  1. Man Utd adopted a relatively defensive formation, guessing Arsenal would huff and puff to no great effect, and that Man Utd could then score on a break Quality was largely absent although Nani was excellent, Anderson not far behnd and the young pole in the Arsenal goal looks a good prospect Rooney missed spectacularly from the penalty spot Don?t think I missed much else of interest
  2. No doubt keef, no doubt. But given the effort involved I?ll stay prospecting in different fields For a good mix of new and talented artists, coupled with some old-timers, the monthly Word cd that comes with the magazine will, by a factor (ho ho) of 100, lead to a better listening experience Another problem I have with the cover versions is they aren?t just covering other pop songs, but mullering and destroying stone cold classics. I was listening to ?Into My Arms? the other morning on the way to work and suddenly thought that some bright spark on the production company would love to get their hands on that. Ick ick ick
  3. Pretty comprehensive and interesting article about the problems facing RIM/Blackberry RIM
  4. Chalk another one up to Nani. If last season's 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford was a bad refelection on teh balance of play, Arsenal can have no complaints about last night. We created nowt
  5. I went to Hyde park to play chess with the old guys, but I couldn't find 32 of them do you mean a pub which provides chessboards or do you just mean where you can bring one along? If the latter, pretty much everywhere Liqourice used to have board games on the counter but can't recall seeing them lately
  6. If every man-jack of a layabout did nothing but waste 3 years at university studying xfactor theory, i'd still prefer it to them living at home, possibly claiming benefit because the economy is tanking. Just because... I believe they will learn from the experience and be more rounded as a result But I know that I'm in a minority there and can't impose my will on other so I'll leave that one be I think most people get the logic of many more numbers in HE requires a new funding system. And I haven't really argued against the governments proposal in any heartfelt way. I do think the sums are optimistic and people will end up worse off than that but on balance it's as workable as anything else But I also understand why this generation is holding their elders to account and protesting. And when they do so and are told they should be grateful that's just rubbing their noses in it People on here might well have gone to HE when far fewer people were doing so, but that was just luck of being born sooner. They didn't choose to be born earlier when HE applicant numbers were optimal. For whatever reason, they lucked out and had a free education. So a little more empathy from them and their peers in the government might just save us a few protests and talk of turning water cannons on people. We're not in Singapore... yet
  7. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday Interesting people, amazing voices and real empathy with music leading to genuine interpretations of others songs Xfactor contestants: Money grubbing, relatively talentless, fame hounds destined for nowhereseville. Like aliens who spent the journey to earth reading about music and singing and try and employ what they've learnt when they arrive Comparing this lot to Elvis? for shame RosieH, for shame (even tho I know you were just using it to make the point about cover versions)
  8. oops - cross-posted with Annasfield
  9. Maybe now, Allardyce will get his wish
  10. That 1979 Salem?s Lot that you remember from TV is different from any DVD you can buy ? the DVD?s are a re-edited ?movie? version which pales next to the longer runningtime of the TV series (this has been a long-standing bugbear ? it might have changed recently but you may be dissapointed if you buy without checking)
  11. Audition And even tho it?s very B Movie, something about Frank Darabont?s The Mist REALLY got under my skin in the second half
  12. If it sounds like I?m being too harsh on the game, I should point out it?s only because I love it ? I spent more hours on that game than anything else and still like to have a wander throught that world even now And keef is so right about lockpicks ? before I got the skeleton key I used to sit in front of some locks and whimper with frustration (knowing full well that what was behind the fekkin thing probably wasn?t worth it anyway)
  13. I'm not sure I would agree that whatever percentage of the population which doesn't go to Uni doesn't benefit from living in a country where more people do go But in any case, this paying for stuff directly is great - when are we doing it to the NHS???? Can anyone who hasn't gone to Uni get some kind of payment from those that did? Retrospectively I mean.. seems only fair. I never went but was paying taxes when you were a student - c'mon, dig deep
  14. Another big request for Elder Scrolls 5 ? get rid of the rubbish enemy-levelling employed in Oblivion. I LIKE starting a game knowing if I get cocky some foes can KO me in one fell swoop. And I like taking the risk for greater reward. But knowing that all the way through the game everything you get is the same, because everything levels accordingly is really frustrating And the person who wrote the Dark Brotherhood quests and storyline? Get them to do all of it in the new game Oh and another thing ? Oblivion gates. Don?t do anything as silly as them again.
  15. oops- cheers Narnia.
  16. doesn't include the interest rate of the time tho, so could be quite a bit higher And if ?70 a month is deemed reasonable for people on 30k a year to pay extra (on top of any existing taxes) can we not just ask people earning that much now to pay that much more tax - should raise a few quid, no?

  18. Shame he has said much the same before. Shame he?s been right as well
  19. With you there shell_8 A lot of speculation about what engine it will use ? heavily modified version of existing (a la Fallout) or new (incorporating buts of id Tech 5 which they acquired last year) A year seems like a long time to wait tho doesn?t it? A new SSX game announced too, but it seems to dispense with much of what people loved about the originals.. bah
  20. I don?t fancy arsenal tonight ? I?ll be surprised if we get something out of the game ? but at least this one doesn?t feel like a title decider. Rooney is coming into a bit of form and could really go nuts against Arsenal but I hope not. I would like Arsenal to win more to get some mental belief than the 3 points Hats off to Spurs and Chelsea for a cracking game yesterday ? all football games should be like that
  21. ?banter? aside - Actress have confirmed game is with sound tonight so that?s the spot for me
  22. The error messages highlighted above have happened to me on a couple of occassion over the years on the forum. I haven't had them for a long time tho and not since any recent ugrades - and that is on 4 different devices In the past the messages just went away and I assumed it was something on my router or ISP side I wonder if Ladymuck and Sue share a common ISP or anything else which might narrow the cause down?
  23. there you go then - we have the beginnings of a crowd see you there LadyG - Emerson, if you are worried about not recognising anyone, PM me and I'll give you my number for when you get there.
  24. some liquid turf on me if you show up Narns Emerson - I'm counting on you to show up for support as well
  25. the screen is a huuuge projector (hi def as well) - the sound has been on before and I suspect it will be again. I might ask Scott to be sure
