Yep, the location next to Canavans is problematic. It wouldn't be at all fair if Canavans were booted out as a result. If they're talking about developing the basement of the property, perhaps Canavan's could relocate down there? That might solve the noise issues!

As for wearing heels - that's a choice. It doesn't mean you deserve special treatment. I don't think many jobs specifically require high heels.

I have no problem with the kind of generic anglicised Indian food these restaurant along LL serve. In fact I often like it a lot. Just don't think we need so many, doing very similar food. Ganapati - I remember going to the restaurant five or six years ago and feeling it was really mediocre. Tough meat, lacking flavour, and not worth the money. But since the takeaway opened we've been using it regularly and we've always loved it (and we're definitely not small eaters!). The menu does vary, maybe they don't always get it right? Dishoom is fun, but I'd be happy with proper, simple home-cooked-style regional Indian or Bangladeshi food. If it was done well it would leave the other LL curry houses for dust.

Yes the restaurants may well be a bit different and people have their preferences, but they are essentially offering the same menu straight out of 1985.

I sympathise with the OP. Perhaps you need to get yourself down to the gym and get in shape. Update your wardrobe and get a nice haircut, maybe take more time on your makeup in the morning. I'm sure you've got it in you to bag a nice husband with a good job.

No through route at Loughborough Junction

Of course there should be a barrier. Current setup stinks of a revenue generator. -
Well, the combo of a cheaper mains powered hammer drill and a smaller-but-better drill/driver works for me. In fact I've had my ?40 Bosch hammer drill for 15 years, and it's seen a lot of use (ask my neighbours). I won't hear a word against it!

Just a wish...(there was a baby/pram/child free pub in ED)
Jeremy replied to bermygirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For me drinking is usually an evening pursuit anyway. Like mickmac says, all pubs are kid free in the evening. As for fazer's comment... if the licensee really is fed up with kids in the pub then it's easy enough for them to ban them. Except they don't want to miss out on the family lunchtime trade. Well boo hoo. -
I think you really need two drills - a smaller cordless drill for screwdriving and drilling wood. And a corded hammer drill for masonry. If you're anything like me the smaller drill will end up getting used much more, so go for something decent, preferably with two batteries. I'd fork out a little extra for something good like a Makita, DeWalt, or Hitachi. Then for the hammer drill, something mid-range like Bosch or Black & Decker at around the ?40 mark should do the job.

You're allowed to say it, in fact it's a common theme... anyone who doesn't live in ED seems to think that their area is better. Whether it's Peckham or Penge, or even rural Kent. One of those things that it's impossible to view objectively, I think.

MM - I was addressing Ridgley's comment more than I was addressing your OP. While due to the nature of the sites I think it's reasonable to *expect* people to behave differently.. that doesn't mean that this can/should be shomehow enforced.

I can imagine a dollop of brown sauce might work, but not baked beans. Unless you're a student.

Or turn off wifi between 12 and 2. Or take away the power outlets. It's up to the businesses to set their own policy. Who are we to say what is good for them? Maybe they find laptop workers an overall boost to business, maybe they find them a massive pain, who knows?

Naming and shaming local businesses... Right or Wrong...

I've heard a similar thing... a local restauranteur told me that when he speaks with new local business owners, he advises them to steer clear, because it's full of nutters, moaners, and self-proclaimed experts. No good can come from getting involved. However - I think if a business provide a quality product/service, and reasonable value for money then they shouldn't need to worry about a few people moaning or talking shite. If you've got it right then the praise should outweigh the negativity. -
Problem for me is that the Tories will be free to expand upon their (fairly far-right) economic policies without credible opposition.

The co-op is terrible.

Not quite.. the "hot stuff" comment was on Facebook. The difference supposedly being that FB is social an LI is professional.. but it seems like a shaky argument to me. The whole thing is daft.

Shame. I was looking forward to the mayoral election debates.

Of all the things that go on every day on social media... harassment, bullying, racism, inciting hatred and violence, religious extremism, suicide pacts, child abusers... and THIS is front page news... crazy. He was in the wrong of course, but it's been blown out of all proportion.

I thought Sol Campbell was going to be the Tory candidate! What happened?
