Hmm I hope this doesn't degenerate into another cars v non-cars thread, even tho my tuppence worth is.. Cars can be great, you can do things you can't do otherwise etc but: Mixulee your description sounds so like my life (in a previous lifetime - ie 10 years ago or so) but there are other ways and means of getting what you want without the hassle The elements of your story give the clues - other drivers, Sainsbury's, same road as butchers Now I don't know you but I live at the top end of LL so shopping for me means a hike down on my feet - I COULD drive if I wanted to by why would I want to. I envy your location.. same road as butchers! Why are you driving to Sainsbury's? You might have a very good reason or it might be just habit but if you don't want the hassles that go with driving (and any of us sat behind a wheel automatically think we are not "other drivers") - just wander down to the butchers, or SMB, or the Turkish veg shop opposite Black Cherry, or the one up NC Road and then wander back. job done You also mention "you don't want to endanger local trade" - which is odd considering you drive past local trade to get to Sainsbury's a couple of hundred yards away... As I say you may have a need to do this - but if we say 50% of the other drivers who needlessly drive up and down LL took a walk from time to time there would be no need for CPZs and you would have room to park where you like. But if you are choosing to do it because, and it is, a free world well so is everybody else with the attendant congestion that follows. You think it's bad now wait until another 10 thousand residents in the catchment area who are coming up to driving age buy cars... ad infinitum. So come on.... those of us who can leave they keys at home, let's -

ooh we loves a challenge By song lyrics do you mean a snippet/quotation from a song that stands out - or the full malarkey but just give top 10 song titles/artist? Am I overthinking?

showing my age Keef but I read that when it came out - I worked for a smaller company in Devon but it was in IT and it was on an industrial/office park on edge of town so I related to it ...

I used to love Pizza Express and unlike most I don't think they have gone downhill in recent years (overstretching the menu maybe) but I guess travelling more has made me less keen on knowing-what-im-going-to-get tied in with a vague uneasiness at central distribution type food and it's attendant transport issues Sandal-wearing concern I know - I'm guilty of it They are good with kids - too good maybe as I found out one quiet summers day, off work, with a friend.. went along mid afternoon thinking it would be empty but it was like a creche. couldn' hear a word we said. I'm not bemoaning children or parents or anything - it's just what it is

Agree with the trend on Banks' novels although I thought Garbdale was a big step in the right direction. Although I felt it suffered slightly by trying to hard to be back in "Crow Road" territory As for latest reads "Never let me go" by Kazuo Ishiguro and "This book will " oh can't quite remember the title. Fiction, empty lives in LA, white cover with fruit on the cover I think Very different books but both terrific reads

been there once for food, couple of years back, before current ownership and it wasn't hopeless but it was VERY pleased with itself, VERY expensive and the staff VERY unhelpful On the plus side we were sat outside on the rear veranda, the sun was shining and it was a fantastic evening which we couldn't have had anywhere else.. but we didn't rush back I can only agree on the whole about the Village eating choices - the worst has to be Piaf. I try once every year (for 6 years) endless promise of change/management change and yet it always remains poor from start to finish. Some places I go to despite knowing of long waits and inconsistent food because other things make up for it - know the staff, nice garden etc... this place has nothing The foot at the Dog has been spoken of already - but despite that I can still extract some value from it it Bella & Express - you know/knew what to expect (ditto rouge when it opens) If I was cynical I could say the eateries some up spme of the attitude I get from SE21 generally - overly pleased with itself, easily pleased by brands or happy to pay through the nose for something they don't understand ("if we don't cook it at home and it's ?25 then it MUST be good") But I'm not that cynical....

Piers I do fancy it but fear I may not be able to leave the house for another hour or two. Make sure you report on findings tho! -
I walk past there every day for work and concur with CC - not TOO far from the Globe either

Is it me or is it tense in here? - Raylon stationers

Karter methinks I gave the wrong impression - the service in quotes was meant to convey the LACK of service And I missed out a "they" in the last sentence - should have read "then they go and give it a bad name - bah" Didn't know the owners name but I can only agree it is one scary place. Thought it was just me the first time but it coincided with a new printer purchase so went back several times - but no more! -
Although to be fair I feel bad for talking about it behind his back. He has always been a fairly private person (from what I could tell of his press in the 90s) I know he is playing full gigs later this year with reformed HoL tho. I guess like a lot of his generation he found things outside raaawk to be more interesting (which means he clearly hasn't played Guitar Hero 2) Nice guy too

such "delights" were unavailable to the likes of DM & myself growing up as we did in a different country which took a dim view of such things

Mockney Piers has provided the extra clues that everyone needs. If people still want to know and can't google it by now...

Jimbo Thankfully no. But he was the lead singer in his band. And he's still shining on

I'm posting a lot more today than usual - and expected to have maybe one or two updates but people are post-happy My excuse is that I have a man (who used to be a 90s pop star) in to renovate my sash windows and am stuck in the back room with my laptop and bored brainless... where are the rest of you getting the time?

I got bored of typing in my previous response but that (Polly's comments around a plethora of similar oils etc) is EXACTLY what I wanted to say Im not saying I want to go back to the days of buying one type of Olive Oil over the counter at Boots, and hopefully they will retain the range but at the moment it shouldn't be high on their priorities Then again it is jammed every weekend so what do I know
