  1. "first world problems" is the most pointless expression imaginable. We live in the first world, hence a first world problem is a problem. It is a tautology. And it is bloody annoying. Saying that, I use the station every day and have never noticed these kids. Or the giant hair balls that people keep complaining about.
  2. Overall the train works OK for me... ED is not particularly well connected, but Peckham Rye is better. Camberwell and Walworth is the real black spot.
  3. Comments take a while to get published on there... maybe wait a while longer before putting on your tin foil hats.
  4. I think I know what cle mean by the "different demographic" remark, in that it seems to be used more for local journeys than daily commuters. Lots of school kids, people travelling to stations, shoppers, local work places, etc. Although of course some commuters do use it, it's not for me - journey time (for my journey) is much faster by train/tube, and I don't like the unpredictable nature of bus journeys.
  5. What are you gonna have in there?? Drums? 4x12 guitar cabs? Hope you're not moving to my street!
  6. They are still every 10 minutes. At least they are when I get them (morning and evening commutes). Maybe you're talking about a different time of day to me.

    Rye Lane

TBH the most useful shops for miles around recently for me have been Mothercare, Boots, Argos on Rye Lane. LL has some nice shops for sure, but Rye Lane wins hands down for actual useful stuff.
  8. How about replacing the curtains with a thicker (and longer) pair? TBH I've recorded a lot of vocals in a single-glazed room, and I don't think it will be a big issue unless there's a lot of traffic noise, or you're recording acapella vocals.
  9. That's just not true, they are still every 10 mins in morning/evening rush hour and every 15 mins in the evenings. But yes of course the weekend service is abysmal and we're all sick of the bloody rail replacement bus service. But that's not the same as "the net gain is nought".
  10. Pacman/Bradley winner should of course face Mayweather, but seems unlikely to happen with this Top Rank/Golden Boy feud going on.
  11. The number of trains HAS gone up... the train-every-ten-minutes rush hour service we have now is a big improvement to the service we used to have. The evening frequency was also doubled a couple of years ago.

I think that crystal ball of yours is getting a bit ahead of itself... I don't think LL is the target for chains that some people seem to think. The units are small, and the area is not well connected. LL will probably get an M&S and a couple of other things at some point, but it's not about to become overrun with Topshop and Nandos.
  13. The big blockbusters are still surely the bread and butter of the Picturehouse cinemas... foreign and indie stuff must make up only a small portion of their revenue, but are important to the brand.
  14. Mayweather beats either of them with ease, it's probably just a case of who made more sense financially. Khan was an idiot for backing out of the Devon Alexander fight, it was a winnable fight that could have boosted his credibility after his recent unconvincing form.
  15. Elevated karting track. Slow drivers forbidden.
  16. Hopefully they can both co-exist. I like Peckhamplex... could use a bit of a clean and I know the area around it is not very inviting at night. But they'll benefit greatly from the plans to develop the station area and the multi-storey.
  17. I guess the big difference with the overground is that the OG is a 4-times-per-hour service which shares track with national rail. That made the extension feasible, as the amount of new track was fairly small. Even though the Bakerloo uses a full gauge track, the frequency would make it impossible to share with other rail services.
  18. Ots - it's a decent size, two screens should be doable.
  19. Could the sound be coming through a shared chimney? Soundproofing the walls is a big job, and expensive. And you'll lose a few cm of room space. Basically, not viable in your situation.
  20. Most of the long term derelict properties I can think of - 2 large houses on Crystal Palace Rd, the old 60s/70s block on the corner of Pytchley/Bromar Rd, corner of East Dulwich Rd/Melbourne Grove, are now being redeveloped. The council flats above the costcutter opposite ED station (part of the DKH estate) are still empty though. Not sure what development (if any) is currently planned there.

East Dulwich was no posher than peckham until quite recently, so whoever told you that is obviously talking out of their arse!
  22. Apparently if an extension was to happen, camberwell and peckham is not even the favoured route.

    House v flat

1000 sq ft flats are fairly rare round here though. Given that most converted flats in London are basically half a terraced house, surely its not at all strange to want the whole house... with 3-4 bedrooms and a private garden... rather than just half of it.

    House v flat

Flats above shops aren't such a great investment (for the reasons Townleygreen suggests). Also large flats without a garden are quite tough to sell on for a decent price.
  25. Well the Savoy and the Wardorf are just round the corner...
