  1. What Nigello said. This isn't an expensive bar/restaurant/shop catering to the privileged. Everyone will be free to use it.
  2. All you can ask is that the project tries in earnest to reach out to the whole community. After that - if people are interested (or not) it's up to them.

The first e is silent in my book. It's "om-let". Not "om - mel - let".
  5. The deaths are a terrible shame, but if you decide to take risks with powerful, aggressive animals then these things are going to happen. It is not a complete shock.
  6. Our next door neighbours' parents (rural types) are house sitting for them. Was chatting to them yesterday and they thought it was absolutely hilarious that we were going out for breakfast. "What's wrong with your kitchen?" they asked in disbelief. Caught up with them later in the day, "How was your breakfast?," the guy howled.
  7. Both Pedler and Toasted do an awesome brunch. The options at Toasted are a bit "lighter", I guess in line with the overall style of food (they don't have a full gut-buster fry-up on the menu like Pedler do) but I love them both. Andersons on Bellenden Rd also continue their weekend brunch into the afternoon. The cooked breakfast is basically scrambled eggs with a choice of various additions (bacon/salmon/avocado/etc). And a couple of other options like french toast, yoghurt with berries.. and grapefruit served with granita is an interesting one.

  9. Sorry Fox - final paragraph wasn't really aimed at you, more generally the type of people moaning about kids in pubs. First 2 paragraphs were in response to you, though.
  10. Of course spending all day in the pub getting drunk with bored kids in tow would be terrible parenting. But I don't know anyone who does that - and if I did, I'd probably try to un-know them pretty sharpish. Sunday lunch in the pub with the family should be a fun occasion for everyone. Go to the park first and let them burn off the surplus energy and work up an appetite. Don't drink too much. Bring some toys/colouring/books/etc so they don't get bored. If they start crying/screaming take them outside. Why on earth would anyone have a problem with that? If you want to get pissed and shout and swear with your boozy pals, pick an appropriate pub (or area of the pub), or just wait until the evening. And stop moaning.
  11. Fox... what a thoroughly unpleasant thing to say. People usually just take their kids to pubs because its an informal environment to get an affordable lunch for the family. Not to get drunk.
  12. Corbyn has spoken about a "planned economy" on several occasions.
  13. For me Ed Miliband was a modern Social Democrat, progressive but also pragmatic and fiscally responsible. A moderate centrist compared to the right-of-centre Blair. I quite liked him. Unfortunately he suffered slightly on the personality front.
  14. I'm a 'no'... but still a 10 minute walk to the EDT so don't really feel I've left it behind..
  15. Rahrah... no I don't think he is a communist. I think you are getting yourself quite confused.
  16. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Since when does Corbyn not believe in a market economy. What tosh. Find me a quote which suggests that he does.
  17. Indeed.
  18. Well.. I'm anti-war and anti-austerity, but at the same time believe in a capitalist/market economy. Corbyn doesn't represent my views any more than Cameron does.. who the hell would there be left for people like me to vote for? I hope Corbyn doesn't get in, but it's starting to look inevitable.
  19. Well religion is in sharp decline in the UK according to the census. Between 2001 and 2011, the number of people in the UK with no religious beliefs rose from around 15% to around 25%.
  20. Sounds awful. Best wishes to your friend Fox, hope she makes a full recovery.
  21. Yes it does affect the mortgage - but some lenders will be OK with it if there is documented evidence that it's being treated, and it's not too close to the house. Personally it wouldn't bother me as a buyer. The stuff is treatable with off-the-shelf weedkiller, you just need to be thorough and persistent, and after 2-3 yrs it will be gone.

  23. The re-introduction of clause four is a bit worrying for me. Perhaps in practise Corbyn just envisages renationalistion of key infrastructure rather than moving towards socialism proper, but it certainly isn't something I'd want in the manifesto of any British government. Could a Corbyn victory help to revitalise the Lib Dems?
  24. Somebody on here must be in need of some holiday money! Agree a rate between you and cut out the middleman.
