  1. do they? If i keel over of a heart attack, I'll be calling for medical care not a god chilean miners thanked god when they came out but they may well be already religious. It was still science that got them out of a mine tho
  2. What huncs said
  3. And why would you of all people go to those 2 places huncs? The thread title is misleading
  4. The lower end of the scale for this area, Ridge. Not lower as in ?ooh look 50k for a one bedroom flat close to the station ? result? I agree with you that this still makes them unaffordable for most, which is why the prices are either coming down or the properties aren?t shifting. We tried to sell a while back and in the end figured it wasn?t going to happen
  5. Mick started this thread specifically to welcome quids back to Thursday FACT I suspect some properties (flats at the lower end) may have dropped quite a lot in price
  6. Hopefully, out of this, people will start thinking a bit more about all the thousands of miners around the world and the kind of conditions they have to work in. This kind of event can be prevented "Vincelot Tobar, who was in charge of risk prevention for San Esteban, claimed its bosses always put production before safety. He resigned in 2009 ? he said out of exasperation at the company's failure to institute safety recommendations. The company claims he was to blame for two of the deaths. "They never carried out the most fundamental adjustments needed to avoid disasters like what we're seeing today," he said. "They always pushed on production. I was the only risk assessor, without a computer, secretary or even a phone." " whole article
  7. I have seen woof own the streets of Bellenden on that bike of his. I wouldn't argue with him...
  8. Daizie ? you sure you aren?t waynetta?
  9. Well it was cancelled ? but as the people who picked it up are Gearbox, responsible for Borderlands I?m suggesting it will come and it will be awesome (and I am meh about the original Duke?s)
  10. does it look art related tho? she has here own website which might have contact details http://www.emmahackartist.com/
  11. Ridgley That being the case you have probably already heard this But just in case you haven't, it's a gem
  12. Oh good shout Piers! Maybe a conga down the hill to Oriwu Spot after a few?
  13. If noone else wants to I don't mind organising it December gets a bit manic doesn't it, how does 12th of November sound? And given it's prominence in the favourite nights, how about upstairs at the Phoenix?
  14. Homegrown players relatively overpriced? Check Too many foreign players having negative effect on homegrown players? Not so sure What has constantly irritated me over the last decade is how homegrown players mature, or rather, don?t ? prodigies at 16 but the slightest whiff of success and they disappear up their own backsides for the most part. I genuinely think that?s the main problem and I can?t see this being the fault of foreigners. But it might explain why there isn?t a queue of foreign clubs looking for british talent
  15. That phrase is just too good to not pull out
  16. Obviously the plight and subsequent rescue is incredibly moving But for the rolling news networks to be going so big on it seems overkill - all that talking. very. slowly. for. hours
  17. Yeah, to capture a global audience they need to hold the next one in a better time zone i like the little counter at the top of the news feeds - when it gets to 33/33 do we get a little http://www.ripten.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/achievement_unlocked1.jpg
  18. not deliberately word in mouth - sorry Yeah I thought spain, and read "one of the most secular populations in the world and a generation utterly uninterested in religion" as being about that... my bad
  19. To be fair Piers, the country you refer to has, like Ireland , not shed it?s religious past entirely http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/spain/4734734/Spain-prepares-to-fully-legalise-abortion.html I know plenty of secular irish people who, because they were brought up by de preests, unable to shed their teachings on this topic. For example
  20. I hear you DJ, but?. Are reversals always bad? It does sound as if previous agreements were hard-fought but were they correct (I mean what kind of split are we talking, and is it just people who showed up ? I don?t know, I?m genuinely asking) And even if it was correct then, can we not rethink, now that the school is there and reasses the requirments? Or mus we never change our minds? I know many people will adopt a ?no surrender? mentality and refuse point blank. And I?m not unthinkingly saying there definitely should be sports provisions regardless of anyones opinions But it?s hard to think what the nay-sayers are objecting to really. The area needs a new school. The locations seems sound. The problems about using the park (drainage etc) .. well? they aren?t insurmountable. Without the concessions a few years back (?ok we won?t use the Rye for sports?) the school probably wouldn?t have gone ahead . That doesn?t seem very useful to me No-one is proposing building a multistorey car-park on the Rye. It seems ludicrous to an objective observer that such a large piece of land can?t donate a fraction of the area to share with the school. Adding more traffic bussing the pupils elsewhere doesn?t seem to be solving any issues either
  21. but yeah, generally I wish people would just post as themselves
  22. I think Ted Max' character not only works, but surpasses most printed media
  23. cross-posted with James
  24. As someone who has no interest in this or any other school, and as someone who loves Peckham Rye, can I say that I have no problem with the school using the park as a sports field? Yes there are "challenges" but nothing that can't be sorted if the will is there. Most of what I've read is a lot of bluster. Well-intentioned maybe but it's another reminder why so few people can be arsed to get into the actual getting-hands-dirty-and-things-done business of politics. If james (or anyone else) spent EVERy minute of every day answering questions directly, he would still hae a lot of pissed-off people saying he nevergot back to them. There are only so many times he can answer a given question - you know his position from his posts on here so just deal with it If a section of the Rye is hived off for sports, we can agree that it will benefit the school and the pupils surely? and the rest of us? We'll be fine. No really, we will But man if I was a politician I would go nuts
  25. It's not a character that's working, is it?
