  1. There's one at the end of Bellenden Rd, so not too far away. I'm not sure why they want to move upmarket. Surely their selling point is precisely the fact that they're cheap and simple. Tesco and Morrisons are really struggling precisely because shoppers are either looking for a buget option, or higher end. The middle ground is being squeezed.
  2. TBH ?7 for a pint with a simple bowl of pasta and some ice cream sounds aright to me...
  3. Otta - depends on the cut innit. Maybe around ?20 for a sirloin, ?25 for a ribeye?
  4. If by "the likes of me" you mean people who don't enjoy restaurants... you're probably right!
  5. You'd certainly hope that a more expensive steak is better than a cheap one! You can sometimes get a cheaper cut (bavette, flatiron, onglet) etc for ?12-?15 and it can be good, but it ain't gonna be the same as a nice ribeye from Hawksmoor, is it?
  6. I imagine that the "restaurant" area is the area where you can take the kids. If that area isn't very busy, perhaps a re-shuffle is needed.
  7. Andersons on Bellenden Rd sometimes open in the evening and do a "steak frites"... worth checking out.
  8. How does "Give Me The Moonlight - Frankie Vaughan" follow on from "Tokyo Storm Warning - Elvis Costello"? Think we need to back it up a couple of places.
  9. Tokyo Storm Warning - Elvis Costello
  10. Bit harsh robbin. IMO the thread has been quite an eye-opener, I had no idea fraudulent withdrawals could be made so easily.
  11. What's so funny about peace love and understanding - Elvis Costello
  12. Have you tried rigging the scaffolding with tactical explosives?
  13. You will need a buy-to-let mortgage - which usually involves a fairly large deposit. The fact that you don't already own a property will probably not make any difference. Would also add that it might be quite hard to make a rental property in London pay for itself if you need to take out a large mortgage on it. Especially after the tax relief on interest repayments change.
  14. Firstly - simonethebeaver is right, it's a very unusual lease, usually all major works such as roof or strucutral problems would be shared. Secondly - you should probably go straight to your buildings insurance (i.e. the shared policy between you and the other flat). They will appoint someone to investigate the issue. I don't see the need for a third party survey.
  15. DaveR Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Save the cinema" would be better Yep the cinema is the main thing I'm concerned about - would be awful for Peckham if we lost that. Franks... it has grown on me over time, but eventually the novelty of trudging through a piss-drenched multi-storey to drink crap beer will wear off. If we had some firm proposals for using the rest of the space in ways which are interesting/creative (and with financial backing) then I'd be more sympathetic.
  16. Worth a visit for Lahore Kebab House though...

  18. Well, of course everyone thinks the area they moved to is the bees knees... goes without saying.
  19. Yeah loads of nice houses in Brockley, and in places it is very leafy and pleasant indeed. But feel it lacks a proper "centre".. which is why I'd personally prefer Forest Hill even if it meant a smaller place. Each to their own innit.

    Question

Persians? Those fluffy things with the squashy faces? I've never trusted them.

    Question

Is "Amish" different to "Asian" then? (or is it just a type of Asian, like "Arab"?) Are Amish people Muslim too? I should probably find out - wouldn't want to cause offence.
  22. CM - is Brockley more expensive than Forest Hill then? I would have thought FH was the much nicer of the two..
  23. The "x-thousand dead after being declared fit to work" thing is a great example of awful reporting. The kind of thing trotted out by people who have no grasp of statistics. For instance - how many claimants in total were declared fit to work in the same period? What would be the expected mortality rate for people across that age group? You can't claim there's correlation unless you have all the relevant data.

    Question

Tarot, there's this new Asian lad just started working in my office. He has a beard and refuses to come out for a beer after work. Do you think this is worth reporting as a potential terrosist infiltrator?
  25. Yeah from the video, I'd say these are young adults old enough to take responsibility for their own actions. Let's not pretend that riding your motorbike through the park and evading arrest is a reasonable reaction to the lack of a motorbike scrambling course... Besides, what you're describing Blah is more of a rural pursuit, not something you'd expect to find in inner London.
