  1. Siduhe - just you wait until you try to get onto the eastbound jubilee line at Canada Water. It's already a nightmare, unless you get in very early.
  2. Bromley? 3rd Wealthiest postcode? Care to share your sources with us?
  3. Can't access flickr from the office... is it a triple-necked axe?
  4. I'm more inclined to agree with Pierre... there is a history of these things happening round there. Yes in theory of course it *could* happen anywhere, but clearly there are some areas where it's more likely to happen than others.

    Hello

Like Moos, I also immediately thought of the chocolate bar. I like bounty bars... is it socially acceptable for men to enjoy a bounty bar, or should one stick to Snickers or Yorkie?
  6. I dunno, there are several large swathes of suburban north London which are pretty nice, as well as the more fashionable inner London postcodes. South London arguably doesn't really have either.
  7. Asset Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It must be awful after Hackney Isn't Hackney supposed to be "desirable" these days? Despite having some nasty bits, I'd say on the whole it's probably more expensive than East Dulwich. ????, I certainly don't consider SE22 to be Nirvana either. I think it just seems odd that someone would join this forum seemingly looking to alienate people, or have a go at them. In the case of honk... he/she is obviously just stirring to try and provoke a reaction, once you realise this it becomes kind of amusing. Almost.
  8. The only reason she lives in Nunhead is because she's staying at her sister's place. She can pay her a low rent, while claiming expenses for her family home in Redditch. It's not so difficult to find crime figures for various areas in London... Peckham definitely does have more than it's fair share of crimes, not sure about Nunhead though.
  9. I'm not saying you have to do #1, I'm just saying what the options are. #2... maybe, but I'd be surprised. There is no one single organisation who could implement such reforms. Sorry... it will never happen.
  10. OK, so banning bonuses in banking. You would have two choices... 1- ramp up salaries to incorporate the current bonus 2- keep salaries as they are, and effectively lose London's banking industry (and therefore a huge chunk of GDP) to other countries.
  11. "desire to do that job" - are you serious? People don't work in finance for fun.
  12. SMG... I'm not saying that everyone at RBS should get huge bonuses. I'm just saying that realistically, it is necessary to pay a bonus to the best people to get them to stay. Caps on bonuses is certainly one suggestion... not sure how it could be rolled out across the industry though, given that people in different roles get paid very different ratios of basic vs bonus.
  13. I would stop short of a shooting, but it does seem an awful shame... to leave the tools of rock in the cupboard, unwanted... collecting dust... or being (ab)used as makeshift coffee tables.
  14. I do pretty much agree with you, SMG... but banks wouldn't give bonuses if they thought they could get away with it, would they? If they thought they could retain the best staff without paying bonuses, then they wouldn't be doing it. And in the case of RBS, it's now mainly owned by the government... so personally I want the company to get back on it's feet. And if paying a bonus to *some* staff is a necessary step, then I support it. Although of course I understand why some people are uncomfortable with it.
  15. Moos is right, there's not much they can do. They have to pay bonuses to at least the best staff, otherwise they will all leave as soon as things start to pick up.
  16. One of my amps is a Laney... one of the all-valve heads. GL50, I think? The distortion is great, but frankly the top-end is too harsh for more refined use. You could consider a 1x12 cab to connect to the head (I have a little Mesa 1x12 for home use). Or something like a Marshall valvestate (not the current one which all the stupid built in effects, the old one... it was the standard issue 1x12 combo in the 90s). I bought the pod because I can carry it on the train, and take to rehearsal rooms (i.e. cheap rehearsal rooms with rubbish gear which is always broken) to plug into whatever is available. Also good for knocking up quick demos and practising with headphones. It's hardly a serious bit of kit, though.
  17. Not good enough, sorry. Wild speculation, at best. You can't blame the government for everything.
  18. I recently bought a POD thingy actually... it's great fun for playing around with, but it's only a substitute for a proper amp if you're deaf.

If you believe the tabloids, it's all going to "fat cat bankers", who got everyone into this mess, etc etc. It would be interesting to hear about the distribution. It would also be interesting to hear what the total RBS bonus pool was last year and the year before, to give this sensationalist story some perspective.
  20. Ask "pierre" about this... http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,15153,15333#msg-15333
  21. Do you know ANYONE who will turn down money which their employer offers to them? Would you *volunteer* to take a pay cut if your company was losing money (or if other companies in the industry were losing money)?
  22. I actually agree with the honk, more or less. If there wasn't demand for it, I doubt it would be opening up. The existing bookies seem to do a reasonable trade (there always seems to be people in them), and I don't think that the local "demographic" is as clear-cut as some people think. And at least it will presumably provide a little bit of local employment.
  23. Can I clarify... was the man asked to put his hood down, or was he asked to remove said garment altogether?
  24. Do you know if that's the strange looking one with the huge extension at the side?
  25. OK, hence my get-out clause of "I've not checked to see what's being offered". I admit I know relatively little about the consumer industry, spread-betting, etc. However, options do not require a margin... and even if nobody was issuing new contracts, surely there are exchange-traded options out there for RBS and other banks?
