  1. I think we can all agree that there has been academic research on the subject, which has yielded no positive results. I think we can also agree that El Pibe's argument, if it were intended to disprove all paranormal observations (which it wasn't), would constitute a faulty generalisation. We're still left with anecdotes vs grounded cynicism...
  2. Almost as grim as Surrey Quays itself.
  3. People can believe whatever they want for all I care, but what are these "facts"? Surely there's no evidence either way, only personal accounts.
  4. People are saying that we don't know everything about the universe... but surely the human mind is much more of an unknown quantity.
  5. Convex Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > not to mention the scrum to get onto platform 13 It actually strikes me as pretty dangerous, the way people cram onto that platform. Far too narrow for the number of people.
  6. Yeah true... but all digital pianos will have weighted keys and touch sensitivity, otherwise they wouldn't be able to call it a digital piano! (even childrens home keyboards have touch response once you get to around the ?150 mark)
  7. I didn't realise it had closed either. Never nice to see a business fail - despite their history with the forum.
  8. * a struggle ensues as Jeremy attempts to throttle lane lover *
  9. Next time someone says "first world problem" to my face, I'm going to bloody strangle them.
  10. The friend knew Japanese, did she? Flat earth? Actually there are people out there that still believe in that, too. Along with witchcraft. And magic potions. And ghosts. Listen, people can believe what they want... I'm not telling you not to believe something. I'm just saying that I don't, and never will...
  11. Yes I did look at it.. I still think you're confusing the pychology of paranormal beliefs, with study of actual paranormal phenomenon. They're not starting from a baseline of assuming these things are real, or even trying to prove that they are. And even if a bunch of academics were open minded about ghosts and ghouls, why does that mean I should also be? After all, plenty of people study theology at University.. and even homeopathy...

The super rich don't need to work (but may choose to do so in order to increase their wealth/power/influence). They certainly don't live in terrace houses in SE London and catch the number 40 every morning.
  14. Yeah you do need to be pretty careful because they don't check the cars in detail, and after sales service is non existent. So avoid anything with high mileage, ex fleet cars, or anything made by Fiat/Alfa/Peugeot/Vauxhall/etc. But they are cheap... chances are that you'll save enough money to get most faults sorted out.

DC - I remember being taught this using Parker pens as example... they reduced the price of their basic range, and sales plummeted. They were forced to abandon the line and introduce a new, more expensive entry level model. Anyway... looking forward to trying The Patch.
  17. Sue, I think you're getting confused between the study of paranormal beliefs, and study of paranormal phenomenon.
  18. To be honest I have no problem with spiritualists either. If people are convinced that there are ghosts in their house, then they can probably also satisfy themselves that the ghostbusters have caught the blighters. Fine. At the end of the day, if there was anything to all this garbage... anything at all... there would be some plausible evidence. But there is none.
  19. Think the OP was looking for someone to play a reinterpretation of the original 90s tracks. Think 'I can move any mountain' played on an acoustic guitar. Think you'd be lucky to find someone who can learn a whole set list just for one gig, but maybe there's a fan of the genre listening who's into the idea...

I don't think so... before you sacrifice one thing to make room for another, you have to decide what's more important. I did not think this meeting was sufficiently worthwhile to leave work early. Especially when all I'd have to contribute would be "the waiting list is too long".

  24. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No Jeremy..Read all my posts Was being a bit facetious, but my point stands. The prospects of long term growth look bleak. Whether drip feeding funds reduces the volatility is debatable... and arguably pointless when volatility is the only real reason I can think of for investing in the FTSE. Still - it beats moving to Penge I guess.
