    a joke

  2. From the linked blog post: This desecration was done Friday, 10 July 2015 ... The council is removing gravestones to sell off the plots. Where the headstones will go, we don?t know. What is driving this abomination, we don?t know.
  3. Le Moulin was about as French as Dulwich Tandoori.

  5. Dildo necklaces aren't romantic? Really? Even on a nice gold plated chain?

    Greece...

Blah Blah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I believe she is genuinely trying to save Greece from the abyss. If she is, she's gone about it a strange way. By agreeing on a "haircut" months ago, Germany could have given Greece a fighting chance of recovery while still repaying a large chunk of their debt. But by trying to force Greece into austerity measures, she has caused widespread resentment, destabilisation of the union, radicalisation of Greek parliament... AND Germany still aren't going to get paid in full. Lose lose.
  7. Bristol... don't really like it. The university area and Clifton are alright, but the main city centre is horrid. Bath is very nice though, and I dare say could be considered "romantic". I used to live near Winchester too, and it's nice, but very small. You'll soon run out of things to see/do. But you could maybe combine it with Salisbury or New Forest. Or even... Basingstoke! As someone else said, York is quite nice.. lots to see, lots of nice pubs.

  9. Think of someone who has stopped posting recently...
  10. Can always rely in good ol fazer to exaggerate the situation beyond all recognition!
  11. Anything ending in "ery", e.g. "The Butchery".
  12. Nope, I think there have been material falls in price for high end properties in Belgravia, Kensington, etc.

    Greece...

Yep... doesn't say much about the "union" when the wealthy partners are using strong-arm tactics to force austerity on the poorer ones.

  15. If it's just a discrete camera then it seems a bit mean spiritied to charge other residents an annual fee. But if they want to install various bits of gear inside the house too, then that's a bit different.
  16. Has anyone had a simple cellar "conversion" done? I mean basic tanking, plastering, flooring, electrics, and proper stairs. No digging out, windows, plumbing, etc. Would just be used for storage, maybe an extra fridge/freezer, etc. Interested to know how big the job is and what to expect cost-wise. Not looking for builders at the moment.
  17. Probably wise. Get out with lots of money, and your brain in one piece.
  18. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cockroaches are extremely successful as a species - that's a kind of intelligence perhaps. I'd disagree... evolution has given them instincts and physical characteristics needed to thrive, but I don't see how that could be interpreted as intelligence.
  19. Does it actually have a name? Or would that detract from the minimalist chic? ETA - Sorry... just saw post above... "Fabulous Ice Fires".
  20. Walked by the new ice cream place - looks like some kind of upmarket cosmetics shop. Odd. Look forward to trying the ice cream though.
  21. The "encephalization quotient" is a widely accepted way of estimating an animal's intelligence. So dog, cat, horse in order of decreasing intelligence (or increasing stupidity). But it's pretty close. This (along with Louisa's insightful comment) got me wondering if we should be eating only big and stupid animals? Looks like there is a very good case for crocodile meat.

Assuming that this was a bullfight - I would agree that it's barbaric, cruel and tasteless. But to say that the spectators deserve to die is just plain moronic.
  23. I think Loz's example is basically there. A month on month loss is a distinct possibility for many landlords. Bear in mind that after fees/maintenance/etc the chances are (in London anyway) that your current monthly profit is already tiny. It's not a red herring at all, BB. Yes you could potentially describe it as "profit" if you think the value will rise, but this isn't guaranteed and is of course subject to CGT. Not many private landlords would be willing to take on this kind of risk, so will have to sell. Let's hope they don't all try to dump their proprties at the same time!
  24. Before they broke London Bridge, the national rail trains were every 10 minutes, which for me is basically a turn-up-and-go service. Pretty much as frequent as some of the tube lines. The overground (at least from DH/PR) is only every 15 minutes, which I think is disappointingly infrequent... but then it's a shared line, so maybe as good as we can expect.
  25. If there are two main categories of thread: "glorious reviews, adverts, and informative happy to read", and "utter rubbish and waffle"... I know which one this falls into.
