I?ll bow to you on that one, I just don?t recall any great spell. I suppose that FA cup final was a feat but Dennis Wise got Milwall to a final and you wouldn?t let HIM get near Newc? oh
-
If you can forget for a moment Ashley?s track record, and just for a moment go with him on the ?well I?ve been lucky to pay peanuts for a manager who got us promoted and fairly steady in a turbulent Premiership, but what we really need is an established manager ? someone I can give a proper contract to and to really take this team forward? If you can do that (and fair play if you can), would Alan Pardew be the name you come up with? If he was an unknow I?d say fair play, give him a chance (but I#?d also be saying stick with Hughton in that case) but his track record (real and alleged) is rubbish. Couple that with the Newcastle atmosphere, and Jah might be an optimist at 6 months

I looked that up too and got nothing I thoufght it might be a misspelling of some As Far As I Know acronym but can't be sure

Where Were You When You First Heard John Lennon Had Died?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Jah Lush's topic in The Lounge
I would have been 12, in my mum?s kitchen, eating cereal. I remember it vividly I don?t recall her being a Beatles fan in any way (irish showband woman that she was/is) but she was very shocked and something in me felt something I never had before. I didn?t know much about lennon or the Beatles prior to the shooting but I became obsessed with lennon for about a year. Never the Beatles (didn?t and still don?t like them) After that year, and long before I was aware of his ?difficult? reputation I was over him. I tried a couple of albums again years later but they just manage to annoy me, even the songs I used to love -
That was how i read it too As for assange allegations, interesting letter from women against rape group today http://bit.ly/fMd6R6

I haven't seen ANYTHING to suggest that, from his lips or anyone
-
you say laughable, I say only sane response to an unusual situation. I don't think he's "doing it for the sisters" tho - but even if he was, there isn't anything inherently wrong in that.
-
Ridgeley - i am a liberal leftie but what I objected to is the use in modern parlance as an insult for example quids had a go at Johann Hari's article in teh wikileaks thread as a good example of what he objects to so I've just gone and read it and can't see too much wrong with it. Whereas quids does....
-
Firstly I don?t want to smear anyone but I do get tired of being called ?liberal? and worthy as an insult All economic policies (including UK) have their own risks and problems. Quids is well placed to observe the carnage in Ireland at the moment but Iceland was in a similar (even worse?) boat and they had nowt to do with the Euro The eurozone is in massive crisis, some of which is a direct result of it?s inherent structure, some of which is global in nature If we take the 3 points in the OP, even if factually correct (and I don?t agree with all them) is the concept not born out of valid ideas and goals ? and end to the feudal european values of old, which have resulted in world wars and the like? If you don?t accept there is validity in exploring a way forward via monetary union then there is no debate to be had If you think there is some validity but are worried about the reasons expressed (and more) then fair enough ? but none of the reasons are inherent showstoppers. The countries in the zone are still wary of each other and retain national traits but I would still argue they have seen more change for good in the last 20 years than the current crisis suggests So again, without wishing to smear anyone, I don?t think the Euro is done-for just yet and even if continues to fall apart and eventually expires I still think it a valid attempt and cooperation and cohesion (even tho I understand the argumets against, some of them mentioned in the OP)

just to remind everyone that the regular EDF drinks are at The Lodge on the 10th (above EDT) if it helps combine with a bigger crowd? Not sure but thought I'd point it out

Traffic Jam Lordship Lane today
SeanMacGabhann replied to leon parker's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Are the spaces outside Mirash available for parking or not? If so I don?t see what they are doing wrong If the road needs to be more clear to allow flow of traffic then the council will presumably zone approriately It?s people who park up in bus lanes that bother me ? not people who park legally -
I know, I know To be fair, no it doesn?t go out of it?s way to show LL in anything other than a realistic light ? main character is a newly homeless guy who gets attacked in Peckham Rye park and does a lot of wandering around at the beginning. I don?t think any estate agents will be using footage as a selling point

sheesh - last time I try and big up a film I've just seen
-
well yes, but that's about as many people who have had a chance to see it yet how about the quote from a Time Out reader "a cross between withnail & I and Midnight Cowboy" come on!
-
I doubt it very much as half the posters on here live in Peckham - are you sure posts weren't just moved to another section? This post for example you have but in the East Dulwich Issues section when really it's about your perception of the forum and should be in "About the forum" section? Which posts do you think have been removed?

I watched Treacle jr. last night Not on general release yet but there was a q&a with the director Jaimie Thraves at the Mag last night Shot in and around East Dulwich and Herne Hill, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was fantastic. Aidan Gillen normally plays "cool" but here he is as exposed and open as any character I've seen on film for a long time and the rating on IMDB is one of the highest I've seen - 9.3 so it's looking for distribution before he looks at the DVD market but keen an eye out for it

lordship lane post office 20 mins
SeanMacGabhann replied to Dickensman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Post office near me at Blackfriars has closed down completely and is now a Tesco - apart from a small room next door which consists only of machines which weight and dispense correct postage stickers. When it works it's great but when you need to check anything, or if all the machines are out of order it's pointless -
but if anyone wants to know where he is hiding, Eddie Izzard seems to know Assange est dans l'arbre

some of us hope that as Lib Dem spokesperson you will support the opposite view as well such is the life of a politician - I don't envy you one bit
-
But these leaks have done nothing of the sort, and inventing what-if scenarios is silly What they HAVE done is shine a light on the fact that not only do the public in the US and UK not want the Afghan wars, but the leaders themseleves have long thought them pointless. But they can't say that to their electorates. But they can waste all lives on boths sides and the billions of cash? I think that's worth knowing. Well, I say knowing, many people already think this but it's nice to have it confirmed
-
and yet, not that surprising is it? You got the impression the powers at Newcastle were just waiting for the right moment and yesterday's poor display was reason enough Hard to see what Hughton has done wrong - I can't see anyone else getting them promoted and sitting where they are in the Premiership. I suspect quite a few people who wished them well will now be not-a-little chuffed if they go down again
