  1. My only concern would be for the chap who runs the Barry Rd convenience store, who has done a great job of building his business and customer base... but won't be able to compete with a Tesco/Sainsburys/etc.
  2. Yep there are already 4/5 storey period buildings around there... a five storey newbuild will probably be lower than those.

  4. I more-or-less agree with the article... but I don't necessarily think you need to stick to Giraffe/Pizza Hut/etc as long as you take the child outside when they have the inevitable tantrum. For instance- we took our daughter to one of the fancy steak places in town when she was around one year old. She loved it and the staff made a real fuss over her. When they've had enough, take a gulp of wine, give them a hug, and go for a walk.
  5. Those crazy young kids who like to go to more than one pub - sometimes on THE SAME NIGHT!!

Any other city commuters notice the juggler on London Bridge this morning? He started shouting at the passers-by at one point... "What you lookin' at? It's called f***in' trying! I've been up since 6am too you know!"

Maybe not as bad with other manufacturers who might perform more dilligent testing before deploying to older devices.

  9. Didn't even stop? FFS....
  10. There are plenty of other examples where rules/laws are in place for a good reason, but nevertheless you would expect the police to show reasonable discretion/tolerance. I don't see why parking should be different - apart from the fact that it's been turned into a business. But I'm not going to try to argue with you BNG as you've already set your stall out. I strongly disagree with the zero tolerance/discretion approach, or ticketing targets. You apparently feel otherwise. Fine.
  11. The problem is that parking contractors are not actually interested in preventing obstructions - they're interested in issuing tickets. If someone is unloading or dropping someone off, they would rather issue a penalty than ask the driver to move on (in fact, the latter could lead to the warden losing their job). Wardens have quotas to meet, which leads to predatory tactics (e.g. counting down the seconds until the restriction window starts) to catch people out. The objective is revenue, not public service. Cue the usual high-and-mighty, anti-motorist "just don't break the rules" posts. But meanwhile, in real life, shit happens. Wardens should be using judgement as to whether a ticket really is warranted.
  12. How much dough do they knead to cough up?
  13. Don't be so grumpy! Everyone looks happier in the sunshine, and everywhere looks nicer. Beers outside after work. Surf-and-turf on the barbie. Kids playing in the paddling pool. What the hell is borage - and who cares? Caravans? Must be a Norfolk thing...

  15. Salsaboy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I had an Android tablet that just got slower and slower. Yep... that definitely happens a lot with the cheaper ones. I'd hope that an upmarket one like a Galaxy would last a bit better, but they all grind to a halt in the end.
  16. Yep, pretty sure the Galaxy tab has a memory card slot. Nexus/Hudl etc are budget models, very much horses for courses.
  17. Taking up every few boards and laying rockwool seems reasonable to me... it doesn't need to be airtight! Like when you put on a coat on a cold day... it might be warmer if you were in a sealed spacesuit from head to toe, but it still does the job.
  18. Doesn't make much sense to me, plenty of dodgy areas in North London too.

Deliveroo is a great idea, but it can work out expensive! I did enjoy the BurgerBear burgers, but with the Deliveroo charge and a small tip, you're probably going to spend around ?30 for two people (and the "large" fries were far too small). Still, it's nice to have a few options other than curry/pizza.
  20. rahrahrah - I thought people were complaining about kids in pubs during the day? I don't remember ever seeing children in a pub at night! Fox - yeah I don't think many families go to the EDT, I don't really think they're primarily aimed at that market. Like you say.. it's a bit pubby.
  21. If only we had a third party who represent those of us who support a market economy, but are liberal minded, and supportive of a welfare state and social justice... wouldn't that be nice...
  22. Yep.. for me, Blair's labour were probably the closest we've had to the kind of government I'd like to see, but the Iraq war (and not forgetting the whole crazy "God told me to invade Iraq" episode) annihilated his legacy.

Bloody Australians! You lot always find something about the UK to complain about!
  24. If people considered Ed "too anti-business", then god knows what they'll make of this guy. It doesn't make any sense to take the party too far to the left... you might please a relatively small number of people, but all you're really doing is leaving the centrists no viable alternative from the tories.
  25. It was fair enough for the OP to point it out, but we could do without the conspiracy theories and fictional proper nouns.
