  2. Bob is an enigma, that's for sure! Maybe it's no coincidence that the posters we like the most have actual real life friends, and therefore no need to socialise with other forumites...

You may have some valid points Sue, but you've made them time and time again (along with the inevitable Ivy House comparisons). It's a bit much. Obviously the whole community/kickstarter thing didn't work out for them, but they've not given up, and they raised the money privately. Someone's obviously risking a lot with this venture, so let's not give them such a hard time. Frankly, staying clear of this whole mess of a thread is probably the most dignified response.
  4. Thirded, I like the shop too... sells loads of stuff, and stocks an above-average beer selection. Stupid new name, but it does look smarter. General Store... only actually been in once. It's just too damn expensive.

Damn our western culture... programming us to enjoy food which tastes good...
  6. Yeah they really will need to be a bit cheaper than the restaurant for it to work.
  7. 500K for a terraced house is still a lot of money, even if it's 50% less than ED.
  8. He was a bit of a lean LHW wasn't he... I mean, muscular, but not as bulky as some of the other guys. He probably feels like there is less talent at CW, so an easier route to a title. And he may be right, I guess. But it's a double edged sword... very few big, marketable fights out there at CW.

I remember James bringing it up now and again. To be fair I can kind of understand it, as it must be frustrating going to a restaurant and having just the one option. A bit of debate now and then keeps the forum interesting, but... sorry James I think you're being a little confrontational here.
  11. Yeah I reckon I'll be up for that.
  12. EDT, Franklins, Thai Corner, Tandoori Nights, Le Chardon, Blue Mountain, etc were all there in the early 2000s. It had a nice feel to it (and it still does, but in a different way). Never came here pre 2000, but have friends who had a student house in ED and they reckon it was a bit shit. But in places like Sydenham, you still need a fair wad of cash to buy a house these days... if people have the money to eat out frequently and buy expensive junk, maybe businesses will spring up to meet the demand.

I never called you an extremist, I respect vegetarians actually. But you are in the minority. Your example would only be analagous if squash was a daily staple for the majority of the population, and I had decided for personal reasons not to eat it. I'd probably be a bit fed up, but it would have been something I'd considered when making the choice to live a squash-free lifestyle.

  18. Maybe I'm just making this up, but aren't the fees for a late license supposed to go towards policing, street cleaning, etc? If so, Otta's suggestion makes sense.

Prices at The Patch seem fairly similar to Palmerston/Franklins/Toasted/Crooked Well to me. Really don't understand what all the fuss is about. None of us have tasted their food, so have absolutely no idea if it's priced accordingly. (and lunch at Gordon Ramsay is ?55, no matter what the stubborn old fox claims)

But it is not a fact. You cannot eat there for ?41. Not even close. Even if you have the set lunch with nothing to drink. You didn't even try to verify your information, and used it to undermine a local business. Which hasn't even opened yet. I know you have this grumpy forum persona, etc... but that's really bad form.
  21. Opening up the front of the station will make a huge difference... IMO it is definitely needed. But I'm rather uneasy at the idea of booting out established businesses.

The whole launch seems to have been a little shambolic, but some people have constantly been on their case, criticising at every corner. It's a bit much. Wait until it's open and judge for yourself. Or if it's out of your budget then so be it (may sound harsh but there are surely hundreds of restaurants in London which charge these prices).
