  1. People want food, that's basically what it comes down to. Trying to appeal to some London wide network of camra beardies doesn't sound like a great business plan to me.
  2. I bought in ED when I was 25. Yeah there are more lively places in London, but they were/are all more expensive.
  3. Bob Mould is still knocking out some good stuff. Like you say, depends what you're looking for. I'm not that interested in technical players - or any sort of musical virtuosity. But someone who can wrench a new sound out of the guitar and write some cool tunes in the process gets my vote. Doug Martsch from Built To Spill would be another. But if we're talking about the traditional guitar heroes, Slash is hard to argue against for pure melodic quality.
  4. I think the delivery hours look reasonable, and in line with what people should expect if they live in close proximity to a high street. I sympathise with the concerns about parking, but it does seem at odds with the local residents objections to a CPZ.
  5. It's effectively an identical proposal, but with modified servicing hours.
  6. They used to be a daily occurrence when I lived on Crystal Palace Rd. Along with the huge mounds of horse shit!
  7. Well yeah obviously... so how about city hall building homes directly? Perhaps with a five year restriction on resale and renting.
  8. I guess they mainly interviewed people from north and west london! To be honest most of east london (anything east of canary wharf and hackney) seems to be pretty grim and scruffy, with property prices to match. And the majority of SE London is just characterless and unloveable IMO, with a few exceptions.
  9. Thomas Calton on corner of Choumert Grove/Road. Yeah... but it looks like the old school on Bellenden Rd is being turned back into a school, so not sure whether there's a need for another new school so close..
  10. As I said earlier, yes we need supply, but the right type of properties at the right price. We don't need over-priced/boutique/luxury flats with all mod cons for 500K each (which is what we'd get at that site). We need modest properties which are within reach of first time buyers... 200K-300K. The problem is, that's not what developers want to build.
  11. It's inner(ish) London, it's going to be hard to find a site with large open spaces for children to play and do PE. The hospital site would have been good, but unfortuately that didn't work out. So what are the realistic alternatives?
  12. Sam Smiths pubs are fine with me. I quite like their wheat bear (and in a hushed voice... I like their cherry beer too...)
  13. I used to go there to use the tip. West Dulwich has been dead to me since. Except as a useful cut-through to Streatham.
  14. miga, I think it's a chicken-and-egg situation. More skilled graduates would stay in those areas if there were good employment prospects, and more companies would set up shop if there were more skilled candidates around.
  15. Phil & Kirsty and an estate agent? Scraping the barrel...
  16. I don't really buy it. Expanding on your IT example... the main problem for companies outside of London/SE is finding skilled employees. I highly doubt that competing with public sector salaries is an issue.
  17. It's one of those situations where you can't just leave the market to sort itself out. To address the supply/demand issue, we need the right sort of properties, at the right price, in the right areas. Not just high-spec apartments marketed to overseas investors and junior city traders.
  18. Maybe not her real name...
  19. Property investment is very common in China/HK - not just amongst professional investors or HNWI, it's not uncommon for middle earning professionals to invest in overseas property. But surely there are other factors here? Not least that London seems to be continually increasing its economic dominance over the rest of the UK.
  20. How about the zombies on bikes who stray out of cycle lanes in order to overtake slower moving zombies. Luckily my can horn is loud enough for them to hear. Or maybe we can just accept that there are plenty idiots on foot, bike, and car? And that to keep safe you just have to learn to expect these things...
  21. I think that more than ever, a lot of local estate agents are really taking the piss, i.e. 3 bed houses in SE15 in uninhabitable condition, with ludicrous asking prices which they will surely never acheive. Just because some smug git with gelled hair says that your house is worth a million, you shouldn't necessarily believe it. It's not indicative of the wider London property market, which is currently increasing at around 11% year-on-year.
  22. Potential future tenants are not relevant to planning applications as far as I know.
  23. http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=9553324 They're still pushing for a rear extension. Documents haven't been added yet, so hard to say what's different about the latest application.
  24. Yeah I think prices of flats didn't really go anywhere for a long time, then started shooting up about a year ago.
  25. We have the same problem. There are recycling facilities at the back of the sainsburys car park. Also a few recycling bins in the choumert road car park. For non recyclable stuff you can take it to the tip, or if you don't have a car, pay someone to do it for you.
