  1. My geek points... -I am a software developer (good start) -I like real-time-strategy games -I have different computers for different purposes -I like soldering things -I own several guitars, amps, synths, etc -I get very annoyed when people don't play guitar through a proper valve amp (or even worse, if they have a valve amp but use a cheap distortion pedal or effects box in front of it... you know who you are) -I get even more annoyed when songs end on the "wrong" chord -I spend as little money as possible on clothes and haircuts -I don't watch sports (as a general rule)

I think examples like this give a skewed perspective. There's no way a terraced house (3 bed!!) was ever genuinely worth 725k on Crystal Palace Road, no matter what worktops it has in the kitchen. The developer was obviously just trying their luck, hoping someone with more money than sense would come along and "fall in love with it".

  4. Where's your evidence that funds have been diverted from Nunhead into East Dulwich?

Oh no, I know it was meant in an unpleasant way. I meant that I'm starting to find honk's obnoxiousness quite entertaining.
  7. Very true... I am happy to agree to disagree...
  8. Bittersweet Symphony was a rubbish song... the only good bit in it was the sample they nicked. I remember Coldplay teaming up with Richard Ashcroft to play that song at Live 8 (I think). The horror.

  10. Yep, it's been in the news for months. Joe Satriani or Coldplay... not sure which is worse.
  11. Do they actually have proper sausagemeat in them, or is it Greggs-style pink mush?
  12. Sorry I didn't turn up to this one. But the name of the pub is completely racist, I couldn't possibly give them my custom.
  13. Oooh, Same Old Song by the Four Tops. OK, so the lyrics consist of typical miserable break-up stuff, but the song itself is floor-filling, foot-stomping soul at it's best.

I could tolerate him at first, but then when he started doing ballads... oh my gosh. When I first heard "dry your eyes" I thought it was some sort of piss-take. Dull, predictable pop masquerading as underground. Stupid fake cockney brummy with a pitbull. Piss off please.
  15. I Want You by Elvis Costello is a great choice, to put you in that stalker/murderer frame of mind. Also, Song For The Dumped by Ben Folds Five... "Give me my money back, give me my money back, you bitch". And She Loves Me by The Descendents, the way it goes from the happy feeling you get when you meet someone you like, through to the pissed off angry feeling which inevitably follows.
  16. 999 is for emergencies only. The correct thing to do would be to phone the local police station, or the standard non-emergency number: 0300 123 1212. But even then, unless the lady is acting in a threatening way, I'd be surprised if the police acted on it. Not sure it's a case of "can't be arsed", more like a lack of resources, abundance of paperwork, and higher-priority crimes.
  17. On my car radio (and alarm clock), my presets are generally xfm, virgin/absolute, bbc london, radio 2, radio 1, smooth... in pretty much that order. Basically, anything except Captial or Kiss!
  18. honk, you're beginning to stray out of character. Concentrate, please!
  19. matthew123, I'm pretty sure you've misunderstood it... 42k is not the entire budget for fighting violent crime in ED, it seems to be a one-off grant as far as I can tell. But you're right, it's a drop in the ocean. As for honk - any excuse to play the race card, methinks. I don't think anyone said "If you don't like our ways, get out", it's just that most people wouldn't bother sticking around in a place which made them want to kill everyone in the entire world. But then again, he obviously just logs on to stir shit, so let him get on with it. It's quite entertaining in some ways.

  21. Ahem... The Clash

  23. Exactly... we don't know the facts. But it certainly doesn't sound like a lot of money to me. Totally agree that more money should be spent where the need is greater. But just because SE22 is possibly a safer-than-average area, doesn't mean no money should be spent at all.
  24. Just because money is being spent on ED, it doesn't mean that more money isn't being spent elsewhere. Honk, do you think ?42k is a lot of money? Really?
