  1. I think it's been discussed before... DKH estate is a nice building, most of us don't want to see it go. The metal grilles and multiple satellite dishes don't do it any favours though.
  2. I was thinking of buying a flat on the opposite corner actually... the block put me off, just wondering what's planned for that patch of land!
  3. Anyone know what's being built on the corner of ivanhoe and bromar rd? Or is it just that something has been knocked down? I seem to remember there was a small council block or something on that corner.
  4. Or curry for people who are fed up of the greasy slop served up almost everywhere else on LL.
  5. From a buyers perspective... the agent that showed me round was totally clueless, knew nothing about the area, had never been to any of the properties before, and failed to make appropriate arrangements with the owners/tenants for viewings. He didn't seem to have any concept of what is good/bad value in the area. I wouldn't say that their properties are necessarily over-valued, but they are erratically priced. On the plus side, the agent didn't try the hard sell, was not smary, and did not live up to the "square toed shoes, badly gelled hair, argos jewellery" stereotype. Their website is good (although their ED properties are not advertised on findaproperty). In short, if I was selling right now, I would probably not go through Foxtons.
  6. We already have quite a nice Italian restaurant in ED, on Forest Hill Rd... admittedly it might be a bit of a journey from the Goose Green end of ED though.
  7. Not exactly breaking news, Mr Dodds!
  8. macroban, I don't think there is an "East Dulwich recession"... it was just a bit of an odd little shop with very limited stock. And that parade of shops on ED Road is never very busy, at least not compared with LL/Northcross Rd.
  9. Here we go again with this "one size fits all" mentality. How about healthy men whose route is poorly served by public transport? Or have to travel earlier than the trains run? Or people who have been assaulted on public transport and no longer feel safe? Or who regularly transport large/heavy items?

Nonsense! Why do people always assume that if something fits their lifestyle then it's suitable for everyone?
  11. MitchK, I totally disagree. Replacing ordinary supermarkets with more expensive shops selling luxury goods is not beneficial for the whole community, just some sections of it. And higher property prices are not necessarily "good", at least not for the people who want to make this area their long term home rather than exploit it with short to medium term property investments.
  12. Happened in Richmond the other day... hit my friend on the leg. It didn't break, but can still leave a bit of a bruise. Glad you could see the funny side Barry, but expect you're in the minority!
  13. From my office (Canary Wharf), at first it looked like the fire was coming from the HSBC tower! Was pretty scary for a couple of minutes.
  14. Sugar does look a little down-market to me too... but I was driving through Sheen (significantly posher than ED) last last night and spotted a branch there as well.
  15. How about setting up a sprinkler in your front garden... drench the little blighters!
  16. William Rose isn't overpriced. Still, no excuse for being rude.
  17. Near a tree by a river there's a hole in the ground!
  18. Oh yes... it has shut down... may explain why it wasn't open last time I went by...
  19. and it may be the whiskey talking, but the whiskey says I miss you everyday
  20. Brixtonian - great cocktails, have never been able to figure out the opening hours though. Have found it closed on more than one occasion. Dogstar - often have good music, good atmosphere, a bit skanky (but in a good way) Prince Albert - shadow of its former self Is the Tongue and Groove still there?
  21. More like a brisk 25 mins walk. Still, better than waiting for the abysmal 37.

  23. East Dulwich Angst Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > grace jones - pull up to the bumper [i'm guessing > Grace Jones wasn't all that great live!! listening to > this vid was quite painfull] Haha, that is just awful! I don't think I've ever heard anyone sing quite that badly!
  24. Landcroft Road is fine. I don't think either end of the road is more or less pleasant than the other... although of course the bottom end would be considered more desirable because of proximity to the station and the main area of pubs/restaurants/etc.
  25. They only use the special paint disposal for cans which are over half full. Other cans end up in the landfill with the rest of the rubbish.
