  1. Think you're being rather na?ve, Blah. The antisocial/illegal aspect of it is part of the appeal. Anything that engages young people is to be welcomed? ANYTHING?
  2. So.. can any of you do this?
  3. It's a useful route for getting to Waterloo or Kennington... completely bypassing Brixton to get onto the A23 (you can't turn right from Camberwell New Rd onto Kennington Park Rd). Would have to either find a rat run or get stuck in the Brixton one-way system for 15 mins. No skin off my nose (I rarely drive in that direction these days) but there are people whose livelihoods depend on being able to get round London. Nevertheless I do see the plus side.. LJ is not the most pleasant of areas, I'm sure anything which makes it a nicer place to live will be welcomed by the locals.
  4. Jeremy Bates.
  5. Franklins isn't cheap though, is it? Not been to The Lordship.
  6. Good food, and cheap? Franco Manca is the only place I can think of.
  7. What sort of uses could the empty levels be put to? I'd be interested to know. Is it feasible to convert some of it to "conventional" buildings/units? Workshop/studio space? Karting track, anybody? Alternative theatre space? Real-life "escape the room" games? Urban minigolf? Five-a-side pitches? It's a big chunk of land, and it clearly needs to be used for more than just the cinema and a seasonal bar. Also... am I the only one who thinks the art installations are crap? Or am I just uncultured and ignorant?
  8. There's a guy who sometimes advertises on here.. he takes large items away (breaking them up if necessary), and uses an MPV so can just use the regular domestic tip. A good service for people who don't have cars.. think of it as a minicab for your rubbish. Will try to dig out the details.
  9. Probably won't reduce traffic though, just lead to heavier traffic along nearby roads (both main and residential).
  10. I'm certainly not a supporter of his economic policies, but it's a bit tiresome that the media are up in arms every time he says something. It is just cheap sensationalism, and gets in the way of sensible/balanced discussion. But you think the "right wing and centrist media" are afraid of him? The Labour party are the only ones who really seem afraid.
  11. Saw a couple of bikes (dirt bike type things) bombing down East Dulwich Rd at 4:30ish. No helmets. Floored it straight through the red lights. Helicopter circling overhead...
  12. Kris Akabusi was better.
  13. Well... I said it is "conventionally" used at the grass roots level. But it has changed over the years and there's now loads of remix/bootleg/etc type stuff on there.
  14. Most of this is personal taste. BUT - IMO wood worktops look great at first, but always a bit ropey a few years down the line - especially around the sink. White Corian will stain really badly. Some kind of granite or composite quartz would be my choice. - Built-in, raised cookers are much more practical if you have young kids around the place. Also nice not having to bend down to get stuff in and out. And because you have a separate hob/oven, cheaper to replace if something goes wrong.
  15. These people are only "huge" if you listen to certain radio stations, certain TV channels/shows, etc. To the rest of us they barely exist.
  16. Swap the cats for a pair of alsatians?
  17. Not sure why it's not practical, they do it in India. (although admittedly the problem there is on a different level). TBH I have no idea why this whole thing is so controversial... he only said he'd do it if women wanted it...
  18. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I was wondering what that said about Soundcloud > and its direction/user group as compared to Spotify for example Otta Wrote: probably because soundcloud has a lot of independent artists. This. Soundcloud is conventionally a service for those at the "grassroots" level of music, whereas Spotify is more geared towards the relatively mainstream.
  19. Hardly heard of any of the first list, but that's not a surprise. Maroon 5 being number 1 on YouTube IS a big surprise though. It's the kind of MOR music my Dad would listen to(probably).
  20. Liz - IMO that is a totally unreasonable criticism. We're talking about a proposed recreational space, open to everyone. Why don't YOU think of something the whole community can enjoy. And then actually put the hard work into making it happen...
  21. Even better than spraying is to cut the stems and fill them with a concentrated glyphosate solution (if the stems are thick enough). Then spray the ones which are too small to fill/inject.
  22. I guess the cycling aspect of it needs some careful thought. I'm not sure cyclists and pedestrians are a great combination.
  23. Are you sure the Brick House don't want these customers? Surely it's up to them. There are ways they could dissuade laptops if they wanted to... e.g. limit wifi to 30 mins per person, not provide power points, etc. I think a better tactic would be to speak with the manager(s) and let them decide if they want to take action or not.
