I think that was the case "back in the day", MelbourneGr... it's certainly not the case now! At least if you go for the cheaper models.

In Sainsbury's over the weekend... buy two packs of raspberries, save ?1. Except the older packs had been reduced to 30p. The net result - two free packs of raspberries and 40p off the bill. I wanted to go back and see if I could crash the self-checkout machines with a negative bill. But my girlfriend wouldn't let me.

I think we both agree that the language used in the original post could offend, so not sure why you're arguing with me on that one. Although, describing someone as "Asian" will probably narrow it down to probably 5-10% of the local population. Please don't pretend that it's not PC to use race as a description of physical appearance. Yes I am white, and strangely enough I have no problem in being described as being white.

This is all painfully familiar... a bunch of us on the forum last year came to exactly the same conclusion. I've learned never to use cards at petrol stations... it's unfortuante that people can't be trusted, but that's life. fish - I personally phoned the police about this last year, and they officially don't give a crap.

Again, I find myself frustrated that people are choosing to criticise racist behaviour, by bringing in generalisations of their own. Even if you're joking Ms B, you're undermining your own argument...

pk - if you and others find that definition useful in the context of this discussion, then that's fine... and I apologise for disregarding your contribution.

pk - true, but your definition seems to be referring to non-physical qualities (as obviously physical attributes *are* influenced by race). So not sure how it's particularly relevant. Brendan/mockney/seanmg - I'm not going to argue with you on this one, but I trust we can all agree on the dangers of generalisation.

Fair enough muffintop, you were there and obviously in a better position to judge the meaning behind his words. I just found it interesting to put a different perspective on the discussion, as I think quite a few people do have preference based on race... not sure where the line is between preference and racism... but I guess the consensus is that proclaiming it in an offensive manner is probably on the wrong side of that line! But I do have to point out that stereotyping based on occupation is not at all constructive.
