  1. Exactly... Khan's problem is defence, not punch resistance. Wonder if Virgil Hunter will have managed to tighten that up at all?
  2. Didn't Khan cancel his fight against Devon Alexander because there was a chance he might land a Mayweather fight this year and he wanted to ensure he was available? Sounds crazy, cancelling a meaningful and (hopefully) competitive fight with one where he's almost bound to be outclassed. But it shows just how lucrative the fight is. We need to see a Bradley vs Pacquiao rematch, with the winner facing Mayweather. Not looking likely, though.
  3. To say it's never bothered me would be an understatement! I hardly ever notice it (and until recently I lived right next to Copleston Rd). Maybe after living in South London for 15 years I've learned to filter out background noise.
  4. The landloard understandably took exception when a member of a band called The Tuts brought their own bottle of vodka to drink on stage. But he handled it badly and tried to physically eject her, which obviously didn't go down well. I don't think the stage is that small, I've played on there as part of a seven piece and it was OK.
  5. Delays on the return journey are currently the rule rather than the exception, in my epxerience. The lack of information (and incorrect info on the departure board) make it worse.
  6. It is a great venue - because of the bands they've had on, not because of the place itself. Which has improved in recent years, but is still a bit 'rustic' with an awkward layout. I've seen some really memorable gigs there... Boards of Canada, Shonen Knife (set of Ramones covers), J Church, Frank Turner.. even played there a few times myself over the years. There really are surprisingly few established venues in London for underground or up-and-coming bands. Heard some stories about the landlord, but never met him or experienced his moodiness first hand.
  7. ellieaness - sorry that you feel wronged, but I'm sure you can understand why some people thought it was an odd question. Perhaps you can ask if anyone can lend you a saw (or even help you cut it up?) Maybe let us know what road you're on, and the chances are that a local saw owner will be reading. Then you can just chuck the pieces in the bin.
  8. Good stuff. Is Clarkshaws beer available in in bottles? There's also The Brick Brewery in Peckham, just started production a few weeks back.
  9. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Nige is generally quite likeable. I don't know why, but I find him seriously creepy..
  10. He is pretty annoying, isn't he? The loft apartment with the drum kit and endless supply of great mates His Jamie's America series, when he insisted on calling everyone "brother" The budget cookbook, with ingredients including "leftover roast lamb", and half a salmon Although I think he's done commendable work with Fifteen and the school dinners thing, it's never done without a large dose of self promotion.
  11. Beer (Brockely, Brixton, Bermondsey) Gin (Peckham) Bread (East Dulwich) Along with the aforementioned cheese and jam, I reckon that's just about all you need.
  12. A Filmed Experiment on Telephone Telepathy with the Nolan Sisters .. "By chance, about 25% of the guesses would have been correct... We conducted 12 trials in which the participant and her callers were 1 km apart. Six out of 12 guesses (50%) were correct. " Exactly what reputable peers agreed that a set of 12 (TWELVE!!!) trials is adequate?
  13. "My research on telepathy in animals, summarized in my book Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home" ... Surely only a matter of time before this becomes an essential text in schools and universities around the world...
  14. Quantum mechanics - there is evidence to back up the theory. Observations under lab conditions. Not really comparable to psychic dogs or haunted buildings, is it?
  15. I think it's OK... if you're out and about on a Saturday it's nice to grab a bite to eat along there. It is what it is.
  16. I've hardly heard of any of the Guardian list. Any I don't think I've actually heard any of them. Unfortunately I rarely actively seek out new music these days. I don't mind what I've heard of Chvrches, mind. And I hate hate hate Haim... Shania Twain meets Fleetwood Mac... it has no place in the 21st Century.
  17. I reckon an actual woman coming into the house and standing at the foot of the bed is a lot more likely than a ghost...
  18. Each to their own FJD, glad you're happy there.
  19. > Prof Wolpert claimed that telepathy did not exist. He provided no evidence for this opinion Surely if there is something which has no evidence, and has no rational scientific basis, then it's quite reasonable to say that it doesn't exist. We can't provide hard evidence against the tooth fairy either, that doesn't mean there's a serious debate to be had. I mean, do you remain open-minded about every single ludicrous suggestion out there, from L. Ron Hubbard's accounts of the Galactic Confederacy, to flying spaghetti monsters, to Nessy? Where/what is Sheldrake's evidence?
  20. Brendan, hope life is treating you well. Loz... W13... how could you?
  21. I think so, fabfor. Would you rather expand on it... e.g. "no conclusive evidence in the public domain"?
  22. Did you keep the receipt? If you're not planning on going back soon, maybe you could return it by post and they could refund your credit card?
  23. If *Bob* was your uncle, he wouldn't give you sweets. He'd just come round every now and then and make really sarcastic remarks. For instance... "A lady, you say? In old fashioned clothing? Why didn't you say so earlier? Case closed!"
  24. Decathlon is good, I'll grant you. The cinema is also OK (Europe's first fully digital multi screen cinema, fact fans). But the shopping mall... eurgh.
