  1. jumpinjackflash - I called the ED police station a while ago regarding this exact issue, and they simply were not interested. I've always bought petrol with cash since, whenever possible.
  2. Ant - 6k for a one year old Passatt, you'd be lucky! Mark - I'd think twice before buying a motor with 72k miles on the clock, even if it's made by ze germans. david_carnell - Octavia is based in the Golf, not Passat... good choice though *Bob* - I agree that the jap cars are best if you just want hassle free motoring, the comfort and interiors aren't always as good though. And parts cost a bomb. Generally agree that mileage is more important than age. I got a car which was 5 yrs old but only 15k on the clock, 5 yrs later it's never given me a day's trouble.
  3. Apparently you have to be careful cycling in burgess park: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,15153,15196#msg-15196

I'd like to think that politicians could be objective, and act in the interest of the people - rather than taking guidance from morally dubious mythology.
  5. seanmlow, you (or whoever gave the that info) were obviously taken in by the GV15 marking brochure, showing a coffee shop in that space with a starbucks style logo. Wishful thinking on their part!
  6. I think M&S give away end-of-shelf-life stuff to employees. When I was younger my mum worked there for about 2 days, but managed to fill the freezer with enough food to last us weeks.
  7. No idea... surprised it hasn't been taken after all this time, they're probably asking some extortionate rent. It doesn't bode well for the flats above it... who would want to buy a 350k property above an empty shop?
  8. Like peckhamboy said... I've not seen much evidence of falling asking prices round here. However, properties are taking much longer to sell, so I'm guessing that actual sale prices have decreased a bit.
  9. Parking fines are there for a reason, and they need to be high enough to act as a deterrent. Otherwise people will just take a gamble on it. ?60 is a lot of money, but I reckon if you can afford the ?50 to fill up your car with petrol, you can probably afford the ?60 fine and put it down to experience. However, what I cannot stand is the commission based trafic warden system, encouraging predatory behaviour, and unjustifiable tickets being written at every opportunity.
  10. Good news! So I assume they've got their drainage issues sorted now?
  11. If the original poster thinks that Barry Road is gritty... take a deep breath before venturing down Rye Lane!
  12. I know this is a naive question, so forgive me... but if you're thinking of buying a pub, why would you lease from a pubco rather than going it alone and opening a free house? What's the main issue? Is it the diffculty in obtaining planning permission / change of use for the premises? Cost of re-fitting?
  13. I understand that people are defensive about where they come from... but if you don't realise that parts of Peckham, Camberwell, Brixton have a crime problem, you are just kidding yourself.
  14. What sort of race? Running? A "drag" race? A snail race? Egg and spoon?
  15. I looked at a property with Osbourne Stewart a few months ago, and when I showed an interest, they put the asking price up by 20K. I think it's still on the market. Never again.
  16. I agree with SeanMacGabhann, I think Si Mangia is OK, but the food is nothing that special in my opinion. I had a pasta dish too, and found the sauce was rather bland... in fact I prefer my own homemade sauce. Maybe it's just ignorance on my part, but if that is the case, so be it!
  17. As is "bash the bishop".
  18. That could explain where I've been going wrong. Mockney, on the other hand, appears to be the world's leading (and perhaps only) authority.
  19. Why don't you just insist that your kid had the most basic 5 yr old phone, then surely nobody would want to steal it.
  20. What is "Oriwisu Spot"? I just googled it, and every result contained either the word "mockney" or "piers"... or sometimes both.
  21. Alicia, where would you suggest they moved to instead? Or would you be happy as long as it wasn't near *your* home?
  22. The bar still looks open to me, does anyone know when it's closing?
  23. It has a bit of a scout hut jumble sale feel about it if I'm honest. Would love a cake stall... there's nowhere in ED to buy decent cakes. The stall on northcross is OKish but very expensive.
  24. Negotiation is common... if you tell one agent that another has offered you 1.4%, you'll probably be able to get 1.3%. In the summer, some were offering as low as 1% - 1.2%, but I'm not sure if they'd do a deal like that in the current climate.
  25. Seems quite a lot of money, but at the end of the day, I don't have much sympathy... sorry! At the end of the day I'm glad there is a fine for littering the streets.
