  1. If litter is your main concern, why not ban newspapers on trains too? In fact, let's just ban passengers.

  3. Nigello - I never suggested chucking litter on the floor was even remotely acceptable! But as others have said, if you have two appointments/engagements with little time in between then eating a sandwich on a train is a good solution. Some people are busier than others. Anyone who gets all flustered about other passengers eating cold food on the train has issues IMO.
  4. Life's just too short to worry about other people's kids - I spend enough time worrying about my own. Sometimes you see things which make you wince, but if no law's being broken, I ain't getting involved.
  5. I was actually reading a pro-hunting forum the other day (out of interest). One of them was defending that American b-list sleb who bagged a lion in South Africa. They justified it by saying that they give the meat to poor hungry African boys and girls. You couldn't make it up.
  6. Cookie Monster is good.. I like The Count from Sesame Street too. I even find myself laughing at the dad in Peppa Pig sometimes.

  9. Yeah if you want to be close to the station and lots of shops/pubs/etc then it's not really ideal. But then again you probably know that already, and that drawback is probably reflected in the price. If you don't mind longer (hilly!) walks and hopping on the bus, then I'm sure it will work out just fine. Good luck!
  10. Problem is that Aaron would probably need a cash injection to buy the stock... hence the search for investors. Have you considered Kickstarter or something like that?
  11. Was also wondering a similar thing bob... governments just spending time and money undoing things the previous government acheived. Seems wasteful, pointless, and petty. Just accept that society has moved on.
  12. I did get a good laugh out of the "Army kept me out of trouble" line. But laughs aside... the asshat should probably have his mouth stitched shut.
  13. Like cedges and panda said... sometimes you just need to eat on the go. Personally I try to avoid the bus, but I do eat on the train now and again. Can understand the dislike of particularly smelly or greasy food but maybe not practical to draw a distinction. BTW - completely agree that the egg lady is disgusting... well done for collecting evidence.

Well yes... there are certainly quite a few drivers who are just not interested on yielding to anyone and plough forwards regardless. I don't really drive all that often but when I do, that really really annoys me (much more so than volume of traffic). The standard of driving in Peckham is particularly poor.
  16. Tractorlad - yes totally agree that the road is too narrow and busy for double parking. I'd make one side double yellow, and make the parking metres on the side streets free for the first 20 mins or so.
  17. malumbu - on a similar note, Staples Corner.. named after the old Staples bed factory.
  18. I think Froch will retire soon... he's been banging on about "one last marquee fight" for ages but it isn't materialising. Golovkin is probably big enough to fight at SMW though... just about.
  19. The safety thing... I didn't want to bring up the lottery rapist incident because it's clearly an exception, but nevertheless it seems to me that these sorts of crimes are less likely to be committed by an Uber driver because of the greater traceability. Obviously black cabs are iconic, and they do have their place... they're convenient for toursists and business travellers I guess. But as a "local", I find it hard to think of a situation when there isn't a better alternative.
  20. DEFINITELY assume cyclists are idiots ;-)
  21. Yeah I was thinking along the same lines, Huggers. One of them has a cool little cafe in it, and a bizarre hipster hair salon.
  22. If you're really keen on a physical shop instead of an online or mobile store, maybe one of the arcades along Rye Lane. I admit they don't necessarily look all that inviting, but don't let that put you off. The units are small but I imagine they're pretty cheap.
  23. Well obviously if a driver sees a pedestrian on the road ahead they need to stop.. as you say, no brainer. But it sounds like some people are actually saying that instead of the traditional "stop, look, listen", pedestrians should do none of the above and just walk out into the road, because it's OK, drivers/cyclists can always slam on the brakes. Is that really what you think?

The Verge in particular had loads of new and smaller touring bands of the noisy rock/punk/indie variety.
