  1. Alan, I don't think that many multi-millionaires would choose to live in East Dulwich. It's not *that* affluent (and neither is it "previously impoverished"!)
  2. A lot of these bonuses are going to be a percentage of the profit they've earned for the company. Fair enough, I think.
  3. Complaining is all well and good when it's possible that something will get changed as a result. But it's pretty obvious that Sainsbury's predicament is not by choice.
  4. But what would be the point of complaining? It's not as if they are going anything about it...
  5. The infamous strictteacher returns...
  6. I noticed that the builders have started working on the old barbers too...
  7. Service at the Blue Mountain has usually been diabolical when I've been in there - and it's not cheap. However, it sounds like their prices are pretty good value compared with Chandelier!
  8. Yes, ED doesn't have a tube station... therefore nobody who lives in ED uses the tube to get to/from work! Yes, that makes sense! I don't know what I was getting so worked up about!
  9. MW74 - people say that a bonkers old Lady lives there...
  10. I agree, the new shop front does not look nice. No doubt its inhabitants will be even more unsavoury.
  11. Marmora Man Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Noodle Bar opposite Mrs Robinsons is an early > version of Waggamammas and much cheaper. Not bad > nosh either Not really... wagamama is Japanese(ish)... ramen, katsu, udon, etc. The place you speak of (is it called cafe noodle or something?) is primarily chinese.
  12. It's Friday so where shall I eat So many places to go and people to meet. I fancy a curry
  13. Although we may be treading on dodgy ground... dullwitch would not be the first person to harbour such suspicions.
  14. Erm... *She* walked 'round Dulwich Park Until it was dark
  15. Of course we have all received scam emails before... but I was particularly amused to see this one allegedly from Dulwich Picture Gallery. http://jobscams.blogspot.com/2007/08/job-offer_20.html
  16. Many Chinese restaurants have a separate Chinese menu, it's pretty common. I think it's just because they assume that English people won't be interested in certain dishes. Or perhaps they are the more basic (ie cheap) dishes, and they'd rather sell the more expensive food? However - I've only had Dim Sum in Dragon Castle, but the Chinese and English menus were the same.
  17. As Mockney says, maybe we should give Stella the benefit of the doubt for the time being! For what it's worth, the food at Chopsticks is obviously nothing special, but I think their garden is very pleasant. Had dim sum at Dragon Castle (elephant & castle) yesterday, it was pretty good. Better than most of the places in chinatown, probably better than The Penisular IMO.
  18. Mic is spot on though... replace all the politicians with the less brainy people who know how to kick a ball properly! Legalise hand guns - for it will surely help Britain's gun problem. What a guy!
  19. +ves: great band, Maceo Parker was awesome, not too much talking and showing off, and I like the way Prince played guitar for most of the set (rhythm as well as lead, he was playing as part of the band, not on top of them). And apparently he plays a competely different set every night, so each time you get a unique experience. And he was obviously enjoying himself a hell of a lot! -ves: pre-show video of various celebs proclaiming Prince's genius, poor arena acoustics, short(ish) set, the songs played with just him and his keyboard (would have rather heard them with the full band), too much muzak and perhaps not enough proper songs.
  20. Most of Battersea is just nasty, half of Clapham is horrid too... what is it with people who live in these places? Why do they have these illusions of grandeur?
  21. Just been given tickets for tonight's gig... corporate suite. Nice!
  22. Stockwell, Clapham... both minging for the most part.
  23. But it's not the same thing... Hoopers is on the border, it's just a 5 minute walk to ED station. Sun and Doves is on the other side of Camberwell.
  24. When they were found out
  25. I'm in two minds about this one. The Ivanhoe is a just short trot from the centre of ED (goose green/LL), while it's quite a bit further from the centre of camberwell (camberwell green). Therefore it makes more sense for them to tap into the ED market than the cambwerwell market. Alan's right though, it is actually Camberwell. Some would argue that labelling themselves as "East Dulwich" is a cynical marketing ploy... trying to benefit from the so-called gentrification of Lordship Lane, while denying the roots/origins of the establishment.
