  2. I have probably fitted into all the groups at one point or another.
  3. Think that's a bit daft Nigello... who hasn't had a drink while looking after their kids, at family gatherings, summer barbecues, pub gardens, etc? I don't think one drink is going to make any difference to anything. I probably wouldn't do it myself in kids playground because it looks a bit skanky, but in principle I don't see the problem.
  4. Shame on you Ms Blueberry. You're not allowed to have an opinion if you've only lived here 5 years.
  5. "in Mediterranean countries rich and poor all eat real food"... remarks like this are becoming a bit of an EDF cliche...
  6. Sorry, thought you meant that all people in the countryside enjoyed killing stuff...
  7. I know Otta was joking, but I find it hard to tell with you, AM
  8. Do they even have Cafe Nero in the countryside?
  9. Any kid who's played with Meccano (or the good Lego) understands gears as you can see clearly in front of you what is happening with each cog. Should be compulsory!

  11. Good shout Fox. I went there the other week, and they wouldn't even accept my Southwark parking permit as ID! Luckily I had my drivers license with me. It's an excellent facility though, and I get an inexplicable enjoyment from driving up the ramp and throwing stuff down into the pits.

    CPR

I don't recall anyone claiming ED was some sort of special close-knit community. It may have a "community feel" thanks to a thriving high street and the occasional street party, but it's still London. Lots of people only stick around for a couple of years. Even the ones that stay longer often only get to know a handful of their neighbours. Your criticism is misguided.
  13. Partially agree RRR. The core range of frozen convenience food is crap of course, but "value" is subjective.. huge "deep-pan" pizzas for ?1, chicken curry for ?1.50, etc. It's not hard to see why people short on money and time would buy this stuff.

Sorry for your loss Simon, but the blame you are directing at the neighbours is misplaced and unfair.

    Pool Night

I'll join you and Otta for a pint! Will even have a game of pool, but I can't hit the ball straight and wouldn't expect to pocket a single ball. (is that the correct terminology?)

  19. Lots of people are busy, and end up picking up food in the evenings or on the way home from work. That's where somewhere like M&S will be pretty useful. Their meat is actually pretty good. Overpriced for sure, but where else are you going to buy an edible steak locally at 8pm? Things like pizzas, curries, etc... it's edible enough and a decent step up from the co-op or Iceland.
  20. Sue - quite obviously I have no problem with peace (or even meditation if that's your bag) but I do have a problem with people peddling rubbish, and the sheep-like, unquestioning nature of some people who seem to be attracted to these supposedly charistmatic people. No point discussing the pros and cons of the whole "spiritual" thing, since you're clearly more open to the idea than I am, and we won't change each others minds on that any time soon.
  21. Fox - I closed your italics tag for you (after a couple of attempts!) Yeah the "mr whippy" type stuff (made from water and powdered ice-cream mix) isn't exactly the best ice cream. But kids like it and it's not expensive. You can get it in purple sweet potato flavour in Japan.. yuck..
  22. You hate ice cream vans? What a killjoy!

Far from it. Just to be clear. Are we talking about this guy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prem_Rawat You're right, all sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
  24. Palace of Peace... gullible fools blindly following a religious cult... it sounds like everything that is wrong with the world.
