The more tax a government collects, the less it has to borrow on the markets, the less exposed it is to the current madness, the less likely things are likely to blow up in my (individual or corporate) face That?s what sanity sounds like to me I?m aware that anyone arguing for people to pay more tax can be portrayed as enviour or jealous. But that really isn?t the case But if greed has got us into this global mess then further displays of greed are unseemly at best

Woman asking for sponsorship - scam?
SeanMacGabhann replied to KateFord's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I hate any door-to-ddor stuff as well - it's bad enough when you know it's a legit business like nPower doing the hard-selling but when you aren't even sure of that.. For what it's worth I think it's just someone who is hard up trying to earn a crust - i couldn't find evidence of it being a scam after (an admittedly cursory) google, but I found quite a few places like this http://www.t-shirtforums.com/screen-printing/t99717.html which is no good to you after your experience I know, but if it explains what happened it might help a little bit -
What exactly consitutes a working class snob?

I prefer sober Mick. We didn't have to deal with so many of his threads in November ;-) The tax take is important. Moreover it's nigh on impossible for someone on 20k to comprehend why they have no options to avoid tax when billionaires do. Is that so hard to comprehend? On 20k I NEED to pay less tax to get by. Why does someone on billions or even millions feel the same need. I will never ever ever ever ever get this

Agreed fleur. But it isn't the only source and the lack of reply in 24 hours told it's own story i think It suggested to me that there wasn't really a problem. -
Djkq Just conversation with people. People who would have gone either way in the past. I think opinion polls are at best irrelevant and short termist (even when I agree with them) and dangerous and misleading at worst As the days go by it will be easier and easier to find more people angry with the government. Less easy to find people backing a recently deposed party regardless of leader and tactics. An important difference. And I think true regardless of which party was in which position when all this went down Miliband could promise (and even have the ability to deliver!) the earth at the moment. Wouldn't make a jot of difference. Labour are electoral poison for a while. But that will change

"And as one who picks up every detail on posts, Sean, I am surprised you write a line like "Having realised it's about fresh food at that coop many people would have been surprised such a thing exists, and how would they know a shortage existed." Define many people. See? Let him who is innocent cast the first stone etc etc. " Just to be clear my many people consists of all the many posts over the years (and friends who use the shop). By some margin the consensus is the shop should be much much better and especially in the fresh produce section Your "see? Let him who is innocent" etc is a bit weird -

Christ on a bike indeed As someone who went to that co op for 8 years i think I have a reasonable idea what it's like. But thank you for assuming otherwise Basically i think it's a glorified cornershop. In a part of town with not a lot of options it is a bit of a lifeline for people but as a source of fresh food? Come on... It's emergency stuff. As long as the forum has been active, people have been decrying that shop so my little "ho ho who knew it served fresh food" was a bit of light hearted ribbing in it's direction. I have seen the franchisees get quite a hard time from head office on a few occasions and have some sympathy for them. It can't be easy to balance that space and location with the profits required. More fresh produce and they risk wastage. I saw the initial post and was going to move it to Ed businesses yesterday. Then i read it, saw what you were trying to do and thought fair enough. But then your follow up a day later came across as a bit finger wagging so I posted why you hadn't had any replies. I also pointed out it isn't really a good source of fresh food I know the shop well. And I stand by my comments. As ever tho you appear to have a bee in your bonnet when i reply -
Ongoing issues. Have a look in the about the forum section Admin aware. Hard to pin down it would seem

I didn't say anything negative about your first post PR but your second, a day later, was telling people off for reading and not responding. You only live across the park don't you? And you have a bike (I think) So I responded to that. Thanks for the kind words on this and on the other thread tho You are quite the charmer -
I did mean that Katie yep. Predictive text wha? Mick you seem to suggest we are about to turn a corner. I would like to think the same.

I think the country is still behind the government at the moment. To just oppose will just colour miliband in peoples mind. He also doesn't appear AWOL to me. I've followed him since election. I don't agree with everything he does but you say AWOl, i say playing a long game
-
No worries. Sorry if I sounded so incredulous.
-
But hey. X factor public knows what it does and doesnt like. So vote away.
-
If miliband was someone you liked you would blame the media for underrepresenting him The next 12 months or so is not the time to score political points. No opposition leader of any hue is going to get any traction. Sure they could jump up and down and oppose this and that, and that may yet happen but it would be very productive.

I think lots of people have read the thread because the title isn't explicit enough Having realised it's about fresh food at that coop many people would have been surprised such a thing exists, and how would they know a shortage existed Then they would have gone about buying food wherever they normally buy it -
Going via google? Every time? Don't you just bookmark it? The bookmark can even be an icon on your phone just like an app

Aha. I found it I suspect it's fat fingers rather than any other reason but am looking into it

You want to say which thread so he can investigate lm ?

If only there was a thread on here where you could address that question to a lib dem councillor

That doesn't mean we should toady up to him and FIFA either But if everyone felt the organisation is as corrupt as they feel now then why get so upset. Why should England get it anyway? Euro 96 was recent enough, one of the best leagues in the world an great stadia. We are sorted. Kids here are lucky, bordering on complacent about football. If we focused on getting the national team right and started winning tournaments then maybe we would have more clout but as it is it's embarrassing to claim any rights after a world cup performance like this summer But kids in Russia and yes Qatar will have plenty new to look forward to. Blatter is weird and possibly crooked and and egotist. But surely it's right to push football into new territories or we would still be kicking pigs bladders around villages Is there a funny smell off Russia winning? No more than any other result in truth

videos and huge ring bound presentations are all peripheral to the bid anyway - but why let that get in the way of another Mail racist tract There are many reasons England did so badly - the BBC/Times expose didn't help, the Birmingham pitch invasion last week didn't help but I suspect the decisions had been made long before then - I would suggest the attitude FIFA sees so regularly in british papers (almost daily) about Blatter and co is a bigger factor than anyone wants to admit If England had won the bid, would that mean everyone complaining about bungs would still be saying we shouldn't have got it because it was obviously a fix? Talk about sore losers

How is this different from the discussions in the snow watch thread?
