  1. bubble... you need to understand that a cup of artisanal flat white made with beans from a single estate is not the top priority here. And while perhaps a small independent coffee shop might appreciate the custom outside of peak hours, there's also a danger that by you'd be taking up valuable space and hurting their business.
  2. Went to one or two, but found I just spent most of my time talking to the one or two people I already knew. It's not really my natural environment...
  3. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > piercing recorder "playing" from someone who couldn't play it. Bloody children, trying to learn musical instruments! Whatever next? ;-)
  4. I've just registered... the registration process seemed to work, so next time I need an appointment will try online.
  5. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Which to me begs the question why > didn't the police just take her sooner? Ideally there'd be some degree of communication between the police force and the ambulance service, so they'd know approximately how long the ambulance would be (and elevate priority if necessary). But I guess this isn't the case... hard to make a call when you're in the dark.
  6. Glad I don't live in Germany then! Sunday is surely THE day for getting odd jobs done. I can mow the lawn (and strim the edges) at 6:30am on Monday morning if you prefer..
  7. Oh I'm sure the system has it's faults, but I still think it's unwise to jump to conclusions.
  8. I felt physically ill when I read about this yesterday. Never ceases to shock, how some people are capable of such disgusting behaviour. Quite possible that it was treated as a low priority because the caller didn't convey the full details. Wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions regarging the ambulance service.
  9. I was in the middle of my lunch... Not so hungry now.
  10. Nightingale Lane / Wandsworth Bridge / North End Rd sounds like one to try. TBH doubt it will make much overall difference, but at least it seems to avoid the usual choke points. Croydon/M25 sounds far-fetched... surely it's going to take 40 mins in clear traffic just to get onto M25 jn7.
  11. You put nuts in your coffee? Is that the latest thing?
  12. Well yeah... if you want drinkable coffee with almost zero effort then it's great. But if you're "into" coffee, grinding beans, and all that malarkey then you already know it's not for you.
  13. I also go via Cheyne Walk and Earls Court. Really don't think there's much alternative. You could try to pick out a rat run from the river to the A4 in South Kensington, but I wouldn't fancy it without a navigator. Heading out west through South London would mean going via the dreaded Wandsworth, so that's no good either.
  14. TJ Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > the developers are often running a pretty tight ship in terms of profit Is this really true? Would have to question this statement. I think there's a lot of money to be had in property development.

Driver's licence is fine, yes. They will also accept a utility bill... which is stupid because it could belong to one of your mates, or fished out of somebody's recycling bin. A parking permit is a far better form of proof, yet they will not accept it.
  16. James - would it be possible to approve plans with the condition that the offices cannot be changed to residential within the first e.g. ten years?
  17. I don't think phobic was criticizing others, just saying that he was the first to think about warning the tenants upstairs.

  19. I like my Nespresso machine... only use it on weekends so the cost of the capsules (30p each) is not a problem for me. I have a basic "pixie" machine and it's fine if there's just one or two of you. Less cleaning than a regular espresso machine, which suits me. The aeroccino makes really good "velvety" frothed milk, but if you're not bothered about foam, just heat your milk in the microwave or whatever.
  20. Well... I had a tumour when I was a child, and the NHS treatment probably saved my life too. But to be blunt, this is missing the point. Just because we benefitted from life saving/prolonging treatment doesn't automatically make our system better than other western european countries.
  21. Nice work phobic3000! Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Maybe someone panicked and used the wrong extinguisher? Yeah sounds like that could be the case...

I understand why they are doing this, but the fact that they don't accept Southwark parking permits (for those of us living in Peckham, Camberwell, etc) is really daft.
  23. Yep, FM seems like an intelligent and community-minded guy. I just happen to disagree with him on this issue.
  24. Next time someone threatens you for money, why not ask them back to your place for a chat and a brew?
