  1. Can anyone else recommend some great local establishments, which don't leave you feeling crushed or devalued? It's an attribute which is becoming icnresingly rare these days, I find.
  2. Why is it that every fake recommendation is so obvious? Even if this poster hadn't posted the other messasge... even if he/she wasn't a new user... it's just so *obvious* from the tone and format of the post. Slag off one or two popular establishments. Mention that you then went to another place, which you wouldn't have normally tried. Throw in some irrelevant details which you "read somewhere". Finish with implausible, over-the-top, glowing review of products and service.
  3. This is even worse than the Osbourne Stewart plug, if anyone else remembers that...
  4. You shouldn't be so quick to judge. Perhaps the woman was a volunteer at the shop, or a charity worker. There was a time I'd been for a few drinks round Hammersmith, and one of the guys we were drinking with worked for Oxfam. He stopped outside an Oxfam shop for a minute to see if anyone had left anything stealable, so he could take it home with him and keep it safe. At which point, five blokes came storming over threatening to give him a kicking.
  5. Detroit Rock City - KISS
  6. Agreed, I'm pretty sure they increase the fine during the appeal process. Obviously they don't want people to appeal. If you have a genuine case, then take it all the way, and you won't have to pay.
  7. "I'll get you next time, Gadget".
  8. Time - Supergrass
  9. Hey James, you don't like traditional pubs, we understand that! But you know... not everyone has the same tastes.
  10. Hi Gerald, going from the info in this thread, that's definitely not what's going to happen here.
  11. The self service tills are slower, for sure. But if you've only got a few items, and there are queues at the staffed checkouts, then it's a good option. And you can fit more in the same space.
  12. Seen Olivia Colman (peepshow) in Peckham and ED a couple of times.
  13. If you were legally parked, you will be fine. Quids is right, these guys try it on all the time. As we all know, they're on commission, so it's not surprising that they hand out tickets even when they're not certain it's legitimate. Don't pay the fine, follow the "representation" procedure. Write a letter, including any evidence you have. If the council are stubborn, they will reject your first representation. If this happens, take it all the way to the personal hearing - chances are that the council will give up at this stage and you will automatically win. Keep at it... it's a very long process, and don't be put off by their attempts to raise the fine over time.
  14. Just for the record, I'm not a "union-basher" either. But it's hard to win public support when they strike for dubious reasons.
  15. James, I think you're wrong. I know I've not always been all-out supportive of this place, but the building itself is nice - certainly not an eyesore. And I'm sure a lick of paint will make a big difference. You're not the only one who wouldn't necessarily choose to socialise with some of the regulars, but at the end of the day there's obviously a market for a traditional pub - these guys are locals too!
  16. skidmarks, that's exactly how I feel about it too.
  17. They are all scum. ALL of them.

  19. Snorky... what a load of drivel. Tube drives get paid fairly well, for a relatively unskilled job. Users of London's public transport pay for a service, usually in advance. I think they have a right to question why they're not getting what they've pay for, without being accused of "daily mail lite" views. Tube drivers are no more noble than the rest of us, they're just getting paid to do a job.
  20. I don't have a huge problem with political parties getting their manifesto across by mailshot - even when I strongly disagree with their views. The problem with the BNP is that their slick marketing is designed to appeal to vulnerable and disenchanted victims of circumstance. And there is a veneer of respectability, which hides the nasty, vile core values of the party.
  21. I do agree, Mike P... but I think it's got a bit better recently...
  22. Now I'm confused.
  23. Yes I am. I'm not particularly innocent, but those films made me blush, I can tell you. Who was SimonM talking about then?

Is "casula" a typo, or some sort of preppy fashion keyword?
