  1. Yes but as I said, it would need to be set back quite a way from the junction, otherwise it would be dangerous.
  2. Snorky that one's easy... force them to eat their own knobs.
  3. I'm not sure how it would work. A crossing right on the junction would be dangerous because drivers turning left into ED Grove from Lordship Lane wouldn't see it until they'd already made the turn. I am not sure how traffic lights would work either - Lordship Lane is not wide enough to have multiple lanes, so ALL the traffic would have to be stopped to guarantee safety along that section. Unfortunately that would be unworkable. I would suggest setting the crossing back 15 metres along ED Grove, but perhaps people wouldn't bother walking that far?
  4. As I said before... patriotism needn't imply nationalism or xenophobia. Many other countries seem to be able to separate the two concepts.

Like a cross between "Minority Report" and "Clockwork Orange"? I think this one is just a little too far fetched, even as a hypothetical question!
  6. How about a music tent too?
  7. I'd never fly/display a flag, I am not particularly patriotic personally. However, it is rather a shame that people can't display a symbol of patriotism without others assuming that they're also a nationalist.
  8. David, I do agree with the general nature of what you're saying, but in this particular example, do you really think rehabilitation is relevant? Can these guys ever be law-abiding members of society? Can there ever be a case for letting someone like this out of prison? I wouldn't like to think they could ever live next door to me - even after psychological help, passing GCSEs, learning a trade, or getting off drugs.

There is no excuse - NONE > - for anyone voting for BNP. Ahh... but traditionally core Labour voters don't necessarily subscribe to a left wing ideology. Many traditional Labour voters would have been working class (for want of a better term) people who wanted to make sure that their interests were being looked after... which isn't really the same thing. The BNP target vulnerable/disenchanted people who feel that their interests are no longer being represented by Labour. They convince them that British people are being forced out of jobs because of immigration. "Don't worry, we're not racist, we just want to look after British people like you". Unfortunately it's a message which seems to resonate in certain sections of society. Nick Griffin's latest angle makes me especially sick... "we're not racist, it's all those foreigners who come to our country who are the racist ones".
  10. Not sure how much it costs... but the monthly rail-only ticket is "East Dulwich to London Terminals", so by making one change you can also get to Victoria, Charing Cross, Blackfriars, etc. So getting one of those, plus pay-as-you-go Oyster for tube and bus could be a good option.
  11. Atila Reincarnate... with a smile on your face? It would actually make you happy? Are you a lunatic? We can prevent people re-offending by locking them up for the rest of their life. The death penalty is revenge. There is no place for bloodthirsty revenge in civilised society. Nothing to do with political correctness.
  12. Must have been awful, I hope you are feeling OK now. It doesn't sound like your average burglary... a fairly large group of people, making noise, trying to kick down a door, drawing attention to themselves. Possibly that's what matthew123 meant?
  13. The "waste of effort and money" is a red herring... for the tiny proportion of crimes which would warrant a death sentence (e.g. in the U.S.) I don't think it's going to make any difference at all to the costs of the prison system. Some people are assuming that the parents would like to see the murderers killed... maybe they do, who knows... but you shouldn't assume others share your values. Not everybody is driven by revenge.
  14. A couple of years ago it would have been a great idea. Now there are three others.
  15. I don't understand the "what about the rights of the family" argument. What rights are you talking about in particular? And how will the execution of criminals fulfill those rights?
  16. I would like somewhere where I could purchase a piece of chicken, fried in a batter coating. Perhaps to be served with a portion of fried potato pieces.
  17. I agree that our penal system is not hard enough on the worst offenders, and that we often fail to keep innocent people safe from dangerous criminals. But I can't believe that people are seriously advocating the death penalty.
  18. I was thinking the same thing... mental illness and/or drugs. Although I would stop short of the above sympathetic angle, it is becoming clear that this could and should have been avoided.
  19. Just kidding Scott! I quite like your pubs, I think you have a decent formula going. (I am a software developer... not very interesting, but there you go).
  20. Scott Firth is good with doors/locks/doorframes (username Firth on this forum). 07973 846 610 Sorry to hear about your break-in.
  21. Snorky? That you?
  22. Either you are a woman who wants some men's shoes, or you are a man who chas ruled out high heels because you can't run in them. Nothing wrong with that though - why should our gender dictate our choice in footwear, dammit!!
  23. There's not a lot of room for a mini roundabout... maybe if they used some of the corner where the flats are? Yep, the estate is looking so much better, should look nice when it's all finished. I always said that the buildings are OK, they just need maintaining properly.
  24. Nothing wrong with writing a few amateur restaurant reviews. They are what they are, readers are free to ignore it if they feel the author isn't qualified!
