  1. That glass certainly is half-empty isn't it Louisa? Do you really believe the UK was a better place to live for most of it's population when it had it's empire? (actually, sod the UK population - how did the people "conquered" by the British army feel about it!) The UK is infinitely preferable to many places in to the world as a place to .. well, be alive! But as the accusation is out there - where is better and can you think of any downsides to there?
  2. isn't drinking wine on PT banned by Boris?
  3. moved offices several times in the 7 years here - but all pretty much on the river or in the city - so Moorgate, Lower Thames St, St Katherines Dock and now Blackfriars In any of above cases I usually bus to E&C and walk the rest (gaw' bless iPods)
  4. Louisa is under the impression that the current population of ED was hatched, and have little or no life-experience outside SE22. Despite numerous posts from numerous people about the numerous places they come from and go to on a regular basis, we are told we "need to get out of Ed more often"
  5. Louisa - it might be common sense to you but I suspect the council have received a large number of complaints about that fence and want it removed - if the council do nothing then another section of the rate-paying population will accuse them of arrogance and complacency - it's lose/lose for them
  6. And if you were on the council and charged with doing the task, yet keeping all of the boroughs residents informed, consulted etc how exactly would you tackle the problem It'll only take one parent (who obviously thinks the council wastes money) to have their child infected by some dog excrement to sue the council and then they will genuinely be screwed for cash But I'm open to better ways of doing things, particularly if people have genuine experience of doing this kind of work
  7. A link to and of course he wrote the original version of
  8. Everybody knows is a great track. Marmora man is a huge fan but not sure he reads this thread. I would post more but stuck on a bus
  9. * busted * That wasn't in the small-print of the application forms badger! Not fair!!
  10. Kel - you do come up with some serious thoughts but you couch them in so much defensive blather it's hard to know what you really think sometimes! ;-) Anywhere where is this thread now - is it really at the "Bernard Manning - misunderstood legend?" stage? I though the jury was in on that one?? IE he wasn't misunderstood, and he isn't a legend he did have very good technique and delivery mind you but then so did [GODWINGODWINGODWINGODIN]
  11. That'll be Alan Moore in trouble then Lost Girls I saw a fascinating documentary on this a while back. It looks to be difficult material for sure but his work is usually brilliant I'm not QUITE sure how some line-drawings can "be" under-age mind you - do you have to draw a little number next to teh drawing (age 15) instead of (age 16)
  12. I've got TPB's book and it included that chapter DC Maybe we should descent on SMB and sample one bottle of each of their "I can't believe it's not a bowling ball!!!" sauces - they have quite the range Then again I don't think we are in it just for the heat - we like hot but not the scoville-addicts hot
  13. if I could have chosen anywhere - it would have been here! I think my 5000th was actually a mea culpa on the "buses" thread - dems the breaks I guess
  14. predictably second inthis thread but locally available chocolate chilli
  15. words mouth of out my took the
  16. don't think I haven't thought about it Jamma - but it'll serve as a monument to folly ;-)
  17. we could hve ???? at the local shock-jock ".. and once I'm done telling my next guest what's what it's time for some music.. .here's Kenny Rogers with "The Gambler" - after that we have The Bee Gees with "You Win Again"
  18. they're alright jimbo - what would you do in their position?
  19. All that said it really didn't deserve a thread of it's own - funny or not The jokes thread can be found: here As for humour and offence - it tends not to be something that can be argued with. If people find something funny and you or I find it offensive, no amount of arguing about "the joke" is going to change anyones mind....
  20. To think.. I might have shared a pint in near proximity to ???? in the Forresters and not even be aware of it
  21. Anyone with an email address sees these emails faaaaaar too many times - they come in both flavours tho, so I'm sure the equivalent male-as-hapless-idiot version could be found wouldn't make it any funnier tho'. I wouldn't call them anti-male or female.. (plenty of women I know have sent me the same email - including my sister - and found it hilarious for some reason) "You know sticks? they're really brown they are.. and if they aren't wet you can set fire to them and they burn! Say what you like about stones, they don't do that!" There are far FAR worse jokes on the jokes thread (which is where this should have gone btw)
  22. all good stuff lynchhim - ambitious too What sort of stuff are you looking for in the fanzine - or will it be entirely self produced?
  23. I'll be giving Spain plenty of goodwill and would love to see them break their tournament duck (Reyes not withstanding) I have a feeling in my bones about France this time however
  24. and if he does a Lucky 7's promotion with the Gowlett, both could get a real lift Can I borrow that Specials single for my next Lucky 7s night dave_c? It is after all the Irish National Anthem
  25. oooh yeah - I forgot to address Lady Moos's points "Buses- clear system, easy to use, hard to (genuinely) claim you didn't know what you were doing. Not so with parking. I'm not saying you can use ignorance as a defence, but (back to your ratiojalisation/emotion point re: posting) it helps understand where people are coming from, i.e. I didn't MEAN to break the rules. It is undeniably frustrating to be whacked for a big fine when you tried to do it right. " Weeeeel you'd be surprised how many people don't use buses at all because they find them confusing - "which side of the road? How do I know when to get off" etc etc. Plus, we have long since passed the stage where many drivers even pretend to get things wrong. Libracarr's post about his latest fine on another thread is a good example."i know the rules, I diagree with them but I got off on a technicality". As I've said before whilst waiting for the bus at the library - I see people park up right in the bus stop just to use the cashie - every single day. They are not being caught out by ignorance of the rules "Buses - one central public company, one set of rules. Not so with traffic wardens. Bus drivers aren't incentivised to catch fare dodgers either-at least, I think not! (That's presumably why the fare-dodger-catchers on buses and trains talk to people they've caught and make a decision whether to fine them or not...don't think you get that with traffic wardens. " Bus drivers aren't incetivised but teams of inspectors are. And last I heard there isn't much discussion if you're caught - there used to be but that's gone. People say it's a nanny-state but the reason it's become less possible to "negotiate" is so many toe-rags abusing the system
