  1. Surely only a matter of time before American English takes over the English speaking world. Pride can only keep practicality at bay for so long. Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You want to try being a computer programmer I always wondered what it must be like being a non-english speaking programmer. All keywords and library classes/methods being in a foreign language must put you at a disadvantage!
  2. Maybe. But the strange looks from fellow gym members are priceless.

    Pop ups....

Bit of both, I'd say. It makes perfect sense to make use of retail/commercial space which is "between tenants" for whatever reason. But I'm pretty sure that all this street food and pop-up business is a fad (albeit a fun one) which is bound to fade away at some point. There certainly seems to be quite a bit of it in Peckham right now.
  4. Thirded (does an exercise bike count?)
  5. Robert Poste's Child Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > People crossing the road without looking. Afraid to say I've been guilty of this one in the past. Quickly scanning the road and not noticing an approaching cyclist. But I think (hopefully) I've learned my lesson... before both me and an unsuspecting cyclist end up in a heap on the road...
  6. I can't help thinking that either side could end the violence if they wanted to by rising above the belligerent "tit-for-tat" mentality. I know things are rarely that simple, but I'm just not quite sure why...
  7. A bit of improvisation never hurt anyone. I was much more alarmed by the thought of Jah bothering the school gates...
  8. NewDad Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There remains a massive demand/supply imbalance Sure, there is demand... but is there demand for ordinary houses in ordinary neighbourhoods with asking prices of ?1M? Is there demand for 1 bed flats in scruffy areas priced at ?300K?
  9. It's still lagging behind Peckham a bit, but might catch up if this hotel thing takes off.
  10. Mustard Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > too top heavy That's the problem with all these houses in ED that have had the two room loft conversion. You're still left with 700sqft of living space and a small garden.
  11. Surely nobody actually believes that Picturehouse are really that different from any other cinema chain? Just because they occasionally cater to a wannabe highbrow audience with a ballet broadcast, or indie documentary about lesbians in Israel doesn't make them radical or progressive. If you want to boycott them because they don't pay their staff enough then great, but I hope you've done your homework about every other business you use.
  12. KFH have previous regarding over-valuing (to get it on their books) and then dropping the price before their lock-in period ends. Although I think you're right about the madness coming to an end.
  13. Sounds easy then.
  14. I guess you'd assume any cracks would have been stitched as part of the original remedial work, therefore any large cracks which have not been stitched could be assumed to be "new" and evidence of ongoing movement.
  15. Was the coin held up in the air somehow, or lying on the floor?

    The Dog

The venue at the back of the half moon was a good space... but the pub itself has/had a terrible layout.

Grrrrr. Well in south London plenty of drivers seem to think that when there's only enough room for one car, the best solution is to drive straight at you and honk (or open the window and shout) if you don't get the fuck out of their way. I'll take your lack of acknowledgement any day. (btw... do you get much anti-English hassle in Ireland? Maybe speaking in a comedy Spanish accent might help?)

    The Dog

It's not scruffy or rowdy at all.
  22. People who don't hold the door open, or don't say thanks when you've held it open for them. Happens all the time at work. Mainly continental European types...
  23. People that lean against the door on the tube. Surely we've all felt the train grind to a halt, and heard *that* announcement enough times, to know that you shouldn't do it! And then not moving after the announcement because they're listening to sodding ibiza "headkandi" shite at full volume and are oblivious to other people.
  24. Yeah nice irony from Lowlander!
