We've got one of those ones which senses movement, and an alarm goes off if there hasn't been any movement in a few seconds. The downside is if you pick up the baby to comfort them, you need to remember to turn the thing off first, otherwise the bloody thing starts beeping loudly. So I'm on the fence about this feature. I can see how video could be useful, because sometimes they can end up in an awkward position (e.g. on their tummy, or with the legs caught in the bars of the cot) and they won't go back to sleep until you straighten them out. But I think it's a convenience rather than a necessity.

Sorry to hear this, jgray923 and Huggers. If it's a couple of kids you might be tempted to fight or run... but once you see a knife unfortunately you have no real choice but to hand your stuff over. Even if they're not intending to use it, adrenalin will be pumping through their body (and maybe other chemicals too) and they might do something stupid if they feel provoked. Money, bank cards, phones can be replaced.

Yeah it's a stereotype that young girls go for all this fairytale princess stuff, while boys like spaceships and laser guns and fighting. But there's clearly some truth to it. It's a nature vs nurture debate I suppose, and while plenty of people would claim it's a result of conditioning by society, I don't think it's that simple...

I don't really understand why people shouldn't turn their front garden into a driveway. As long as they only have one car per household, and appropriate drainage/surfacing is used to reduce runoff.

I think we established long ago how annoying and antisocial it is for a woman not only to have a child, but then have the nerve to occasionally leave her home. And then, worst of all, sometimes actually talk about her child.

Do people actually travel into ED to go out? Other than people who live nearby, or have friends here or whatever? Seems odd if they do.

KICC encourage the congregation to pray for wealth - people go there because they think the church can make them rich, or at least solve their money problems. Now, while I think that people can believe whatever they like, that doesn't mean I approve of quacks preying on the vulnerable or giving them false hope. But that's the tip of the iceberg. Look up the chuch's leader, Matthew Ashimolowo. He has paid himself hundreds of thousands of pounds out of the church's "charities" (in addition to the six figure salary he draws), as well as cyphoning money into his other business interests. The man is a crook. The church is a fraud.

I think you're wrong there, SJ. My understanding is that the congregation often travel some distance to these "specialist" churches.

The first wave has taken me by surprise, admittedly. But with hindight, it shouldn't have done. But actual proper gentrification... some way off, if it ever happens at all.

To be fair I'd probably rarely (if ever) use it myself whatever it becomes. But good luck to anyone who's willing to take that site on...

I think the Odeon is actually over a tenner a ticket... very similar price to Picturehouse. AND Picturehouse won't try to charge you more for a comfier seat in a better position.
