Free market excess and the credit crunch
SeanMacGabhann replied to dulwichdoll's topic in The Lounge
I'm with Jon Stewart on this one The banks are frightened and won't lend money The populace are frightened and won't spend money Why don't the governments, instead of giving the banks all the money, give the money to the populace who use the money to pay off all the mortgage - they become debt free. Meanwhile the banks still end up with all the cash and have no dodgy mortgages on the books -
Anywhere to watch the Superbowl? (Lounged)

Tony Tony Tony please please please for the love of Gaelic Sports, stop on this one. The more you explain yourself the less sense you make. The basic accusation is that you have hijacked a thread stands. You don't have to like the sport but you are posting 2 and 3 messages at a time and just rambling All sport is increasingly following the money. No-one has a right to get sanctimonious about it. If people like the game of american football and you don't, by all means have a tease but you are increasingly belligerent, incoherent and starting to alienate. There has been a thread going for aaaages about cricket, something I can't abide, and some good people have kindly offered to take me. I might even take them up on the offer. But I'm not going to spend pages telling people who like cricket off -

Didn't this happen months ago, around the same time he got into a kerfuffle with his family? Suggests to me there is more going on here than a tantrum at an art director Definitely acting like an arse, but most of us have surely done that at one point or another. Add in the fact that he has been in "the business" since he was a little boy and I'm pretty sure he has issues... -
Yep, messages were sent to the user account and were ignored, whilst the "replies" to threads kept on coming dulwichmum - you haven't missed much - some"one" called alla joined and posted 50 or so messages in a few minutes, all basically auto-replies. Admin stepped in and dealt with it

buses? (are they running today)
SeanMacGabhann replied to iwritelists's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
your choices from E&C are pretty good Strawbs 63,12 to go past the end of ED Road 176,40 to go via LL the bad news is that E&C is an almighty mess to walk around, the bus stops are spread about all over the place and it's usually a scrum If you go to LB, the 40 stops right outside teh station at the south end of the bridge. so does a 35 which I get to camberwell and change if I'm impatient Unless it's a lot easier to get to E&C from where you are , I would go to LB -

Not the first I have heard of either karter - assuming it's not gossip, what makes landlords think NOW is a good time for a rent-rise? Surely better to keep existing tenants on-side as it were and guarantee the income -

SeanMacGabhann replied to Natalious13's topic in The Lounge
but, but, but.. snorks. I am none of those things! Ok I don't like it as much as I used to (I used to go to Wembley to see the London Monarchs) but a well orchestrated throw and catch is a thing of beauty -
Alla has not passed go and has gone directly to jail
-
No you're right - bot it is Should be sorted now tho..

I wondered as much but he/she seems to be referring to the right subject at a given time
-
so, what do we make of this case then been in the news a few days now.. Nurse. Sacked after offereing a prayer to a patient. Apparantly
-
ahhh - now I get it. I thought she meant "the ground rules change" - but she meant talking about one subject and then it gets steered into something else doh - slow... apologies

Free market excess and the credit crunch
SeanMacGabhann replied to dulwichdoll's topic in The Lounge
Sorry to be the one to take a stand against you again MM, but Not strictly true - Britain's opt-out meant that many many employess had to sign a waiver form. I know I did. ostensibly it was a choice but those people that didn't were soon got rid of. Call me an old square from the past, but these are hardly lofty ideals which should only be available to people working nearly double the French equivalent. Look at it another way, countries which enfore a 35 hour maximum week appear to be able to achieve the same thing. Now I don't want to stop you from working as long as you want.. but that's different I work about 40-50 hours a week without overtime , but with constant pressure to do more. By more, some people do double that. Out of fear mostly. for the very reason Huguenot mentions - it's easier to spend less on admin when you don't have to deal with the awkward customers. And when you were doing your "eating within a poverty budget" excercise, how much of that budget went on your ?1500 premiums? Fortunately, once again we are able to scan the world and look at where this admin-light, easy-peasy healthcare system works to prove your point... umm.... -
a good question for most of his/her posts...
-
Jeremy - if your point was true (ie a consistent thing) , I would get it. But the accusation was "people changing things around on the forum" - don't know what that means. from what to what? jaybee - I don't think anyone has said it's "inciting racial hatred". For my part I just don't think it's that helpful.

Where else in the world but here?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Any hope I held in my heart that Louisa might have warmed up a little after yesterday.. cruelly dashed Here's a forecast Louisa - visitors will keep coming to London. They will!!! Honestly.... Thousands you say? It's scarcely believable isn't it. Thank heavens the good citizens of this country have never had to endure hardship of the like .... Or, and this is more likely, killed or injured by either their lack of care or a drivers lack of care and attention. These things happen every day on dry roads Louisa -
sorry legalbeagle - cross posted with yours - but I wasn't having a go at you. Easy enough to spot who I was targeting ;-)

Shall I do it again? Oh fuck it why not When people give out about H&S, what is it they are really giving out about? I THINK they are giving out about "the council/The Man/inpetitude/broken britain/Littlejohn is right" etc etc but that is usually wrong What is behind a decision to close a park on "H&S" grounds is the fear of being sued by YOU the public. If people stopped suing for every fekkin thing then there wouldn't be this fear of health and safety It really is that simple.. so if you are going to vent, have the right targer and stop hitting people with a blunderbuss
-
I don't understand this bit.. what is it meant to mean? I can understand knackeredcow wanting to give fair warning - I've been burgled and it's majorly upsetting. But descriptions of any sort aren't that useful as a warning, regardless of colour, creed etc etc. The whole point about being burgled is you don't know it's happening until it's done... if I wake up at 2am tomorrow morning to confront a burglar, him having dreads, or being skinny and blonde isn't going to help me the only thing we can all do is take the warning on practical advice re: locks and so on
-
but it was nearly 2 years ago to be fair

Will tomorrow also be a "snow day?"
SeanMacGabhann replied to jocelyn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Left at normal time, prepared to walk Got to ED station and buses were fairly plentiful if busy Got on a 40, arrived at work (Blackfriars) earlier than usual I'm here with practically no-one else so far mind you... but it was no trouble at all -

SeanMacGabhann replied to iwritelists's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What Floating Onion said I passed 37s, 185s, 176s and 40s all in operation today - caught a 40 to E&C but most buses were busy (and handled DKH with aplomb)
