  1. Good point highlighted by EDOldie and FoodStories... a given dish is never going to be identical any two times, and also we all have different taste. Neither's opinion of the dish or the restaurant is wrong!
  2. Hi neighbour #2! I was wondering why they changed the white boards on the corner - shame it didn't really help, but I suppose it's nice to know that they listened to your concerns. Good news that the new plans have been approved, I think we'd all rather have a new building and some new neighbours rather than a horrid derelict building. We definitely need some traffic calming measures, cars occasionally drive through that junction at stupid speeds. (Also think I need double glazing at the front of the house to keep out the sounds of all those enormous sub-woofers which people like to install in their clapped out Ford Fiestas).
  3. I wonder if Wlad will fight Valuev instead... seeing as his fight was cancelled too? It would make sense (mind you... the obvious matches rarely get made in boxing these days).
  4. You could call it "The Merideth". Hang some eccentric lampshades and mirrors in there. Del-boy wallpaper on one wall. Art donated by Camberwell students. Perhaps some continental lager on tap, such as Budvar or Perroni. Maybe do some "more fancy than average pub" food such as "tuna steak with wasabi veloute" or "poussin avec beurre noisette". It will go down a treat.
  5. Will - I'm a fan of the Palmerston and I'm glad you posted to put your point across! However, what's the problem with people posting photos? Is there actually a legal issue here? I ask because my girlfriend often takes photos of grub in restaurants, now and again puts them online. And the camera never lies... so what's the issue?
  6. Well, the chap from the council told me they didn't have a buyer yet. Although it is possible he was making it up on the spot! I'm keen for them to do something with it, as it's right opposite my house. Since when were we not allowed to demolish a building just because of pigeons? When mice or squirrels are nesting in a property people they get exterminated, not sure why pigeons should be different!
  7. To be honest it wasn't very popular, it would often look pretty empty as far as I could tell. Personally I wasn't very impressed with the food when I tried it. Although the garden was nice on a sunny evening.
  8. Happy To Be Sad - Bracket
  9. The flats on the corner are derelict and bricked up. The council are trying to sell the site to a developer, apparently there are plans for a mixture of townhouses and flats - according to the guy from the council who knocked on my door a couple of months ago.

I believe this is a legal requirement. I'm sure if they could stay open 24/7 they would.

The Nunhead "primary residence" thing was unforgivable. But the porn movie thing... a ?5 expense which was probably sumbitted without her knowledge... I felt pretty sorry for her.
  12. Yep, the 1/3 bottles are a good idea... particularly if you want to try different wine with different courses!
  13. Yep... FoodStories, I hope nobody has offended you, and that you continue posting on here!
  14. Louisiana - at first I thought you were just a bit arrogant. Now I think you're a sandwich short of a picnic.
  15. At least you never feel crushed or devalued at the Palmerston.
  16. Louisiana - I go to plenty of restaurants, thanks for your concern all the same. If you don't agree with me, that's fine - I'm just putting my point of view across. My opinion is just as relevant as yours. Just because it is different, does not mean it is wrong. I think you are being a bit more rude than necessary here.
  17. There is no easy way. I can't think of any reasonable route avoiding Clapham and Wandsworth, although I would suggest cutting down to Wandsworth Road/Lavender Hill asap, avoiding the Clapham Common one-way system. After Wandsworth I'd get on the A3 and then drive through Kingston, instead of going through Richmond.
  18. Hey Louisiana, you know what, I've never actually been to the Harvester! I am guessing it is cheap and nasty. Am I wrong? I'm not arguing about it... if you don't like that Palmerston then that's fine with me. I just thought I'd pipe in to provide some balance to the thread, because I really like their food and think the prices are fair.
  19. I've eaten at Arbutus too, I agree it's very good. I still think that realistically you're going to pay an extra ?15 or so at Arbutus... dishes are maybe ?2 more expensive, house wine is a couple of quid more, service charge is 15% instead of 10%. It all adds up. But yeah, I guess it's in the same ball-park costwise.
  20. I am obviously missing a trick! What are the recommendations for a really good 3-course meal for two - for ?80, including house wine and service charge. And don't say Le Moulin, please.
  21. Strangely enough, I've heard quite a few global warming sceptics recently. I agree with what Louisiana said, organisations with vested interests are prepared to pump lots of money into research, trying to debunk the whole thing. But despite this, their position is still in the minority. Given that the sceptics are going against the mainstream of the scientific community - and that their views are potentially immeasurably destructive - surely the emphasis should be on them to present the evidence to support *their* case?

But I can see you mind spend around ?80 if you have desserts and coffee. Maybe ?100 if you'd had dessert wine, port or whatever. I also disagree that the price is up there with just about "anywhere in London you'd care to try out", ?80 is really not expensive for a decent meal these days.
  23. I think the food is very nice, and not particularly expensive. The wine is also good value by restaurant standards. I think last time I went there, we had two courses each and a bottle of house wine, bill came to something like ?55-?60. Yes it's more expensive than the Harvester, but you get what you pay for.
  24. silverfox - what a bizarre post, I'm not sure how your conspicracy/big brother paranoia is related to a trashy TV talent show. I don't know why you're such a fan of Susan Boyle... singers of that ilk really are ten-a-penny.
