  1. It is a Mitchells and Butler pub, so I guess it's technically part of a chain. M&B also own the "Goose And..." chain, so the big reopening was really just a rebranding. I think they also own All Bar One, O Neills, Hollywood Bowl, and probably others too.
  2. Someone once brought some alcohol-free beer to a barbecue. We ran out of the alcoholic variety, so I tried mixing it with vodka. It did not taste good.
  3. Supermarket ready-meals have their place and are fine in moderation. I really hate this preachy attitude towards what people should eat and where they should buy it from. Get off your soapboxes!
  4. The only real problem I've ever had round here is when a kid snatched my phone a couple of years ago. I ran after him and gave him a bit of a kicking, only for his mate to turn up and snatch it again! Was too exhausted to chase again. Loads of people saw it, but obviously nobody helped out...
  5. Went to TN last Friday. Curries were very good, your friend must have been unlucky. However, some starters were very poor... but at least the staff were OK about exchanging them.
  6. It doesn't seem to be that busy recently... maybe people are starting to realise that it's wise to check the prices first!
  7. Yep, Cafe Noodle is OK! I've certainly had much worse Chinese food round these parts.
  8. "The East Dulwich Lifestyle"... there's a phrase I thought I'd never hear! I agree with Sean that although the journey into town may not be significantly quicker than from elsewhere, you always have options. If trains break down or go on strike, or you decide to stay in town late, there are plenty of bus routes running at all hours. And it's close enough to central London to make cycling or minicabs realistic (or even driving, if that's your bag).
  9. Interesting logic... when we run out of fossil fuels, we will no longer need IT people, but electricians will be in high demand!
  10. I don't think Frog/Froggy is offensive, French people don't seem to mind. In my experience, they take it in the spirit in which it is intended. Is anyone here offended when the French call us "les rosbif"?
  11. lilolil - really glad your daughter had the sense to run and get help. Let's hope they are caught, they need to learn that they can't get away with these things. They don't need a clip round the ears, they need to be taken to court as juvenile criminals! Cassius - would have to disagree with the assertion that mugging is a purely British phenomenon.

If there's no pub which ticks all your boxes, open one yourself. Because we all have the time and money to do that, don't we?

  14. I agree, I can heartily recommend Osbourne Stewart estage agents, for their friendly yet professional service. They make you feel right at home when you walk through the door!
  15. We're discussing places to live in... the observation that Nunhead is not very nice seems perfectly valid to me!
  16. I assume you missed out a change somewhere between Westminster and Heathrow, fractionater?
  17. Did you go back to Osbourne Stewart just to post again, then? Please go away, you're just making it worse.
  18. Agree that the fairs for cab and Heathrow Express do sting... probably not worth it if you aren't in a hurry.
  19. If it's early in the morning (therefore light traffic) I get a cab to Paddington, then the Heathrow Express. I reckon that's the quickest possible route.
  20. Maurice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ED has promise of more and better too. Really? Southern have actually quoted that they cannot provide more rush hour trains to ED because there is no available space (particularly because of the Gatwick services).
  21. I'm 99% sure that online petitions are a waste of time. Therefore the fact that I "signed" it demonstrates how strongly I feel about this... the public transport sucks already in this corner of London, I can't believe anyone is even considering a reduction in services.
  22. Is this part of the government's latest scheme to get people out of their cars and onto public transport?!
  23. Almost makes me want to use Foxtons (and that's saying something)
  24. Hasn't "Dulwichmum" secured a publishing deal off the back of her blog? Maybe not so pointless after all!
  25. Not everyone needs a car, but there are plenty of people who regularly have to transport large/heavy items, or make regular journeys which would be very inconvenient by public transport. I fall into both of those categories, and that's enough to justify it to myself, anyway!
