East/North Dulwich Train Robberies

London Standard in bigging up fear shocker! -
Liverpool definitely having a watershed moment - but we have seen clubs do this before and bounce back. There will be more twists and turns yet I say Villa do look solid, so it's in my interest to hope that Liverpool or Chelsea get found out... but I think both will regain form. I wonder how Eduardo and Walcott returning will affect our run-in but I'm not panicking just yet... wht it was only a few years ago we qualified for CL because Spurs got a nosebleed on the final day ;-)

I gt the impression teh OP wants to do something local in ED - so not quite Lounge material yet. Possibly close. Or possibly in the recommendations section -
Well now we are all curious pr !

implicit in your post is an attraction for Mick Mac tho', PGC - care to deny or confirm? The people I have had the largest barneys with on here are often people I have gone on to find common ground with ( * wipes a tear at the memory of NatashaD *) I'm always glad when Louisa comes back a-postin' after an absence, but we often diagree on both content and approach.

Agreed. But counter-culture? I thought you were talking about banks * I thank you. I'm here all week. Try the veal * As for squatters - this particular bunch don't sound like a savoury bunch but squatters as a group are not some homogenous bunch. Some of them are pretty decent

yeah but people stick posters up all over town when a pet goes missing, with mobile numbers attached - it's not very different is it? I mean, I wouldn't do it - but if people want to...
-
the most back-handed of compliments that one quids! I bet the people occupying the house know how to spell squatters tho ;-)

But then again is it not wrong to hide ones talents ?

indeed CC, indeed. Believe you me when some of the regular forumites of the caliber of TillieTrotter and Moos to name but two are ranged against one, it doesn't half concentrate the mind

heh heh on topic: there is nothing that has been said viz: possible solutions and entrenchment on both sides that I have not heard (and said myself) re: the Northern Ireland situation. I grew up through the troubles and you could not have possibly persuaded anyone I knew that one day Martin McGuinness and Ian Paisley would one say be photographed together, much less smile, shake hands and share power. Even writing that, I hardly credit it. But even the most belligerent party gets jaded and before they know it, thoughts turn to pragmatic solutions. It just seems absurd that so many people have to die before that stage is usually reached (oops, bit trite that last statement... still)

charliecharlie firstly, TonyLondonSuburbs an established forumite?? Has it come to this ;-) Seriously tho, I thought orla's post was excellent and provided much more background in a way that I didn't get from the initial post. (Which I'm not knocking either btw) Up until that point I thought there was a fair bit of room for a discussion about what constitutes losing perspective. And some people's instinct leant more towards compassion whereas others, given the detail at the time, thought that it might have been an overreaction. And people do sometimes overreact and shout fire in a theatre so it's good to have people who question that too. I don't think it constitutes meanness. Keef expressed it pretty well a few posts ago too. As for Dulwichdoll - I don't think she got it in the neck on the other thread for the detail.. maybe the content and tone. In these times ( © every bleedin media outlet ) any businessperson accusing employees of being useless probably faces a less than sympathetic public

Free market excess and the credit crunch

Cheers Brendan - I meant to add something along those lines. I did fear a sort of "well if you don't like it here..." response, which may yet happen. But I do like it here. A lot. I've lived longer here than the country of my birth now (ouch) Which is why any "broken Britain" stories get my back up. Speaking of the country of my birth, they seem to have set off on a similar road about 20 years ago and they are palpably more miserable than they were when they were a near-third-world economy -
Ted - apologies for any tardiness in my reply... The reason I was interested in Dan's post was I got to know him through his connection with GutRocking and he had many ideas about spaces for comedy/music/performance and wondered if this was what he was angling after. Plus I was on my phone at the time so typing was a real faff. Dan also plays a mean game of rounders fact fans

Free market excess and the credit crunch
SeanMacGabhann replied to dulwichdoll's topic in The Lounge
"employees restricted to a 35 hour week" I wish I was restricted to a 35 hour week Tis true that employers have a greater burden in the Gallic model. But if the net result is a happier country and populace why shouldn't that be the cost? I do not susbcribe for one moment to the Daily Mail agenda of a "broken Britain" - but in the 20+ years I have lived here it has always surprised me how mercantile, and money focused the average person is compared to many other countries . And that might be absolutely fine if it made people happy but it doesn't appear to. I probably listen to too much talk radio and work with the wrong sort - but the proverbial pie chart of those people is dominated by people constantly moaning about everything, obsessed about "others" depriving them of something or other. Guaranteed that if they had that something or other they would still be miserable I realise I am generalising wildly - and focusing on a negative to make a point. But I do wish people everywhere would worry less about efficiency and more about true value. -
What makes this question interesting is the person asking it. . I think its a smaller brewery dan. Other than that i dont know. Sorry. But i shall keep an eye on this thread

Why are Pubs so expensive in ED?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Mikecg's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
you might have no doubt, jimbob, but in my case you would be wrong Everywhere else I have live had a JDWs - and I avoided them for the most part. The cheap beer I like. The ambience, hassle from some of the more regular punters, crap food, fruit-machines a go-go, I managed to do without Why can't I go abroad and find somewhere that sells me SUCH crap food. I mean I know they eat cheaply.. but not that badly. -
