  1. The Daily Mail take on it Still at least they are being men about it eh, Mick? As ever the comments underneath are the real worry
  2. Build it and they will come No question shenanigans were involved but I don't see why people think England wouldn't have been involved in those as well. Watching the news is embarrassing "what now for English football?". As if a country needs a world cup to crack on and improve
  3. Can you take a screenshot (press prtscrn - usually top right if keyboard) paste that into a file and attach on here so we can have a look. Hard to tell from your description Is it a laptop or pc?
  4. Can someone explain to me what is so wrong about spreading football to non-footballing countries? Apart from anything else qatar is now going to come under international scrutiny about their human rights record. Expect to see improvements there
  5. Well we have had it for 3 years running, but even so it is actually still pretty rare And telling councils to spend/invest money in this day and age needs more than fine words Other countries, including Switzerland do not always cope well with their more regular and predictable snow either And lastly, countries with regular snow, deal with it better not JUST because of council activity. All drivers use snowchains on pain of fine, some roads are closed off to traffic, shopkeepers and some residents are legally obliged to clear outside their premises etc - basically many things that would have britons squealing if they were implemented from on high
  6. I quite enjoyed the walk too - I think degrees of pleasantness will depend on what time you did it. After 7:30-8 ish it's going to be too busy to call it anything other than a slog
  7. Or maybe it's because some women choose partners badly? reading the thread again, I think Huguenot's initial postings were all valid and didn't personally attack anyone - it was DJKQ who nuked the thread with her dismissal of men and the crimes they commit - that made it a more gender based conflict I'm pretty sure that if men started a thread along these lines, huguenot would have posted the same few posts at the beginning expressing his disapproval
  8. I THINK the point H is trying to make is not gender specific, and I think he is getting an unfairly hard time Despite IV?s attempts to make it a ?serious? issue about women?s needs, I think DJKQ has the right of it with her comment about the thread just being a bit of fun But it?s pretty childish fun to be talking about it on a local forum IMO ? just as it would be if a thread started (and please, don?t, anyone) where men spoke about what gets them off, and how explosive the end-results are. It would almost certainly draw some complaint. At which point would the likes of H start talking about people being anti-men for that reason? I don?t think so ? I get the giggly fun bit, and I'm no prude in conversation or real life ? but in written word, on an local internet forum it loses something and just comes across as overly silly
  9. "Ladym So what do you do when you meet people, just stare at them and say "require input"?" funnily enough that's not far off what happened first time I met her!
  10. mrs f - if I were you (as in pregnant) I wouldn't go out today at all. The train stations are effectively shut and will be hell if they do open, but the risk of slipping on the paths is much greater I ended up head over heels and landed flat on my back - it must have been alarming to see because a car stopped to see if I was ok. But my other half is pregnant and apart from me saying she shouldn't walk in these conditions, her work have told her to not even try as well But in general, if people are worried, any journey to town shouldn't take much more than an hour - walk to Camberwell and buses are running fine from there
  11. Income generation is not to be sniffed at these days PGC, but I take your point I haven?t liked the finger wagging at the BBC and Times for running the FIFA allegations and the huffy ?the timing hasn?t helped?. No it probably hasn?t but then that isn?t the main consideration if the allegations are true But let?s assume that corruption is rife and blah de blah, the WC is going to end up SOMEWHERE, so I would be happy to see it here. Then again, if it goes somewhere else I won?t be weeping into my pillow I?m still recovering from the Gary Linaker story tho
  12. A lot of people were doing as i did and walked to camberwell. Plenty if buses heading north from there I'll be about 30 mins late... I'll take that
  13. Sometimes I realise how deeply, deeply un English I am
  14. Oh I know you had your tongue in cheek, and I only replied because I thought it was ironic, given other recent ?old skool? pub threads that of all the pubs with a history of a big screen it was the Wishing Well. I know lot?s of people are going to be intrinsically against the idea, but doing it in other countries you can see how much MORE sociable people are in these places when strangers have a common interest for a while. I?m not trying to enforce it on anyone, but if one pub out of a bazillion is giving it a go I don?t see why people are so quick to dismiss it either. I hear the ?I go to the pub because?..? lines, but in my experience these things all happen anyway
  15. The irony here being that the old fashioned, manly boozer that was the Wishing Well had a great big screen showing ITV all the time, Corrie included
  16. well nobody mentioned it apart from me, piers and PGC
  17. I would suggest/argue/think that there is quite a difference between banning someone from a shop and having a picture of those that have been banned/stolen Say you are one of the newsagents/small grocers along LL. These are small places, which if a shoplifter so chooses, he/she can be in and out of in seconds before a shopkeeper has time to say ?oi you, you?re barred?. And that?s assuming everyone who might be behind the counter is aware of everyone who is barred It also means the shoplifter can just avoid that shop, for a while anyway Put yourself in the mind of a shoplifter for a second. You remember the good old days when you could just get barred. But now your picture is in the windows of shops, it?s not such a good idea anymore is it. You are a free man/woman, walking around. Noone is putting you on trial or curtailing your freedoms ? but you don?t feel so invisible any more (come to think of it, I?m sure I have been in pubs which have had pictures of banned punters on display before, and these displays have been shared amongst pubs in the area)
  18. How did Huguenot's comments about decorum turn into a diatribe about men who commit sex crimes? Sheesh
  19. isn't that the same prinicple as the shopkeepers tho' Loz? If I thought it would lead to vigilate-ism I wouldnt support it. But what it does do is shine a light into a dark and murky area and sends a message to a lot of would-be shoplifters. It won't lead to any violence against persons
  20. At 7am outside Cafe Nooro, where there is an update display, there were no 40s mentioned and I saw none pass either way so I'm guessing not. Or at least I wouldn't rely on one
  21. and yes I could have designated this thread but I didn't - I thought this thread was a general one about snow in ED - which it still could be, so please post traffic and transport in the other thread - ta
  22. As there are so many travel threads I've closed the others and pointed to this one it'll be much easier for people to follow what's happening with travel if it's all in one place
