  2. Have used air bnb for two trips, fine both times. As for the issue of illegally sub-letting in NY... surely it's the landlord who's taking the gamble, not you!
  3. Again... cost/benefit balance. Hydrogen from rubbish? Can't see that making a dent in our electricity supply/consumption.
  4. Surely that is already one line of investigation being followed up. I like the theory that the Chinese accidentally shot it down believing it to be hostile, and then covered up the evidence. Total nonsense of course, but would make a good movie opening sequence.
  5. Yeah not sure why I got involved in that one... should know better by now...
  6. Yeah, we all know what it's like when you're angry at someone and want to lay into them a bit. But you know... have a go at him because he's a dick, not because of the way he looks...
  7. Maglev? Not sure that would stand up to a cost/benefit analysis! The Chinese are very fond of their status symbols.... Just because newer/whizzier technologies exist, doesn't mean more traditional methods are outdated. Bicycles didn't become outdated when the motorbike came along (and countless other analogies).
  8. Ots, there's a car hire place in Forest Hill. That's just about the only local one I know of. Otherwise it would probably be a train/taxi to somewhere in SW London to pick one up there.
  9. Please... resident ghostbusters... don't treat this psychology research work as evidence of the supernatural.
  10. I've also been frustrated by apparently empty buses (usually when I'm stuck behind one!)... but you have to trust that TfL have guys working on this who know a little about bus scheduling and routing than you and I. The idea of reducing the number of routes (therefore forcing people to make more changes) seems like a bad idea to me... more people getting on and off at each stop would lead to lengthier stops, therefore more delays on the road for everyone.
  11. mischief... did you get the callback? (and were you given a more specific time rather than just "late afternoon"? Half an hour on hold followed by a promise of a callback at an unspecified time wouldn't impress me enough to write positive feedback. Nevertheless I hope that everything went well and your optimism was well-founded.

These are people who have invested money in their businesses, taken a punt in an area which is a bit rough round the edges, and helped make Peckham a more desirable and interesting place to live. Now they've done their job, they should be kicked out? To be replaced by Network rail's plans for "artisan studios"? No... could hardly disagree with your opinion more.
  13. Spotify rips off artists... not nearly as bad as p2p sharing which was the norm before it came along.
  14. Yep, would be good if the station redevelopment encouraged a wider range of businesses in Peckham. It's just the "bulldoze the butchers and hairdressers" posts which annoy me a bit.

    craft beer

"Many of these new ales are CAMRA-approved"... therefore he is mainly talking about real ale, surely? He just comes across as a guy who knows what he likes and likes what he knows. Which is fine, until you try to pass it off as journalism...

Completely ill informed article... I guarantee you that the beers he's talking about are real ales.
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong buddug... was it you who managed to extract a voucher from sainsburys as compensation for your time when you returned an item? Then when you returned the replacement item, thought it outrageous that they wouldn't do it again?
  18. I really don't think that's very likely, Huggers. Unless they're the worst thieves in the world.
  19. Paul Young did a book signing in my office last year. It wasn't very popular... the poor guy looked a bit embarrassed just standing behind his table like that. A few weeks later, "celebrity" chef Gino D'Acampo - the man who burgled Paul Young's house 15 years ago - did a book signing. Highly popular with a long queue.
  20. Sarcastic comments aside - sorry to hear about your car KK, that kind of thing is a real pain in the ass. Some guy rammed into the back of my car a few years ago... he was very nice about it, but totally uninsured and soon disappeared without a trace. Turned out he was a notorious drug manufacturer (think a mix of Walter White and The Dude from the Big Lebowski).
  21. Not sure it's fair to call either band "manufactured"... I think most of the pistols members hung around in the same circles and sort of came together naturally. Even if their image was undeniably contrived.
  22. Yeah I was zero years old in 76... so no experience of the cultural phenomenon. But that's not really what I'm talking about, and besides, maybe that makes my opinion more objective. Sex Pistols (to me) seem naive, and only political in a sort of broad anti-establishment way. Clash lyrics were a bit more intelligent, articulate and politically meaningful.

  24. I'm sure the beauty pageant finanlist will be glad to know that the resident stalker thinks she looks "ok".
