PeckhamRose - interesting point about pedestrians also needing to be more careful, in reality this seems likely to be a much more significant factor. But not really possible to enforce. I don't oppose this proposal as such, but building a couple more crossings on LL would probably be more effective than reducing the speed limit.

Chances are it's an organised scam...

Interesting theory Huguenot. I think you've over-estimated the improvement in "link time", as traffic lights and roundabouts would probably require the same amount of waiting. I don't for a second believe it would speed up the journey, but broadly speaking I don't think it would significantly slow down a typical 3 mile journey around the Dulwich area.

Seems like a great idea for side roads. Not sure I would want a 20mph limit on Old Kent Road or Walworth road though.

Yes, they've been empty for several years. They lowered the price a few times, but they just wouldn't shift. I don't mind the building too much, but it is an acquired taste. The rooms are strange shapes, and apparently the finish is poor. I don't think they're on the market any more, perhaps the developer has gone into administration?

Steve - interesting spin on things, but it wasn't really the domestic mortgage market which caused the financial crisis. And as Magpie says, if you gave the money directly to the public, it would basically be a one-off injection into the economy, rather than a long term investment.

Nothing wrong with the word 'normal'. After all, this is not, by any stretch, a traditional family unit. I don't know anyone who was brought up by two female-to-male transexuals. I have no problem with the situation - but to play devil's advocate - it would be simplistic to think that the family won't face particular challenges that most others won't.

puzzled - "pitbull" is frequently used as a pseudonym for bull breeds. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitbull. So you may have to forgive those who are not au fait with the technically correct terms! I think it depends where you live. In some areas the bull breeds certainly seem to be the most common type of dog, and they often tend to be owned by the type of people who really shouldn't own any dog at all.
