Would that I could! But it was the money that led them there... the "fashion" was a consequence

Money. Lots and lots of money

This thread shortly to be renamed "Guilty Pleasures" methinks Tillie - your anti-snob comment says it takes bravery to stand up to popular opinion but then you state that the popular opinion is against popular music... I'm confused! ;-) Music will always be the most entertainingly divisive issue though - but in a harmless way. A good song is a good song is a good song - be it obscure or popular. But popular doesn't necessarily equate to good surely? (hello Sun newspaper.. hello Every Thing I Do I Do It For You etc) As well as guilty pleasures can anyone come up with a song that EVERYONE likes? Anyone not like "Hey Ya"? f'rinstance?

Have to agree with most of what you say downsouth - but just so everyone is clear - the Lambeth commments written by dulwichmum: You are aware that dulwichmum writes a blog? and has a.... how best to phrase this... . range of opinions Have a look http://www.dulwichmum.blogspot.com/ You might notice what I mean by tongue-in-cheek... No need for anyone to feel disheartened (tu)

well intentioned or not

If I had to take a guess..... wouldn't it be great if there was more proper pub gigs these days. I know a few places to jazz and open-mic evenings but - you know - a proper sweaty rock bill with several acts

only from the people who in live IN West Dulwich Asset.... I don't see any ED'ers saying anything negative about WD - the West Dulwichites saying anything negative are also probably more qualifed than I to comment on the area itself. (had a quick re-read of that and it sounds a bit finger-wagging - didn't mean it that way but too tired to rephrase - soz!) For what it;s worth I sometimes pay a visit and find it perfectly ok - (if a lot less focused in terms of businesses) than many other areas Is it a heavy conversation? - I'm perfectly calm - just trying to redress any misconceptions. I agree with Tillie - this particular forum is well used to covering most of the surrounding areas. And with the exception of one or two pedants it all seems pretty tickety-boo

from, you know, the wiki place.... For many years, Clayton was the only bachelor member of U2. First, Bono married his high school sweetheart Alison Stewart. Then, The Edge married first Aislinn O'Sullivan, going through a stressful divorce during the recording of Achtung Baby, falling in love with and subsequently marrying Morleigh Steinberg, a choreographer and one of the dancers on the Zoo TV Tour. Mullen lives with his longtime girlfriend, Ann Acheson, and their three children. During the early 1990s, Clayton was involved in a relationship with and at one point engaged to British supermodel Naomi Campbell. More recently, he was engaged to marry Suzanne Smith, whom he was planning to marry in the summer of 2007, but broke up in February 2007[3].

Vietnamese Caf? (not) opening in October
SeanMacGabhann replied to bald marauder's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
not to mention veering off topic (ahem) what say we all head off to this vietnamese when it opens and enjoy ourselves -
tsk tsk - - the "whole" forum is an exaggeration surely and I've told you a million times... etc ;-) many a debate happens including the pros and cons of many areas but I haven't seen many "my area is better than yours ya boo sucks" - I'm happy to be quoted wrong tho (1 or 2 mentions don't count as the whole forum mind) Some people have expressed how grateful they are to be living somewhere they like as opposed to areas they have lived where they really really didn't like - I'm an example - East Ham v East Dulwich? Yes, I prefer East Dulwich. Don't think I've said anything prejudicial against any neighbouring areas around here tho

I can barely face my emails these days with the amount of spam - and that is using specially created email addressed which I never use on any website

Now that is the truth, Asset (even if it was Adam Clayton and not t'Edge) - but then he got out fairly sharpish didn't he?

Vietnamese Caf? (not) opening in October
SeanMacGabhann replied to bald marauder's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think so Asset - I could be wrong but I had a quick scoot via the search button and found plenty of solid posts from Jan but none on those lines... -
Ever keen to discern prejudice - I've re-read the thread again. And Huguenot's post aside I can see people wishing the West Dulwich forum well while at the same time expressing the concern there may not be enough activity to sustain it (a possibly fair point?) Interestingly the people who have expressed this view most strongly don't come from ED but live much more in the West Dulwich catchment. So I genuinely can't see any divisiveness I certainly don't see any competitive "our area is better than yours " type stuff going on

Abramovich's body language for the last 15 minutes was priceless... I await developments
-
I like Mamafeelgoods posts - just think that one missed the mark When you say "the other side" mlteenie, the other side of what? Tis you who mentions divisionist and then asks what's with the competition...? Having re-read the thread the only real sense of east v west dulwich is entirely tongue in cheek. Ok - in fairness one person confessed to being cynical (hi Huguenot!) - but then he was born that way. And in light of another recent thread about an ENTIRELY cynical forum starting up (the SE"" one) that may be justified... maybe But I think downsouth is genuine enough and wish him/her the best - no division there

jan t - many of us on here live up this end of the lane... It's not as pretty as Bellenden area but I think there is plenty community feel. My partner and I only have to ask Nisha in Val's grocer (opposite library) if the other half has been in, what did they buy and what did they forget - she always knows... You don't get that in rural Devon I tells thee -
Adrian "why oh why did I agree to do that daily show on BBC1" Chiles will indeed be hosting MoTD 2 later this evening Citizen...
-
Bit of a cynical post Mamafeelgood, no? These things do get (over) discussed but it ain't all (as you well KNOW) and as you are a pretty-much-seasoned-veteran on here now you a) know better b) can always add more content yourself As for the "how big can an ED ego get"? - You do "get" the Dulwichmum thing by now I take it? respectfully yours etc etc

* gasps at the audacity of anyone calling himself Nero (capped up!) having a pop at The Edge * * in a nice way of course *
