  1. Now, I'm not saying I AM Jesus... that's for you to think about in the comfort of your own homes... but if I was Jesus, this is the sort of forum I would come to isn't it? A small humble forum... not some loud, vulgar, national place like the BBC or Times ..
  2. won't be making this one again - which hacks me off as I don't miss many and now I've missed the Omrith one twice!
  3. since when? I'd be surprised if mine were that high in recent weeks
  4. AcedOut - I think you'll probably find the reasons are a lot more complicated than "laziness" It's too easy to run-down a service for public sale and then blame the staff for being lazy
  5. except the council tax is mandatory.. but I take your point I have missed transport after gigs in the past - I was not a happy bunny. Night buses are immeasurably better these days but I suspect not back from Greenwich at a late hour. Jeremy is right - In 2008 London should have a better transport system. I get the fact that the tube tunnels being so old make that a unique problem but trains and buses should be do-able erm.. but we are off-topic now aren't we?
  6. ahhhh.. but PeckhamRose HAS been to a drinks once... I remember
  7. I've just caught this too - and if it weren't for JJF pointing it out I might not have even noticed (I'm still smiling btw)
  8. I think it's fairly common practice now - I'm sure it's a cost cutting measure as part of the prep for selling the thing off. Complaining might help but I doubt it. God bless the free-market and all that
  9. oops - looks like a cross-post and my wider area has been rejected. Hopefully corner-shop suggestion stays tho!
  10. Another category suggestion Best corner shop (everyone uses them and has a favourite surely?) As keef says tho, I think we need to define what we mean by East Dulwich - not to claim some surrounding parts as East Dulwich but as most of us bimble around a probably shared radius it seems unfair to exclude some businesses based on post code? My own suggestion would be a circle drawn around The Harvester in the South, Dulwich Village to the West, the Herne Tavern and the Nuns Head Eastish and Denmark Hill Station North
  11. oooh ya bugger - I had just read that and was in the process of posting it on here - a fine post indeed young Michael
  12. PeckhamRose You have been to Swindon haven't you? A cure-all they are not
  13. of course.. we could... just stop having them?? * gets stoned to death *
  14. Wood House Phoenix Montpelier Rye Hotel Nuns Head Ivy House! Clock House The ones we have been to a few times but work IMO Plough CPT Mag (I would aim for summer and back patio area) Plenty more but that's a start
  15. Phoenix is a pretty fine idea Keef
  16. It doesn't force that at all. That's your interpreteation. You COULD (or most people could) choose to drive less Far from being a breath of fresh air wagtap is making an argument purely on selfish (I wuz caught) grounds and then regurgitating tired, stale arguments from the Jeremy Clarkson school of thought. There are not "fewer and fewer" roads - there are more and more cars and until people understand physics and maths it is impossible to have an intelligent discussion on this. You can not fit a gallon of liquid into a pint glass. People being fined for not paying attention is merely part of the 7 pints not making it into the glass
  17. OMG - I wanted to respond to this thread having been to a great and unexpected restaurant last month but could not remember the name - that's the one Huguenot I was attracted by the short menu and 4 of us had the best Chinese I have had in a loooong time. I had some equivalent of beef in black bean sauce (how original of me I know ) but it was manifestly superior to anything I had ever had before. And now I know it's name - sweeet
  18. might be my grumpy customer attitoood as well karter I'll still go accassionaly and check things out
  19. I've moved from Plough end to Goose Green end in the last few weeks so have had experience of both - and I've not noticed anything unusual. Not to say you are wrong however - the problem might be more localised. Or I might have no taste-buds
  20. 3 times in 18 months doesn't sound that bad to me. I'd be happy to return to the Gowlett. And the 2nd is possibly pushing it after NYE and that but so long as people spend the 1 st under a duvet they should be chomping at the bit for a reason to get out on the 2nd As for the Uplands - I would say that was the worst forum drinks I've been to. I give it a go with some friends once every 6 months or so (all those "under new management" signs I see) but it's always sterile and the food is poor. And with apologies to the one or two staff I have liked, the service is usually the wrong side of unfriendly - there was zero banter when they were chucking us out at the last drinks.. SE15 pubs - yep, I seem to spend more and more time in them lately. Certainly at the weekends when the Lane has become largin-it central. The Plough and the Mag are exceptions to that rule - I get to meet and have conversations with grown-ups there (sometimes I even manage to introduce people ;-) ) But I'm not suggesting we go to either the Plough or the Mag btw - we go there plenty as it is
  21. I would put that down PRECISELY to cameras, given the explosion in car use in even those 10 years But what it all means really is that too many drivers drive dangerously - that's the reason/need for cameras - many of us actively dislike them as well
  22. I know - but she may not want it plastered on a forum just yet... I'll PM you
  23. wagtap - again you have said what you don't like and what you think doesn't work So your solution for the (by the way you described it, criminal) situation on Colyton Rd is....... ?
  24. ?120 for a trivial offence sounds, to most if us, like an OTT penalty in proportion to the crime. Ditto, I tend to agree about the amount of signange and distractions to drivers But once again the bigger picture needs to be looked at... to take two examples: 1) The situation on your rd - Colyton Rd. Given that drivers are hurtling down there at 60mph what is your solution to the problem? You appear to suggest cameras would be better employed there so let's go with that for now. Let's say they were introduced and drivers responded by slowing down... ooohh but wait - that means money-spinning fines work? Plus, with the road now safer, you will get the odd driver who still gets a penalty and posts a thread wondering who he/she is harming by driving at 40mph down a little street 2) If you drive through that junction on a bike regularly then you have either seen that sign already and know about it - or you haven't seen the sign at all, despite using the junction many times, which makes it sound like you are a careless driver. Either way, it undermines your argument that you are being penalised for ONE LITTLE MISTAKE. Umm... my caps.. sorry
