speech in female clothing, spending 10 minutes thanking everyone via a great flight of fantasy JUST to see the various faces in the crowd
  4. Dizzy rascal has had a fairly monumental year, and Anthony and the Johnsons released their third album to pretty widespread acclaim. Ms Dynamite went off to start a family and didn't fancy leaving them behind to soend a couple of years on the road. Fair enough The Mercury isn't about predicting who is going to go massive in a "postman whistling on his round way" more about plucking out lesser known artists. That said it is STILL an award ceremony and therefore completely arbitrary but I'd rather listen, even if it's only once, to most of the nominees of this one that the Brits
  5. I was certainly impressed by the demo that came out a few weeks back and might yet pick this up... The Arkham Asylum graphicnovel that came out years ago remains a favourite
  6. Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead - I see Kenyon has left Chelsea Watch their PR improve ten-fold in the next 12 months. Man, I disliked him...
  7. I'm with Keef as well - Arsenal aren't even playing one of the best Belgian teams - just a "Standard" one - say it all really. That said, someone said these stages are starting to resemble the Carling Cup - it's where the big teams will try out some youngsters (while Man U can afford to give the boy Owen some time on a pitch). Personally, I quite like watching young players breaking through so it's a rare chance to see them As for the UEFA U-turn, my take is that UEFA were wrong to ban Eduardo in the first place (it wasn't immediate and they must have taken counsel) but they were doubly-wrong to rescind the decision. The decision was made and I doubt they saw any new evidence - they just felt a bit sheepish. But by reversing the decision, I agree with Oliver Holt -
  8. New Bhoy It's a bar which is pretty much identical to any other bar in London - they all serve reheated Brakes food, don't call themselves gastropubs, but because of the silly prices they charge for this fodder, people often think they are oh now wait, I see what you meant What you really want is here http://www.londonbar.net/
  9. If I ever end up living in SteveT's desired world, shoot me On what basis do you make this kind of hypothesis Steve? Have a look around the world at countries with STABLE workforces. Now have a look at countries with UNSTA.. sory, I mean "flexible" workforces
  10. Simon Rimmer is decent enough as well. For a Liverpool fan
  11. You would never ram anything down anyone's necks would you PR? He just suggested it - he hasn't forced you to do anything. has he even done it in a councillor's capacity or maybe as a human being. He isn't going to come round your house and insist against your health that you cycle a bike Sheesh, overreaction...
  12. Do they have no "aren't we wonderful" type people? really? then again it could be true as the concept of doing away with plastic bags maybe doesn't have quite the same divided reaction it does here.. they have mostly adopted the euro for example but over here in Engerland....
  13. But if I had to be trapped in a lift with a chef, I'm choosing Anthony Bourdain. Ocassionally obnoxious but willing to hold his hands up, plus some great stories
  14. but the grannies love him!
  15. And to think some people call you chivalrous, Steve...
  16. Nowhere is 100% safe but I have been walking home every night for 8 years without a hiccup My girlfriend walks home on her own as well and ditto You'll be fine - fear of fear is worse than what's potentially out there
  17. It's those irreplaceables that really burn Good descriptions from you about what they might be carrying tho - best of luck getting them back And you're right about no-one being hurt - my brother was staying with me when I got done and it happened whilst I was at work. He interrupted the burglar and there was a bit of aggro with a stanley kife. In the end there was no contact and the guy fled but it's grim stuff
  18. sorry to hear about your news NB - it's a real gut-wrench when it happens There was a similar spate of reports on the forum a couple of months back, following much the same MO (I imagine it's a similar story in burglaries across the country) but I imagine it's ongoing rather than "recent"
  19. Tell you what, that God thread in there had turned into a Daily Mash spoof of the Drawing Room in the last couple of days
  20. Izzard for BBC Sports Personality of the year?
  21. Have you clicked through on the link? I like that too
  22. lard Southend or Brighton beach. Take your pick. Bot about an hour away - Lots of sand there... now go make some glass yeah? I might be with you on the more than one child tax tho'
  23. Mick - I was just suggesting that we don't get too reverential towards the man - he wasn't noted for his own respect of etiquette after all
  24. yeah I knew that which is why I checked with the family in Cork - they say they bought bin bags before as small plastic bags were useless for rubbish. I tend to agree If there was a rise in plastic bin bags and it was directly related to the introduction of the tax, was it a blip in habits or was it sustained The recent broo ha ha around old-skool lighbulbs has seen queues in hardware stores as people "stock up" but that too will flatten over time
