  1. Nunhead is an easy walk from the Goose Green area. Nothing wrong with a bit of variety. I think it was the Man of Kent where one of the regaulars propping up the bar said to me "there's no white wine here." Funny as we were there to watch the boxing and were drinking pints, and I wasn't even wearing my floral dress. Also funny, as they actually DID have white wine. Never felt the need to return.
  2. I have no beer at home. Might be time to tuck into the "Honey Rum" my brother brought back from Tenerife or (somewhere).

  4. I dunno Baggs... cash is helpful if you want to buy an ice cream.
  5. Think it's pretty obvious that it's not representative. It's comprised mainly of people with cushy office jobs. Or cushy "work-from-home" jobs. Anyone who actually has to work hard for a living (including the much maligned "yummy mummies") don't have time to spend on here.

    Greece...

You think the Greek people will be better off in the long term if the government defaults on their debt?

  8. It has - for a long time - been an attractive parade of shops, but businesses have sruggled a little bit. Really good to see it finally starting to fulfill its potential.
  9. The chippy, the Flying Pig, Cafe Aneto, and presumably the new ice cream place all use the outside space too..
  10. I agree the topography would be irrelevant if there were lots of local docking stations. I just meant it's one reason why you can't have isolated ones. Mind you, saw a couple of young lads on boris bikes outside the chicken shop on East Dulwich Rd last week, it didn't seem to put them off.
  11. You can't just have a bank of boris bikes with no others for miles around... would need to hit Camberwell first. Also Camberwell probably has the greater need, and as sandyman said, the local topography is more suitable. Brixton's another one which would undoubtedly get them first.
  12. Yep. I think people are often drawn to the UK when they have contacts or community ties here, and hope they will help them settle in and find work, etc. Also the perception of fair treatment and tolerance. And if they can already speak a smidgen of English, then that's another good reason.
  13. The Mayor of Calais thinks it's because of our benefits system, lack of ID cards, and ease of finding cash-in-hand work. She also thinks that we should open our borders and scrap border checks...
  14. How about small tapas-style plates, and sports on the big screen. New pub concept.

I'm going to stand up for fox here.. certainly don't agree with everything he says, but his posts have never seemed unpleasant or confrontational in any way. Just a guy who doesn't buy into the "zeitgeist" of newly affluent East Dulwich.
  16. Yes there is a distinction in Labour voters between educated liberal left and traditional working class, but probably incorrect to summarise this as London vs rest of the country.
  17. I have absolutely no interest in a pub full of lagered up blokes shouting at the TV. But nevertheless... I can't say that I'm overly excited about this "redcomb" bunch either.
  18. An important difference between Louisa and Bob... Bob ridicules the ridiculous. Louisa supplies the source material.
  19. It's a good character though...
  20. Yeah to be fair, *bob* is probably a made up character too... nobody could be such a sarcastic smart-ass in real life and not get beaten to death at some point.

Sundial Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > lets hope it turns into a sports bar What do you think the chances are? http://redcombpubs.co.uk/about-us/ "The template has always been the same; simple, honest, fresh food, well kept ales with friendly and engaging service, set in a stylish environment."
  22. Not much of a football fan, but nice to see the women's game slowly gaining momentum. Do they randomly roll around on the floor clutching their faces like the blokes do?
  23. Blah Blah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Economics isn't rocket science Jeremy. Really? Not sure I agree with this implication that economics is simple and straightforward. And while I could potentially find myself mentally nodding along with much of what Ms Church had to say, there was some pretty stupid stuff in there too (maybe the bits where she veered away from the script?)
  24. That's alright then.
