  2. If the other passengers offered to pay, I really can't see why the driver wouldn't let her on. I don't have so much sympathy in CWALD's example though. The rest of us have to pay to use buses, I don't think drivers should let people on just because they don't have the fare. Sorry... just my opinion.

  4. Apologies Ms samstopit!
  5. benmorg... I am of course guessing, but considering it's on an 'A' road with not-quite-so-smart properties surrounding it, maybe 650k or so, if it was in a good state? I'm not denying that it was a good buy... but lots of people have got good deals at auction on run down properties over the years. I don't think we can take places like this as indicitive of the market.
  6. I've also dialled 999 following a mugging - actually on a station platform. The regular coppers turned up and arrested the lads, the British Transport Police then took over the case and were responsible for taking statements and prosecution. This was also a few years ago (maybe 1995). I understand samstopit's frustration, but I do not support his view that there's no point calling the police.
  7. Peckhamgatecrasher - of course, you'll find my rates are very reasonable!
  8. I don't think that purchase price is as amazing as you're making out. For a start, that place would *never* have reached 750k - it's on a main road, and not a particularly smart road at that. It sold at auction, where prices are always significantly lower than regular purchase prices. And bear in mind that developers would expect to take a profit of tens of thousands (maybe 40-50k if they're lucky), after fees. All in all, it's probably roughly in line with the 15% decline that the media have been reporting.
  9. Go on then Sean, I'll bite... just wait in the comfort of your own hallway, you'll soon get your very own display courtesy of the local youths.
  10. I don't see why you'd need extra, as long as you don't muck up when you're cutting the edge pieces.

  13. I wanna be adored - Stone Roses
  14. Maybe Jason Statham or Danny Dyer - the finest actors in this land.

  17. Melt Feta, Cheddar and milk in a pan. Add flour, butter, drinking chocolate, sugar and grated carrot. Top with cauliflower florets, pieces of bacon, and grated nutmeg (or cinnamon). Cook under a hot hairdryer, or on top of a radiator.
  18. I wasn't working on Monday, and I think for the first time ever, I witnessed mid-week East Dulwich during the day. In defence of Angela, I was quite taken aback by the number of mothers and children. Not saying that in a negative way... I just wasn't expecting quite so many. mattham's post seemed a little judgemental and unnecessary.
  19. I don't get the link... "We Are Family - Sister Sledge" to "Sisters of Mercy - Leonard Cohen"? It doesn't work like that! So I will revert to the previous post. Family Man - Black Flag

I moved here when I was 25 (I think). I've always found it OK, enough pubs and restaurants to keep you happy during the week, and easy to get to Camberwell, Brixton or even Cl****m if you want a wider choice. And not too far from the centre if you want to go out in the West End, Shoreditch, or whatever.
  21. Mmmm, cauliflower cheese... don't see why you couldn't put some crumbled up feta into the cheese sauce as well as the cheddar. Or sprinkle it on top while it's cooking. Veg lasagne also a possibility perhaps?
  22. I dunno, I think times have changed... I don't have juvenile knife crime statistics to hand, but it seems likely that they would support this view.
  23. Ah, that looks familiar. I was considering Dick Symphony, but my girlfriend thought it looked rather flaccid.
  24. Not true, British Transport Police cover all sorts of crimes that take place on public transport and related premises.
