It's not ideal, but I guess it's realistic. I'm sure it would cost a fortune to roll them out across all bus stops, and to repair them every time they get smashed up.
  2. suburb
  3. PeckhamRose - interesting point about pedestrians also needing to be more careful, in reality this seems likely to be a much more significant factor. But not really possible to enforce. I don't oppose this proposal as such, but building a couple more crossings on LL would probably be more effective than reducing the speed limit.
  4. Chances are it's an organised scam...

I noticed this in NY, and also Barcelona. The major difference is that these places have a grid system. The roads in London are much more jumbled up.
  6. The ski cross was awesome! Actually it's probably less dangerous than the downhill events, as they're not going anywhere near as fast. Oh and jimmy two times... beginners ski-jump ramps are much, much smaller...
  7. Interesting theory Huguenot. I think you've over-estimated the improvement in "link time", as traffic lights and roundabouts would probably require the same amount of waiting. I don't for a second believe it would speed up the journey, but broadly speaking I don't think it would significantly slow down a typical 3 mile journey around the Dulwich area.
  8. Seems like a great idea for side roads. Not sure I would want a 20mph limit on Old Kent Road or Walworth road though.

  10. Tim - this sounds like a really terrible thing to happen. Financially, if you're only after the costs of the (NHS) dental bill, then I'd say you were right to make a claim. If so, good luck with it.
  11. Yes, they've been empty for several years. They lowered the price a few times, but they just wouldn't shift. I don't mind the building too much, but it is an acquired taste. The rooms are strange shapes, and apparently the finish is poor. I don't think they're on the market any more, perhaps the developer has gone into administration?
  12. Sounds like you've landed on your feet there, scott. Looking forward to checking out the new pubs.
  13. I think you're over-analysing it, Huguenot. They're in high demand, fetch good money, and are easy to steal.
  14. Last time I went to the Omrith, they gave me a glace cherry on top of my curry. Not sure if I'm going to bother returning...
  15. jimmy two times Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm confused. The woman behind the check out in Sainsburys called me 'love' today. Good point. Plenty of women call men "love", "darling", etc. I don't think it's a sexist thing, just a common turn of phrase in some circles. I can kind of see Sue's point, but sometimes you just need to take things in the manner they were intended.

  17. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Isn't the Florence part of some massive chain?? It's part of the Capital Pub Company, as is the Bishop. Not a massive chain, but not exactly indie either. Not sure whether these pubs were always part of the group, or whether they did a deal with that Scott chap...

  19. That seems a bit optimistic! I thought Si Mangia was pretty run-of-the-mill. And although I used to be a fan of Omrith, last time I went the food was really bad. And the interior is shite. Still... Sea Cow do a decent fish & chips.
  20. Oh... I suppose the disruption may explain why the 7:50 from ED stopped at all stations, and was half empty...
  21. Froch/Kessler is going to be a cracker! I fancy Abraham to win the tournament though...
  22. Steve - interesting spin on things, but it wasn't really the domestic mortgage market which caused the financial crisis. And as Magpie says, if you gave the money directly to the public, it would basically be a one-off injection into the economy, rather than a long term investment.
  23. Pearson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > why on earth did you not make it a condition > of the loan that no bonuses should be paid until > said loan is paid off!! Because RBS (now a public "asset") would be left without any traders. Nice idea though.
  24. Nothing wrong with the word 'normal'. After all, this is not, by any stretch, a traditional family unit. I don't know anyone who was brought up by two female-to-male transexuals. I have no problem with the situation - but to play devil's advocate - it would be simplistic to think that the family won't face particular challenges that most others won't.
  25. puzzled - "pitbull" is frequently used as a pseudonym for bull breeds. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitbull. So you may have to forgive those who are not au fait with the technically correct terms! I think it depends where you live. In some areas the bull breeds certainly seem to be the most common type of dog, and they often tend to be owned by the type of people who really shouldn't own any dog at all.
